Passengers are to be Alert While Travelling In Train

Passengers are to be Alert While Travelling In Train

Don’t pull Alarm Chains in Train Coaches for trivial reasons, Southern Railway tells Passengers

CHENNAI: The Southern Railway has asked passengers to avoid pulling the alarm chain unless it’s an emergency.

“Pulling the alarm chain without valid and sufficient reason is a punishable offence under Section 141 of the Railways Act, 1989. The penalty will include imprisonment up to one year or a fine of Rs 1,000 or both,” said chief public relations officer S Dhananjeyan.
The instances of alarm chain pulling is on the rise. As many as 744 cases were registered for unauthorised alarm chain pulling in the zone in the first six month of this year. As many as 737 people were apprehended in this connection and a fine of Rs 2.8 lakh has been collected from them.
“It is noticed that on most of the occasions, the alarm chain was pulled by the passengers for trivial reasons like co-passenger could not board/alight, mobile phone/belongings fallen down or missing, passenger who got down to purchase water/eatables could not board the train, passenger overslept and missed destination, to mention a few. The train in which alarm chain was pulled has to be detained for a considerable time for resolving the system. Moreover, the delay in train operations in which alarm chain was pulled affects the running of the subsequent train services too . The passengers on-board these trains are hassled,” Dhananjeyan said.
Passengers should refrain from pulling the alarm chain. On-board railway staff like train captain, TTEs, RPF train escorts, coach attendants and others can be approached by passengers for addressing issues that arise on the course of journey, Dhananjeyan said.
The services of All India RPF Security Helpline 182 which is functional round the clock can be resorted to. The 182 Helpline crew will alert the field RPF personnel and assistance will be arranged at the subsequent station.
GRP Helpline 1512 can also be accessed for security related assistance. Rail passenger helpline 138 will also render assistance to passengers for redressal of grievances pertaining to on-board amenities.
The Railway Protection Force is keeping close watch on violators and will take stringent action against people pulling the alarm chain without justifiable reason.

4 Railways Officials Suspended After UP Train Accident: 10 Points

4 Railways Officials Suspended After UP Train Accident: 10 Points

The Puri-Haridwar Utkal Express derailed in Khatauli in Uttar Pradesh's Muzaffarnagar district on Saturday, killing 20 and injuring over 90 people.
KHATAULI, UTTAR PRADESH:  Four railway officials have been suspended over the train accident on Saturday that left over 22 dead and injured over 200 in Uttar Pradesh's Muzaffarnagar district. Three others have been transferred and one has been sent on leave. Thirteen coaches of the Puri-Haridwar Utkal Express ran off the tracks around 5:45 pm in Khatauli, about 100 km from New Delhi. The move came on a day that Railways Minister Suresh Prabhu assured prompt action over the accident that appeared to have been caused due to negligence.

1.Railways has taken action against eight officials over the accident. While a Senior Divisional Engineer, Assistant Engineer, Senior Section Engineer and a Junior Engineer have been suspended, the Chief Track Engineer of the Northern Railway has been transferred. Member (Engineering) in the Railway Board, Northern Railway General Manager and Divisional Regional Manager (Delhi) have been sent on leave, the Railways said.
2.Over 22 people have been killed so far, Anand Kumar, a senior police officer in UP told news agency ANI. The officer also ruled out any terror angle in the accident. "Prima facie and on the basis of inquiry done so far by ATS (anti-terror squad), there is no evidence of any terror outfit involved in the accident," he said.
3.An audio clip of an unverified telephonic conversation, apparently between two railway employees, that hints at "negligence" as cause of the accident will also be probed, he added.
4.Sources in the engineering division of the Railways claim that they had warned the Khatauli station authorities of repair work being carried out on the tracks. They also claim that they had asked for movement of trains to not be allowed on the stretch for 20 minutes till the tracks were restored.
5."We had no knowledge of technical problems," Rajinder Singh, Station Superintendent, Khatauli told NDTV yesterday, saying they were unaware of maintenance work being carried out on the tracks.
6.Locals claim human error may have led to the tragedy. Jagat Ram, one of the residents of the house that was damaged when the train crashed into it, had earlier told NDTV that parts of the rail track in the area were being repaired for two days before the day when the accident happened. Locals suspect that the driver of the Utkal Express was not informed about the repair work.
7.A first information report (FIR) has been filed for causing death by negligence, mischief, and destruction of railway property.
8.The train had left Puri in Odisha on Friday evening and was scheduled to arrive in Haridwar in Uttarakhand on Sunday. "It was running at a speed of about 100 kmph when the accident took place," a top Railways official RN Singh said. Six of the derailed coaches were damaged severely.
9.Rescuers from the National Disaster Response Force or NDRF and various divisions of the police worked with gas cutters and cranes to find survivors from the badly-mangled coaches. Rescue operations ended in the early hours on Sunday.
10.The Railways has announced a compensation of Rs. 3.5 lakh for the family of those killed, Rs. 50,000 for those seriously injured and Rs. 25,000 for people with minor injuries. State governments of Odisha and Uttar Pradesh have also announced compensation for the victims.

11 coaches of Mumbai-Lucknow train derail in UP's Unnao, no casualties

11 coaches of Mumbai-Lucknow train derail in UP's Unnao, no casualties
Unnao (UP): Eleven coaches of the Mumbai-Lucknow Lokmanya Tilak Express derailed in Unnao on Sunday, but there was no report of any casualty in the mishap, which was the sixth incident in Uttar Pradesh in seven months.
Superintendent of Police, Unnao, Neha Pandey said that at around 2 PM, 11 coaches of the Lucknow-bound Lokmanya Tilak Express from Mumbai derailed when the train was crossing platform number 3 of Unnao railway station, about 20 km from Kanpur.
According to sources, of the 11 coaches, nine were air conditioned ones.
Since the speed of the train was slow, a major tragedy was averted and all passengers are safe, she said, adding some of them, however, sustained minor injuries when they jostled to rush out of the train following derailment.
Provision of first aid, water and food was made immediately for the shocked passengers.
Alternative arrangements were also made to send the stranded passengers by buses to Lucknow, Pandey said.
The derailment led to delay in the movement of certain trains on the Lucknow-Kanpur section as a portion of the track was damaged.
Senior officials of the Railway and district authorities rushed to the spot. A team of UP Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) also reached the accident site to conducted preliminary investigation if there was any terror angle behind the derailment.
SDM Sadar of Unnao Megha Roopam said a dog squad was already at the spot to detect any foul play.
Chairman of Railway Board has been asked by the Railway ministry to initiate action against the guilty.
In a tweet, the Ministry of Railways said, "#Unnao derailment SEC Kanpur-Lucknow Train22121 (LTT-LKO), No injury to any passenger: MR@sureshpprabhu directed CRB to take strict action.
"#Unnao Train Derailment Train-22121 At Unnao stn Near gate No 34, No injury to any passengers. "#Unnao Train Derailment Train-22121 At Unnao stn, No injury to any passengers: GM/NR & DRM /LKO rushed to the Accident site."
PRO, North-Central Railway Amit Malviya, said three helpline numbers have been started at Kanpur Railway station.
These are 0512-2323015, 0512-2323016 and 0512-2323017. The Lucknow helpline numbers are 9794830973, 9794830975 and 0522-2237677.
Unnao Station Master Vishram Singh said General Manager of Northern Railway is reaching the accident site.
On April 15, at least two persons were reportedly injured when eight coaches of Lucknow-bound Rajya Rani Express derailed in Uttar Pradesh.
The train, which started from Meerut, derailed between Mundapandey and Rampur railway stations.
On February 20, 2017, three coaches and the engine of Kalindi Express derailed after colliding with a goods train at the Tundla Junction in Uttar Pradesh.
The train which runs between Kanpur Central and Bhiwani (Haryana) was reportedly slow while entering the station thereby causing no injuries.
The two trains an express train and a freight train  were running on the same track and thus the express train rammed into the freight one from the back.
On March 30, 2017, at least 12 persons were injured after eight coaches of the Jabalpur-Nizamuddin Mahakaushal Express derailed near Kulpahar railway station in Mahoba.
Preliminary investigation suggested a weld failure in the rail, which led to the accident.
The driver of the train told the railway officers that he felt a violent jerk when the train was running at 103 kmph.
In one of the worst train mishaps in recent months, 150 people lost their lives in a major train accident at Pukhrayan near Kanpur in November last year.
