Covid Care Coaches as Isolation Units are now functional in 17 diverse locations in 7 states spread over the country
-Over the week, through timely and co-ordinated efforts Railways swiftly mobilised Isolation Coaches to places of demand
-Teams endeavour to meet quarantine protocols for mild cases of Covid with well-equipped medical facilities
-A total of 298 Isolation Coaches with nearly 4700 bed capacity in use now
In the relentless fight against Covid19, Railway officials and teams continue their momentum to reach-out to State Health Authorities and Administrations through timely and co-ordinated action. Through focused monitoring and detailed work-flow protocols, the Railway were able to move Isolation Coaches to diverse parts of the country as per States’ demand. The Isolation Coaches which are stationed on platforms have been duly barricaded, make-shifts tents provided and every endeavour is being taken for facilitation of the medical personnel on duty here. Where permanent facilities for don-doff of PPE kits were not available, the Railways have endeavoured to provide separate temporary units in dedicated coaches for men and women healthcare personnel. RPF Staff are posted at these health care facilities round the clock. The Railway has also made provision of 2 oxygen cylinders and fire extinguishers in each coach to meet emergencies. Among other things, the Railways have also enabled directional guidance, ramp facility for patient transport at these coaches.
The Isolation Coaches are now deployed at 17 stations in 7 states of the country and catering to Covid Care patients. At present, 298 coaches have been handed over to various states for covid care with a bed-capacity of more than 4700 beds. The Coach deployment to the 7 states is as under:
In all, the Railways have deployed 60 coaches in the State of Maharashtra. At Nandrubar, the health facility has witnessed a steady registration of Covid patients and subsequent discharge through due medical certification after the isolation period. Cumulatively upto now, 116 admissions were registered with 93 subsequent discharge of patients by State Health Authorities. 23 patients are utilising the facility here now. The Railway has also positioned 11 Covid Care Coaches (with one coach serving exclusively for medical personnel and supplies) at Ajni Inland Container Depot and handed over to Nagpur Municipal Corporation. 9 patients were admitted here and all discharged post-isolation. At Palghar, where the Railways recently provided 24 coaches, the facility is now functional.
The Railways have deployed 42 coaches in the State of Madhya Pradesh. The Ratlam Division of Western Railway has deployed 22 Coaches with a capacity of 320 beds at Tihi Station near Indore. 21 patients are admitted here so far while 7 patients were discharged. At Bhopal, where 20 coaches are deployed. At this facility, there were 29 admissions with 11 patients discharged as per latest data. As on date 18 patients are utilising this facility. 302 beds are available at this facility.
In the latest update, with latest demands from the State of Assam, Railway has swiftly moved 21 isolation coaches to Guwahati and 20 Isolation Coaches to Badarpur near Silchar (N. F. Railway). Earlier in the week, Isolation Coaches were deployed at Sabarmati, Chandlodiya and Dimapur respectively.
In Delhi, the Railway has catered to the full demand of State Governments’ demand for 75 Covid Care coaches with a capacity of 1200 beds. 50 coaches are positioned at Shakurbasti and 25 Coaches at Anand Vihar Stations. 5 admissions were registered with all discharged. A total of 1200 beds are available here.
In UP, though coaches have not yet been requisitioned by State Govt, 10 coaches each are placed at Faizabad, Bhadohi, Varanasi, Bareli & Nazibabad totalling to a capacity of 800 beds (50 coaches).
The Railways has made available a fleet of more than 4400 Isolation Coaches with around 70,000 beds to serve as Isolation Units.

Revised Timings of Extended Festival Special trains
Railways have decided to revise the timings of following extended festival special trains. The details as under:
1. Pune -Darbhanga Festival Specials (Weekly)
- 01033 special will now leave Pune at 16.15 hrs on every Wednesday from 02.12.2020 to 30.12.2020 (5 trips) and arrive Darbhanga at 06.40 hrs on third day.
- 01034 special will now leave Darbhanga at 16.47 hrs on every Friday from 04.12.2020 to 01.01.2021 (5 trips) and arrive Pune at 07.20 hrs on third day.
2. Pune –Gorakhpur Specials (Weekly)
- 01115 special will now leave Pune at 16.15 hrs on every Thursday from 03.12.2020 to 31.12.2020 (5 trips) and arrive Gorakhpur at 00.55 hrs on third day.
- 01116 special will now leave Gorakhpur at 16.05 hrs on every Saturday from 05.12.2020 to 02.01.2021 (5 trips) and arrive Pune at 02.45 hrs on third day
3. Lokmanya Tilak Terminus –Gorakhpur Specials (Weekly)
- 01079 special will now leave Lokmanya Tilak Terminus at 15.50 hrs on every Thursday from 03.12.2020 to 31.12.2020 (5 trips) and arrive Gorakhpur at 00.20 hrs on third day.
- 01080 special will now leave Gorakhpur at 05.30 hrs on every Saturday from 05.12.2020 to 02.01.2021 (5 trips) and arrive Lokmanya Tilak Terminus at 15.10 hrs next day.
4. Pune – Lucknow Junction Specials (Weekly)
- 01407 special will now leave Pune at 22.00 hrs on every Tuesday from 08.12.2020 to 29.12.2020 (4 trips) and arrive Lucknow Jn. at 02.40 hrs on third day.
- 01408 special will now leave Lucknow Jn. at 06.30 hrs on every Thursday from 10.12.2020 to 31.12.2020 (4 trips) and arrive Pune at 10.50 hrs next day
5. Lokmanya Tilak Terminus – Howrah Superfast Specials (Bi-Weekly)
- 02101 Superfast special will now leave Lokmanya Tilak Terminus at 20.35 hrs on every Friday and Tuesday from 04.12.2020 to 29.12.2020 (8 trips) and arrive Howrah at 03.15 hrs on third day.
- 02102 Superfast special will now leave Howrah at 21.15 hrs on every Sunday and Thursday from 03.12.2020 to 31.12.2021 (9 trips) and arrive Lokmanya Tilak Terminus at 03.55 hrs on third day.
6. Pune – Manduadih Superfast Specials (Weekly)
- 02135 Superfast special will now leave Pune at 16.15 hrs on every Monday from 07.12.2020 to 28.12.2020 (4 trips) and arrive Manduadih at 20.10 hrs next day.
- 02136 Superfast special will now leave Manduadih at 04.00 hrs on every Wednesday from 09.12.2020 to 30.12.2020 (4 trips) and arrive Pune at 07.20 hrs next day

Validity of Suburban Season tickets which have expired due to lockdown will be extended to the extent of days lost. Advance revalidation facilities will commence from 8 a. m. of 9.11.2020 for expired Season tickets at the concerned stations. Passengers are requested to please contact the concerned booking counters of the stations for Revalidation of the Season tickets. It is also requested to revalidate Suburban Season tickets before availing local train services.
Normal journey tickets will be available at booking counters from the day of commencement of Suburban EMU train services over Eastern Railway i.e. from 11.11.2020. Tickets will be available for travelling within Suburban section and Krishnanagar-Lalgola section only.
Passengers are requested to please maintain physical distancing, avoid gathering, wear mask/face cover while in trains or at Railway stations and to follow the COVID 19 health and hygiene protocols.
Eastern Railway appeals to please cooperate towards maintaining Suburban services for the convenience of commuters along with maintaining adequate safety with a view to resist the spread of COVID 19 pandamic.

Plasma Bank at ESIC Medical College and Hospital at Faridabad Inaugurated through Video ConferencePosted On: 08 AUG 2020 5:32PM by PIB DelhiShri Santosh Kumar Gangwar, Minister of State (I/C) for Labour & Employment and Shri Manohar Lal Khattar, Chief Minister of Haryana inaugurated Plasma Bank at ESIC Medical College and Hospital, Faridabad (Haryana) through video conference from Haryana Bhawan, New Delhi late yesterday.During his address, Shri Gangwar informed that the Plasma bank is a very important facility in the context of treating Covid-19 patients.Shri Gangwar further said that in this crisis Covid situation, 21 ESIC Hospitals across India have been converted into Dedicated Covid-19 Hospitals. More than 2400 Isolation beds, 550 ICU/HDU beds with 200 ventilators have also been made available in these Hospitals. Quarantine facility (approx. 1300 Beds) has been made functional in 04 ESIC Hospitals at Alwar (Rajasthan), Bihta, Patna (Bihar), Gulbarga (Karnataka) and Korba (Chhattisgarh). Besides, Covid-19 testing facility has been made available at ESIC Hospital, Faridabad (Haryana), Basaidarapur (New Delhi) and Sanathnagar, Hyderabad. Plasma therapy is also being provided at ESIC Hospitals, Faridabad and Sanathnagar, Hyderabad for the treatment of serious patients of COVID-19. Shri Gangwar commended the efforts being made by ESIC, an organisation under his Ministry, to combat COVID-19 and added ESIC has been working continuously since its inception to provide social security to its insured persons in India. In the last 67 years of journey, today, the services of ESIC have been expanded to about 566 districts out of 722 districts. About 12 crore beneficiaries are receiving ESI facilities.Shri Manohar Lal Khattar, Chief Minister, Haryana informed about the efforts of Haryana Govt. in combating Covid-19 pandemic. He also briefed about the starting of Plasma Therapy in Haryana in 03 different locations, viz. Panchkula, Rohtak and Gurugram. At the end, while concluding his speech, he made an appeal to the COVID recovered patients to come forward and donate their plasmas to save the lives of others.Immunohematology and Blood transfusion Department, ESIC Medical College & Hospital, Faridabad had started Convalescent Plasma therapy under PLACID Trial with permission from Indian Council Of Medical Research on 20th May 2020. First Plasmapheresis was conducted on 2nd June 2020 and more than 25 procedures have been done till date. Accordingly, first Plasma therapy was done on 8th June 2020 and a total of 35 patients have been given transfusions so far.Department of Immunohematology and Blood transfusion, ESIC Medical College Faridabad is fully equipped with all the required equipment and manpower with a storage capacity of 400 units at a time and holds a valid License from Drug Controller General of India for Plasmaphaeresis. This Hospital is well equipped to conduct 30 plasmapheresis procedures per day, with 3 Dedicated Apheresis machines already working round the clock in the facility. The Convalescent Plasma is important in view of increase in number of COVID cases.ESIC Medical College Faridabad is a dedicated 540 bedded COVID Hospital with ICU Beds for the treatment of Covid-19 patients of Haryana. Besides, Covid-19 testing facility has also been made available at ESIC Hospital, Faridabad (Haryana). The medical college is equipped with latest equipments, air conditioned classrooms, labs, etc.The hospital associated with this medical college is centrally air conditioned with inpatient and outpatient departments and provides treatment facilities through various departments. This hospital is equipped with facilities such as OPD, IPD, Wards, Emergency, Diagnostic Services, Operation Theatres, ICU, CT Scan, MRI and many more for the Insured Persons and their dependents. This Hospital is exclusively run for the benefit of insured persons and their family members covered under ESI Scheme.Shri Heera Lal Samariya, Secretary, Labour and Employment, Ms. Anuradha Prasad, irector General, ESIC and officers of MoLE, ESIC & Govt. of Haryana also graced the occasion.

Health Assistant Robot “Rakshak” handed over to Railway Hospital at Byculla
In their fight against the spread of coronavirus, Central Railway Mumbai Division, EMU Car Shed, Kurla has made a health assistant robot, “Rakshak” fully inhouse and handed over to Bharat Ratna Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar Memorial Hospital, Byculla. Shri Shalab Goel, Divisional Railway Manager, Mumbai Division handed over this robot to Dr. Meera Arora, Chief Medical Director of the Hospital at Byculla at Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus on 28.7.2020. Shri Sunil Bairwa, Senior Divisional Electrical Engineer, Kurla and his dedicated team have designed and made this in house.
This medical assistance robot is ergonomically designed to achieve interaction between doctor and patient remotely. It can measure health parameters like temperature, pulse, oxygen percentage and dispenses sanitiser automatic, infrared sensor. ‘Rakshak’ can deliver medicine/food to patients and has a 2-way video communication between doctor and patient. It can move in all directions on a level surface with a range of remote operation upto 150 meters.
With a fully charged battery, it can work 6 hours continuously and carry upto 10 kg wait in its tray. It is based on wi-fi and hence no mobile data is required and operated with android mobile application. The video and snap shots of patients can also be downloaded.
Together we can fight Corona.

Five tips on how to live with novel coronavirus

After seventy days of lockdown, the unlock 1.0 is put into action. Officially designated lockdown 5.0, from June 1, 2020, the economy and ordinary life are returning to normalcy in a controlled and phased manner. This is the beginning of a new normal. It is going to be a long haul. Experts and officials are suggesting that ‘we must learn to live with the virus’. With vaccine still months away, we need to live in a new normal. Speaking to India Science Wire, Prof. K Vijay Raghavan, Principal Scientific Advisor to the Government of India, gave five tips to ‘living with the virus’.
“Either we must change the virus, or we must change ourselves; changing the virus is going to take time,” says Prof. Vijay Raghavan. Research and development of drugs and vaccine are underway, but for them to be available for broader use, after proper clinical trials, is going to take time. Producing the drugs and vaccine for everyone is also time-consuming. Meanwhile, we can change ourselves to face the pandemic.
Here are the five tips from Prof. Raghavan:
1.Wear a mask when you step out of the houses
Recent studies have found that when a person speaks, about 1000 tiny droplets of saliva comes out. If that person happens to be infected with novel coronavirus, then each of these droplets will carry thousands of germs. Large droplets will fall off the ground, usually within one-metre distance. However, the plum of tiny droplets can float in the air for a longer time, mainly if the area is not well ventilated. Many people who are infected by the virus do not show any symptoms. Therefore, they may not even be aware that they are affected. Wearing a mask protects not only us but others as well, if we are infected. “We have prepared a handbook on manufacturing homemade mask, which one can use to make their own face cover,” says Prof. Raghavan.
2. Practise vigilant hand hygiene
An analysis of 75,465 COVID-19 cases in China by a WHO-led study shows that novel coronavirus is primarily transmitted between people through respiratory droplets and contact routes. Thus, the COVID-19 virus can be transmitted when one comes into direct contact with infected people. Or when we touch surfaces in the immediate environment or objects used by the infected person (e.g., door handle and washroom tap). Our normal urge is to reach our face. When we wash our hands thoroughly with soap for at least thirty seconds, the virus, if any, on our hands is destroyed. “There are suggestions that the virus may also be transmitted by faecal and oral routes. Hence it is better to wash the hands and legs,” says Prof. Raghavan.
3. Maintain social distance
Most likely, the infection happens through direct contact or inhaling the droplets shed by an infected person. Droplets in usual conditions travel about a metre from the infected person. Keeping a distance of one metre from one another in markets, offices, and public transport would greatly help. “Young people can get infected without showing symptoms, and they can infect the elderly. Hence, we need to take special care to maintain physical distancing, particularly with the vulnerable like elderly, those who are ill in multiple ways,” says Prof. Raghavan.
4. Test and tracking
“If someone turns out to be COVID-19 positive, then one has to go back in time and identify proximal contacts of that person and identify them. We must test them,” says Prof. Raghavan. Only an infected person can transmit the virus to others or contaminate a surface and spread the virus. If most of the infected persons are identified, then controlling the transmission of the virus becomes easy.
5. Isolation
“The people who have been identified as positive cases should be isolated,” says Prof. Raghavan. Once isolated, the infected person can receive proper medical attention. Further, as they remain isolated, an infected person cannot spread the virus to others. The tentacles of the infection can be cut.
“If one can do this with high speed the last one and follow all the others, then we can have a semblance of a normal life while we wait to do something for drugs and vaccine. If we don’t do any of these things and if we slip up on any one of these, then we will have a problem,” said Prof. Raghavan.
He also pointed out that the conditions are different in India as compared to those in western countries. Physical distancing becomes difficult as many people live in a densely populated area like Dharavi in Mumbai. Further, in India, most households have three generations living together. “This may make the implementation of physical distancing difficult. So, we need to have some innovative solutions to deal with these specific problems,” says Prof. K Vijay Raghavan.
“There are multiple levels of responsibility to decide what to do. Most important of all are communication and putting the message in that communication into action by all of us” Prof K Vijay Raghavan said.
The office of the Principal Scientific Advisor to the Government of India has developed guidelines for hygiene and sanitation in densely populated areas and a manual on homemade protective covers for face and mouth. These are available for free download in many Indian languages in the website http://psa.gov.in/information-related-covid-19.

Metro Railway, Kolkata has been carrying out various maintenance activities during lockdown period arising due to COVID-19 pandemic. During this period, various safety measures like sanitization, disinfection activities are being carried out in the Carshed. Dry and wet cleaning on both outside and inside of rolling stocks are also being carried out for proper disinfection and sanitization maintaining social distancing and other specified safety norms.
The communication system and display boards in each of the six coaches of every rake are being checked and kept in working condition. Cleaning of the escalators and lifts at all Metro stations is also being carried out at 15 days interval and functional testing is being checked at 3 days interval.
Visual inspection of the third rail of the entire section is also being carried out and the battery sets at all the stations are kept in working condition.
Rolling out of rakes is being done inside the carshed premises on alternate days and speed trials on test track are being conducted fortnightly to ensure healthiness of traction system as well as to detect and rectify any abnormalities in any of the equipment.
Apart from this, training of new entrants are also being carried out online by nominated supervisors. All the training formalities regarding basics of electronics, rake maintenance, concept about 3-phase drives etc are being conducted.

In the wake of the lockdown to contain the spread of the deadly Coronavirus, Western Railway's staff from various departments is ensuring to continue to display grit and commitment through their exemplary services. This is so because, Western Railway has always been fully committed to its customers and has continued to ensure supply of essential commodities to different parts of the country. As an unique initiative, WR is running so manytimetabled Parcel special trains during lockdown period. In continuation to this,two more trips of one parcel special train are scheduled to run between Okha and Trivandrum.
According to a press release issued by Shri Ravinder Bhakar - Chief Public Relations Officer of Western Rly, 2 more trips of one parcel special train is scheduled to run between Okha and Trivandrum. Train No 00933 Okha – Trivandrum parcel special train will leave Okha on 14th May, 2020 at 13.10 hrs to reach Trivandrum on 16th May, 2020 at 12.00 hrs. Similarly, Train No 00934 Trivandrum – Okha parcel special train will leave Trivandrum on 16th May, 2020 at 23.00 hrs to reach Okha on 18thMay, 2020 at 21.40 hrs. The train will halt at Jamnagar, Rajkot, Surendranagar, Ahmedabad, Anand, Vadodara, Bharuch, Surat, Vasai Rd, Panvel, Roha, Ratnagiri, Kankavli, Madgaon, Mangalore, Kannur, Calicut, Shoranur Jn, Thrisur, Ernakulam Town, Kottayam and Kollam stations in both directions.
Shri Bhakar stated that since 23rd March to 11thMay 2020, commodities weighing more than 30000 tonnes have been transported by Western Rly through its various parcel special trains, which included agricultural produce, medicines, fish, milk etc. The earnings generated through this transportation, has been more than Rs 9.10 crore. Under this transportation, twenty five milk special trains were run by Western Rly, with a load of above 18000 tonnes and 100% utilization of the wagons, generating revenue of more than Rs 3.13 crore. Similarly, 169 Covid-19 special parcel trains were also run to transport essential commodities, for which the revenue earned was approx Rs 5.18 crore. In addition to this, 4 indented rakes were also run with 100% utilization for earnings of approximately 78 lakh. Shri Bhakar stated that from 22nd March to 11th May, 2020, total 3554 rakes of goods trains have been used to supply essential commodities amounting to 6.81 million tonnes. 7274 freight trains were interchanged with other railways, including 3656 trains handed over and 3618 trains taken over at different interchange points. 200 Millennium Parcel rakes of Parcel Vans/Railway Milk Tankers (RMTs) have been sent to different parts of the country to cope with the demands of essential items such as milk powder, liquid milk, medical supplies and other general consumer goods.
Shri Bhakar informed that four parcel special trains left from WR for various parts of the country on 12th May, 2020 viz. Porbandar – Shalimar, Bhuj – Dadar andBandra Terminus – Ludhiana special trains. one milk rake also ran from Palanpur to Hind Terminal.He stated that the total loss of earnings over Western Railway inclusive of suburban & non -suburban sections, since March, 2020, has been Rs 821.52 crore on account of lockdown. Inspite of this, due to cancellation of tickets till now, Western Railway has ensured to refund amount ofRs 239.20 crore. It's worth mentioning that in this refund amount, Mumbai division alone, has ensured refund of Rs 115.58 crore. Till now, 37.35 lakh passengers have cancelled their tickets over entire Western Railway & have received their refund amount accordingly.
