AMENITIES FOR DIVYANG (DIFFERENTLY-ABLED) PASSENGERS IN RAILWAY STATIONS OF CHENNAI DIVISION                                                                                    
Standard facilities have been provided for the ‘Divyang’ (Differently-abled) passengers in 14 railway stations over Chennai Division of Southern Railway.The facilities provided in the railway stations include standard ramps, parking facilities, non-slippery walkways, signages, help booths, water taps and toilets in ground floor, wheel chairs, etc.
Facilities for differently-abled passengers will be provided at 70 more railway stations in Chennai Division.Tender for execution of these works at a cost of Rs.3.80 crores will be floated in the 3rd week of March, 2018.
To help the differently-abled passengers move with ease within the railway station, battery operated cars have been provided in Chennai Central and Chennai Egmore railway stations.The scope for providing this facility at Tambaram railway station is being examined.
Furthermore, 12,735 differently-abled persons have been issued ID cards upto January, 2018.These ID cards will help them enjoy the many privileges that railways offer.
A 24x7 Helpline Number 044-25354457, that will function round the clock, has been opened in Chennai Division.RPF Helpline Number 182 can be utilised in case of difficulties in accommodation earmarked for differently-abled passengers.
39 lifts have been provided in 20 railway stations over Chennai Division.Works for provision of 3 lifts are in progress in 2 railway stations.
