Dedicated Freight corridor, whose Rewari - Madar section on Western corridor, was dedicated to the Nation by Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi today, is going be the game changer in economic development of the country.

Dedicated Freight Corridor Corporation of India is constructing the Western DFC (1506 Route km) and Eastern DFC (1875 route km including Sonnagar-Dankuni PPP Section). The EDFC starting from Sahnewal near Ludhiana (Punjab) will pass through the states of Punjab, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar and Jharkhand to terminate at Dankuni in West Bengal. The Western Corridor connecting Dadri in Uttar Pradesh to Jawaharlal Nehru Port (JNPT) in Mumbai will traverse through the states of UP, Haryana, Rajasthan, Gujarat and Maharashtra of WDFC.

Details -

306 km Rewari -  Madar section

●          This section falls in Haryana State (for approx. 79 Km in Mahendragarh& Rewari districts) and Rajasthan State (for approx. 227 Km in Jaipur, Ajmer, Sikar, Nagaur& Alwar districts).

●          Approx 40% of WDFC is in Rajasthan

●          Approx 250 km of DFC is in Haryana state

●          This section contains 16 major bridges and viaduct (1 viaduct & 15 major bridges), 269 minor bridges, 4 Rail Fly Overs, 22 Road Over Bridges & 177 Road Under Bridges eliminating 148 Level crossings.

●          There are 9 newly built DFC stations in this section, six crossing stations (i.e. New Dabla, New Bhagega, New Sri Madhopur, New PacharMalikpur, New Sakun and New Kishangarh) and three junction stations (i.e. New Rewari, New Ateli and New Phulera).

●          Total value of Contracts including Civil, Electrical and S&T is Rs. 5800 crore in this section excluding land.

●          The opening of this stretch will benefit various industries in Rewari – Manesar, Narnaul, Phulera & Kishangarh areas of Rajasthan, Haryana and National Capital Region. .

●          In addition to this, the container depot of CONCOR at Kathuwas will also come on the DFC map and get advantage in terms of faster throughput.

●          The ports of Gujarat like Kandla, Pipavav, Mundhra, Dahejetc will have an uninterrupted connectivity to the Northern parts of India.

●          With the dedication to the Nation of the 351-km Bhaupur-Khurja section, and construction of connecting link between Khurja - Boraki-Dadri- Rewari, seamless movement between WDFC & EDFC can ensue.

●          DFCCIL had conducted an trial-run of Indian Railways (IR) freight trains on this section. ,

●          The Track Recording Car of RDSO had conducted Oscillation trials  of BOXNS Wagons at 110 Kmph.These wagons have a Tare weight of 19.85 ton and a carrying capacity of 80.15 ton. These wagons have a 14% more weight carrying capacity than the wagons being currently used on Indian Railways.The DFCCIL infrastructure is well placed to utilise the carrying capacity of these  wagons. Currently, Indian Railways freight trains can carry 61 -71 ton weight per freight carriage at an approximate speed of 60 kmph.The newer, advanced wagons can carry weights upto 81 ton per wagon at an approximate speed of 100 kmph. The newer wagons are safer and modern too.

●          Trial runs of BLCS-A and BLCS-B wagon prototype have also  been completed in this section. These wagons have enhanced axle load of 25 ton and been designed for DFCCIL by RDSO’s wagon department. The design will maximize capacity utilization and uniform distributed and point loading. These wagons on a long-haul double stack container train on the WDFC at an speed of 100 kmph..

●          DFCCIL will run freight train at the maximum speed of 100 km/per hour as against the current maximum speed of 75 kmph on Indian Railway tracks whereas the average speed of freight trains will also be increased from existing speed of 26 kmph on Indian Railways lines to 70 kmph on Dedicated Freight Corridors (DFC).

A.        Main objectives of DFCCIL

1.         Decongest the existing Indian Railway network.

2         Increase the average speed of goods trains from existing 25 to 70 kmph.

3.         Run Heavy Haul trains (higher axle load of 25/32.5 Tonne) & overall load of 13,000 Tonne.

4.         Facilitate the running of longer (1.5km) and double stack container trains.

5.         Connect the existing ports and industrial areas for faster movement of goods.

6.         Energy efficient and environment friendly rail transport system as per global standards.

7.         Increase the rail share from existing 30% to 45%.

8.         Reduce the logistic cost of transportation

B. Innovations and State-of-the-art Technology:

1.         Heavy and long Haul train operation of 25 Axle ton with having provision of 32.5 Ton axle load for the First time in India.

2.         Double stack containers in Western DFC

3.         Double line electric (2 X 25 KV) track to undertake higher haulage at higher speeds

4.         Automated New Track Construction (NTC) machine which can lay track at the speed of 1.5 km per day.

5.         Automated Wiring train for Overhead Equipment Work (OHE) capable of wiring upto 3 km per shift.

6.         Train Protection and Warning System (TPWS) for safe and efficient operation

7.         Elimination of road level crossing

8.         Developing Multi Modal Logistic Hubs and integration with Delhi-Mumbai Industrial Corridor & Amritsar-Kolkata Industrial corridor.

Details of World First electric loco hauled Double Stack 1.5 km Long container Freight trains flagged off from New Ateli and New Kishangarh Stations of  high rise 7.5 meter OHE section of WDFC

Front loco of both the trains were flagged off today by Hon’ble Prime Minister is WAG 12 Loco manufactured at Indian Railways make in India factory at Madhepura, Bihar.

The WAG -12 electric super powered double-section locomotives of 12,000 HP are capable of hauling  6000 tonnes at a top speed of 120 kmph. They are planned to be deployed for operations on major freight routes, including the Dedicated Freight Corridors (DFCs), transforming the heavy freight transportation landscape of India. These locomotives manufactured at Madhepura are of 12,000-horsepower with a twin Bo-Bo design, engineered to run at a speed that is twice as faster than regular locomotives and are built to carry 6000 tonnes of goods in one go. Equipped with Insulated Gate Bipolar Transistors (IGBT) based propulsion technology, the WAG 12B uses regenerative braking, reducing energy consumption. With 1676 mm of Broad Gauge, these e-locos are designed to take smooth turns even at the sharpest of curves.

The second loco which is attached in the middle and working as a piped loco of the long haul train is WAG 9 of 6000 HP built from Chittaranjan Locomotive Works (CLW), West Bengal, India.

In a first, double stack 1.5 km long electric train had run in the DFCCIL Newly commissioned 7.5 meter high OHE Section. In one train, 360 Ten Feet Container Equivalent Units (TEU) are moving which is equivalent to 270 high capacity Road Trailer trucks.

Details of Train Flagged off from New Ateli Station of WDFC

●          This train is partly loaded from Kathuwas Container siding of CONCOR and  partly loaded from Garhi siding of Gateway Logistics. The 1.5 km long trains consist of 90 BLC Wagons and two brake vans have a gross weight of 4941 tons  destined to  Mundra port in Gujarat, hauled by WAG12 12000 HP manufactured at Indian Railways make in India factory at Madhepura, Bihar and WAG9 locomotive manufactured at Chittaranjan Locomotive Works, West Bengal. 

●          Container Details: Container loaded with iron artware, aluminium artware, decorated laminated sheets, wooden hardware, lamps, furnishing items, auto parts, steel products, tiles .

●          Loading Points :  Concor Multimodal Logistics Park, Kathuwas and ICD GarhiHarsaru (Gurugram) Gate way Rail

●          Destination Details: Iron artware and aluminium artware and lamps loaded from Moradabad area going to USA & Germany, furnishing items of Gurugram to  UK, auto parts from Sonepat to USA, Steel products from Hisar to South & East Africa, Tiles from Bahadurgarh to Croatia, wooden artware, lamps and decorative laminated sheets to Dubai & Indonesia.

Details of Train Flagged off from New Kishangarh Station of WDFC

●          Half of the long train is loaded from Pipavav port and other half is loaded from Mundra post. The rake consists of 90 BLC wagons and two brake vans have a gross weight of 5966 ton, hauled by WAG12 12000 HP manufactured at Indian Railways make in India factory at Madhepura, Bihar and WAG9 locomotive manufactured at Chittaranjan Locomotive Works, West Bengal. 

●          Container Details: Container loaded with Destined for TKD (Tughlakabad Container Depot of Concor) and DER (Dadri Container Depot of Concor). Major commodity are Spare parts, Electric parts, Machine, Spray parts, Knitting Machine, Polyester fabric. The Origin of the major containers is  United Arab Emirates. Other items are PVC items, paper, polymers, ethylene, auto components, copper tubes, furniture and  aluminium coil and are loaded  from Gulf countries and Far East Line ( Indonesia and Singapore).

●          Loading Points :  Pipavav and Mundra Port, Gujarat

●          Destination Details: Concor Multimodal Logistics Park, Khatuwas

In spite of challenges due to lockdown to prevent the spread of Covid-19 virus, the wheels of freight and parcel trains o­n SWR move o­n for transportation of essential commodities and materials to all parts of the country.Railways continue to play a significant part in making sure that essentials are transported to all places during the lockdown.The life line of the nation has by its network reached every nook and corner of the country during the lockdown and provided essentials and medicines during the Covid-19 pandemic.

From transporting raw materials and essential commodities, Bengaluru Division of SWR is now achieved a milestone by loading Automobiles from Bengaluru (Dodballapur) to Kanakpura in Rajasthan.Railway is the preferred mode of transport and after persistent follow-up, Bengaluru Division of SWR has o­n 29.04.2020 loaded o­ne rake of NMG wagons carrying 175 tractors for M/s. TAFE (M/s Tractors and Farm Equipments Ltd.) from Dodballapur Railway station for a distance of approx 2158 Km to Kanakpura. The wagons were loaded by M/s TCI Logistics.
With the success of the first load of tractors consignment which is a win for both Automobile manufacturers, their customers, today SWR has loaded another load of NMG rakes i.e. second lot of 175 tractors were loaded from Dodballapur Railway station to Kankaria near Ahmedabad in Gujarat. These tractors will help the farmers, especially both in Rajasthan and Gujarat in plowing their fields in the coming Kharif sowing season with minimum labour.
SWR is running freight and time-tabled parcel trains even o­n those routes where demand is less so that essentials and emergency medicines reach the entire network of the country. Coordination is being done between state government and Railways to ensure that all essential goods are loaded/unloaded without delay.

IRCTC, a subsidiary of the Indian Railways, has introduced a special train that is providing a golden opportunity to travellers who want to visit the colourful state of Rajasthan this winter. Specially launched to cover the desert circuit of the state, this special semi-luxury train commenced its operations last weekend. In a bid to boost desert and heritage tourism in the country, the train will take passengers on a five-day trip covering beautiful locations in Jaisalmer and Jaipur.

Starting its journey from Delhi's Safdarjung railway station, the train will first take travellers to Jaisalmer, where a guided trip will be organised to the various tourist destinations of the place, including the Sand Dunes, Gadisagar Lake, Patwon Ki Haveli, and Jaisalmer Fort, a  continuing up to Day 3 of the trip.

In Jaipur, the next stopover, tourists will be taken to City Palace, Jantar Mantar, Hawa Mahal, and Chokhi Dhani on the fourth day. Amer Fort will be part of the last day's itinerary, before passengers are dropped back to Delhi in the evening.

Feel like taking a ride already? All you need to do is book and board this semi-luxury train, and stop worrying about luggage, lodging, meals, transportation, and all other logistics as they will be taken care of by senior IRCTC officials accompanying you.

The Desert Circuit package prices are Rs.36,900, Rs.33,900, Rs.32,900 (first AC single, double and triple occupancy respectively) and for child with bed (5-11 years) Rs.25,000.
It is Rs.28,025, Rs.25,025, Rs. 24,525 (second AC) and for child Rs.19,500.

For third AC, it is Rs.24,125, Rs. 21,125, Rs. 20,625 respectively and for child Rs.17,000.

IRCTC is also giving discount of 10 percent for everyone, 12 percent for senior citizens and 12 percent for group booking.

Rajasthan: ‘Water’ express to quench Bhilwara

For the first time, trains will be used to ferry water to Bhilwara during the winters as bad monsoon has dried up the town’s only source of surface water, official said on Friday.

A 50-coach water train will ferry water between Nasirabad and Bhilwara from December 20, said RK Ojha, superintending engineer of the public health engineering department, Bhilwara.

“We are cleaning the underground tank and sprucing up the pipeline at the railway station and it should be ready to receive water ferried by a train from December 20,” he said.
“Nasirabad railway station is getting ready for the train’s operation.”

This is the first time that trains will ferry drinking water during the winters in Rajasthan, he said.
The last time trains ferried drinking water to Bhilwara was in 2013, which were run between March 13 and August 3.

The December train will be the third in a decade, the first run was in 2010, when trains were used to ferry drinking water between Nasirabad and Bhilwara, and between Jodhpur and Pali during the summers.
“We will need to run the train until July or August, if the city does not receive water from the Chambal water project,” said Ojha.

Officials of the public health engineering department, which supplies drinking water to different neighbouhoods of the city, said Bhilwara’s main drinking water source – the Meja dam – is left with less than seven days of water supply as bad monsoon has dried up the dam.

Scanty monsoon could fill only 0.61% of the dam’s capacity as a result the city is getting a supply of less than 260 lakh litre every day against the demand of 513 lakh litre, some of them said.

Senior divisional manager (operations) of Ajmer division, Mukesh Saini said they have forwarded the PHED’s demand to the railways headquarters with the request for providing wagons.
The wagons, carrying drinking water have to be thoroughly cleaned by the carriage and wagon wing of the division, he said. “The PHED has requested for one rake from December 20 and another from February. We have forwarded their request to our head office and are waiting for directions.”

The train will ferry 25 lakh litre of water every day – not enough to make up for the city’s shortfall of 200 lakh litre – but PHED officials said they could not afford more trips since a single trip would cost the department Rs 4 lakh.

JAIPUR: The Railways Ministry is looking at forming a joint venture with the Rajasthan government for developing rail infrastructure in the state, Union Minister Suresh Prabhu said today. 
Besides, he said, 24 stations of the state will be developed as model railway stations. 
"The Railways and the government of Rajasthan will be entering into a joint venture for developing railway infrastructure in the state," he said at the 'Resurgent Rajasthan Partnership Summit' here. 
Under this, a company jointly owned by the Centre and States will be formed, he said, adding, it will develop infrastructure and look into issues that the States deem to be important. 
He further said the government is committed to provide all kinds of support to the state for development. 
Speaking on the occasion, Union Urban Development Minister M Venkaiah Naidu said the Centre will help the Rajasthan government under the principle of Cooperative Competitive Federalism to ensure growth. 
Out of the 100 destinations shortlisted under the Smart Cities programme, four of them belong to Rajasthan, he said. 
Extending support for the development of the state, Union Chemicals and Fertilizers Minister Ananth Kumar said the government will facilitate Chambal Fertilizers and Chemicals Ltd to set up a brownfield fertilizer unit at Gadepan in Rajasthan to produce 12.7 Lakh Metric Tonne of Urea with the investment of Rs 5,500 crore. 
Kumar announced that the Government will also invest Rs 100 crore for setting up a 2.4 lakh MT Single Super Phosphate plant in Chittorgarh. 

To meet the Urea demand of the state, Kumar said the central government is providing 12 lakh MT this year.

Rain pounds Tamil Nadu as depression looms large

Tamil Nadu continued to experience monsoon fury, with heavy rains pounding various parts of the State under the influence of a well-marked low pressure area over Bay of Bengal, as the death toll from rain-related incidents climbed to 59.

There seemed to be no respite from the downpour with many parts of Chennai coming under water even as the weatherman forecast more rains for the next 24 hours, beginning 0830 hrs.

The India Meteorological Department said in a bulletin on Sunday that the well-marked low pressure area over southwest Bay of Bengal adjoining Sri Lanka persisted and “it is likely to move west-northwestwards towards Tamil Nadu coast and would concentrate into a depression during next 24 hours.”

Under its influence, more rains were expected in the next 24 hours, the Regional Meteorological Department said.

Weather warning (valid upto 0830 hrs IST of Monday):

Day 1 (15th Nov.): Heavy to very heavy rain would occur at a few places over north Tamil Nadu. Heavy rain would occur at isolated places over south Tamil Nadu. Moderate fog would occur at isolated places over Meghalaya, Nagaland-Manipur-Mizoram-Tripura, Uttar Pradesh, Haryana, Chandigarh & Delhi and north Rajasthan.

Day 2 (16th Nov.): Heavy to very heavy rain would occur at a few places over Tamil Nadu & Puducherry and at isolated places over Rayalaseema. Heavy rain would occur at isolated places over couth coastal Andhra Pradesh, south Tamil Nadu and south interior Karnataka. Moderate fog would occur at isolated places over Meghalaya and Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram-Tripura.

Day 3 (17th Nov.): Heavy to very heavy rain would occur at isolated places over coastal Andhra Pradesh and Rayalseema.

Heavy rain would occur at isolated places over north Tamil Nadu and south interior Karnataka.

Day 4 (18th Nov.): Heavy to very heavy rain would occur at isolated places over coastal Andhra Pradesh.

Day 5 (19th Nov.): Nil.
Weather Outlook for the subsequent 2 days (20th Nov. & 21st Nov. 2015): Rain/thundershowers would occur at many places over Tamil Nadu, coastal Andhra Pradesh, Rayalseema and Kerala and would increase considerably over rest peninsular India. Minimum temperature would fall by 2-3 degrees C over northwest and adjoining central India.

New Delhi: Indian Railways’ Maharajas’ Express, the world’s leading luxury train, chugged out of a Delhi station on Sunday on a royal odyssey to take its patrons across the famed ‘Golden Triangle’, signaling the beginning of its first journey of the new tourist season.

A signature enterprise of Indian Railways Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC), the magnificent train, known for unmatched hospitality and off-train excursion, runs on five circuits across north-west and central India, covering around a dozen destinations, mainly in Rajasthan, between the tourist months of October and March.
Maharaja Express interiors
IRCTC Chairman and Managing Director Dr. AK Manocha, who was present at Safdarjung station from where the train steamed out, said plans are afoot to run Maharajas’ Express during the off-season too (April-September) with some concession.

“During the lean season, we may offer one free ticket for every single booking. Thus, a couple can board the train by buying one only one ticket,” he informed.

The Safdarjung station wore a festive look on the occasion; Uttaranchal Pipe Band played music, shehnai and tabla players showed their expertise and immaculately-dressed staff stood in tows as the exuberant guests boarded the 23-coach, half-a-mile-long train that looked resplendent in maroon exterior with a golden hue.

The three-night/four-day trip, known as ‘Treasures of India’ will offer the guests an opportunity to explore and experience the rich cultural heritage of Incredible India, including the Taj Mahal, mighty fortresses and exquisite palaces (in Jaipur) and the Ranthambore National Park.

The train, which began its inaugural run in March 2010, has won a hat-trick of the coveted World Travel Award-from 2012 to 2014. Last month, it bagged the prestigious ‘Seven Star Luxury Hospitality and Lifestyle Awards’ for the category “Seven Star Experience” at a function in Bali, Indonesia. The luxury train also won the CNBC Travel Award for the second time in June this year.

During 2014-15, 1,144 passengers boarded the train in 33 trips with a total income of Rs 47.89 crore as against 865 passengers in 28 trips and an income of Rs 36.27 crore in 2013-14.

With exquisite interiors, state of the art amenities and impeccable hospitality, Maharajas’ Express has four cabin configurations-Deluxe, Junior Suite, Suite and President Suite.

Each guest cabin comes equipped with RFID door locks, individual temperature control, fire alarm, attached washrooms with showers, electronic safe, live television, DVD player, WiFi Internet and a water filtration plant. Besides round the clock valet service, a paramedic is available throughout the journey of the train, which is equipped with CCTV cameras. There is a souvenir shop also.

There are two tastefully done dining cars as well, offering a range of delicacies. The seating capacity of the dining cars is 84 to ensure that all guests eat together. A bar car, named Safari, and the lounge, known as the Rajah Club, have well stocked bar. In the dining car, guests enjoy meals in gold-crested plates and spoons that have been imported from Paris.

The tariff, ranging between 3850 US dollars and 23,700 dollars depending on the train’s five circuits, includes meals, house wines and spirits, sightseeing and services of experienced guides. All the living cabins have been named after precious gems, such as Firoza, Moti, Manik, Panna and Hakik, in an effort to recreate the mystique of royal grandeur of a bygone era.

“There are many distinct features that set Maharajas’ Express leagues apart of its contemporaries. It commands huge brand equity in the world,” said Dr. Manocha.

Isolux Corsan Consolidates its Railway Business in India with the Award of 3 Electrification Contracts

Isolux Corsan, the global benchmark critical infrastructure contractor, has been selected by Rail Vikash Nigam Ltd (RVNL), Special Purpose Vehicle (SPV) wholly owned by Government of India under National Railway Board, for the design and construction of Over-Head Equipment, Traction Substations and associated intelligent railway operations systems in the major railway sections in State of Rajasthan, Karnataka and Telengana.

The contract includes the engineering, procurement, construction, testing and commissioning of Over-Head Equipment, Switching Stations, Traction SubStations, SCADA, signalling, Telecommunication, Buildings and other associated works. The three projects involve 563 km of railway electrification and five traction substations.

Isolux Corsan
The company will design and build a total of 563 Km of Over-Head Equipment, including five Traction SubStations and associated intelligent railway operations systems, in the States of Rajasthan, Karnataka and Telengana.

These three major rail electrification contracts awarded to Isolux Corsán, strengthens its position in India, where the Group is already a relevant player in the areas of T&D and transport infrastructure.
The Electrification work includes Traction Substations and 25 kV AC Over-Head Equipment (OHE). Signalling and Telecommunication work includes Automatic Signalling, Electronic Interlocking, Train Detection using Multi Section Digital Axle Counters (MSDAC) and OFC based communication system. The Building works include Station Buildings, Substations Control Room buildings and Staff Quarters.

One project is located in section Rani to Swarupganj, in Ajmer Division of North Western Railway in the State of Rajasthan, including one Traction Substation and a total of 198 Km of High Rise (7.2m contact wire height) Traction Over-Head Equipment.

The other two projects are located in the State of Karnata-Telengana. One project is in the Hubli Division of South Western Railway. The works will be done in sections Hospet to Kudatini and Toranagallu to Ranjitpura, with a total of 187 Km of Track Railway Electrification and two Traction Substations. The other project is in the Guntakal Division of South Central Railway. The works will be done in section Kudatini to Guntakal, with a total of 178 Km of Track Railway Electrification and two Traction Substations.

These projects are part of a massive investment plan conceived by Government of India for rail sector to eliminate capacity bottlenecks on Golden Quadrilateral and Diagonals to provide strategic rail communication links to ports, construction of mega-bridges for improving communication to the hinterland and development of multi-modal transport corridors. This initiative has been given the name of National Rail Vikas Yojana.

These three major rail electrification contracts awarded to Isolux Corsán strengthens its position in India, where the Group is already a relevant player in the areas of T&D and transport infrastructure, the latter, with projects awarded over 120 million Euros.

Isolux Corsán is firmly established as a leading specialist in High Speed railway throughout the world, with over 2,000 Km of high-speed railway electrification already in operation.

Indian Railways freight train derails in Mumbai

A major mishap was averted on Friday when three coaches of an Indian Railways freight train coming to Mumbai from Rajasthan derailed.

The incident took place at the Kandivli Railway Station of Borivli.

The train was coming from Banas and heading towards the Jogeshwari Railway Station, when three of its coaches derailed in the middle of Borivli-Kandivli railway track.

The derailment, however, did not claim any lives, nor did it disrupt the services of local trains. Cranes were used to get the three derailed train coaches back on track.

The coaches contained cement bags, which were transferred to a freight train going in the opposite direction to ensure clearance of the railway track and route.

Indian Railways is investigating what caused the derailment.

Railway Minister Suresh Prabhu on Saturday called upon industrialists to come forward for the development of railway stations on PPP model and assured them of full assistance from his ministry.

Addressing industrialists at the Jodhpur Industries Association hall on the second day of his Jodhpur visit, Prabhu termed the city as commercial hub of the country for its entrepreneurship and availability of minerals, specially lime.

He said these features can play an important role in taking the country to the desired heights in manufacturing sector.

On tourism potential in Rajasthan, Prabhu said the Central and state governments together are forming a company to explore the tourism potential in the state and addressing the rail-related issues in a better way.

"This company will generate funds for strengthening of rail infrastructure, making and implementing new projects and enhancement in the rail and passengers' facilities," he said.

Considering the tourism potential in Rajasthan, a new tourism policy will be drafted soon, which will provide new direction to the tourism industry in the state, Prabhu said.

He also met the erstwhile ruler of Jodhpur Gaj Singh II on Friday to explore the possibilities wherein the Indian Heritage Hotels' Association (IHHA) and the Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC) would work together for the promotion of tourism.

The discussions were centred around restoring and developing the heritage properties and unused ancient rail lines as a part of a tourist circuit. Singh said that heritage tourism has a huge potential and these properties can be utilised and promoted as added tourism attraction.

Jaipur: Rajasthan’s historic capital where once rajas and maharajas trundled and trotted on caparisoned horses and elephants will now travel on the modern icon of urban mobility – the sleek and fast-moving metro train.
Rajastan Chief Minister Vasundhara Raje on Wednesday inaugurated metro rail services in Jaipur. The pink city has now joined the league of India cities which includes Delhi, Mumbai, Bangalore and Kolkata, having metro connectivity.

Completed nearly four-and-a-half-years, the Jaipur metro is touted as one of the fastest-built metros in the country. The 9.63-km elevated section of the Jaipur metro with nine stations and built on standard gauge connects the city’s residential area Mansarovar to business hub in Chandpole

he line is expected to ferry approximately 1.2 lakh passengers daily. A total of 10 four-coach trains will be making 131 trips each day between the two terminal stations at a frequency of 10 minutes in peak hours and 15 minutes in off-peak hours.

Normal operations will begin from 6.45 am and will continue till 9 pm. Fare for the 9.6km metro stretch will be in three slabs of Rs 5, Rs 10 and Rs 15.

Raje along with ministers, officers and supporters travelled in the train from Mansarovar to Chandpole and alighted at Civil Lines station while returning.

After the opening ceremony, the Jaipur Metro commenced its regular commercial operations from all its 9 stations – Mansarovar, New Aatish Market, Vivek Vihar, Shyam Nagar, Ram Nagar, Civil Lines, Railway Station, Sindhi Camp and Chandpole.

“After this, we will try to connect the next part of the project with it,” Raje told reporters at the Civil Lines station.

She visited Mansarovar station where Jaipur Metro CMD N C Goel briefed her about the functioning and operations.

People in buildings along the metro line were seen greeting and waving hands as the train undertook its first official journey.

Large number of locals were seen queuing up at the ticket counters to enjoy their first ride in the Jaipur metro.

As per the time table issued by the JMRC for first three months, trains will operate from Mansarovar to Chandpole and from Chandpole to Mansarovar at a frequency of 10 to 15 minutes from 6.45 AM to 9 PM every day.

The fare structure varies for peak and off-peak hours.

They have been fixed in multiples of Rs 5 and a flat discount of Rs 5 has been offered for off-peak hours.

For the first six months, off-peak fares will be charged throughout the day. Automatic fare collection system has been installed to collect and manage the fare revenue.

To encourage people to travel in the metro, upto 15 per cent discount has been offered on smart cards, which can be recharged using Jaipur Metro website or ticket vending machines installed at all stations.

Two types of tourist cards, one-day tour card and three- day tour card, have been introduced, which can be used for unlimited number of trips during the day(s) of their validity, the JMRC said.

For effective execution of the project in its initial stages, the total work of Phase-1 was divided into two parts — Phase-1A and Phase-1B.

The phase 1A is from Mansarovar to Chandpole, opened on Wednesday, while work on phase 1B from Chandpole to Badi Chaupad is underway.

The project, which was initiated by the previous government and fully funded by the state government and its agencies, has commissioned in about 4 years and a quarter with estimated cost of Rs 2,023 crore (Rs 20.23 billion) and is one of the fastest project implementations in the metro sector, the JMRC said.

A double-decked elevated corridor, common for the metro and BRTS, is one of features of the civil structure of the Jaipur Metro.

All the metro stations are supported by a single row of piers to make the overall structure lighter and more open.

Of the nine stations, Chandpole is an underground station.

Thirty per cent of Jaipur Metro’s operation and maintenance staff, including train operators and station controllers, are women, the JMRC added.

Rajasthan police has been given the responsibility of the metro and 789 police personnel have been sanctioned for security.

Latest security equipment have also been provided at all the metro stations.

Feeder services will be available to provide last mile connectivity to the passengers at all the nine stations.

Urban Development and Housing minister Rajpal Singh, Food minister Hem Singh, Industry minister Gajendra Singh, BJP state president Ashok Parnami, MLAs Ghanshyam Tiwari and Mohan Lal Gupta and other leaders were present at the inaugural ceremony.

Bharatpur (BTE): A total 70 trains have been affected – ten of them cancelled and the others diverted – on the busy route that connects Delhi and Mumbai, as hundreds of protesters sat overnight on rail tracks in Rajasthan’s Bharatpur district to demand reservation in the state for Gujjars.

A railway statement listed the trains affected, among them Rajdhani trains between Delhi and Mumbai and also Shatabdis. It said the agitation had begun at 6 pm on Thursday, affecting train traffic.

On Thursday evening, the Gujjar Reservation Front of Rajasthan had called for a ‘mahapanchayat’ or big meeting in Samogar village of Bharatpur. About a 1000 protesters later trooped down to the rail tracks and sat there.

They have said that they will not budge till their demand for reservation in the state is met. The Rajasthan government says it cannot make any promises, with the matter in court.

“We are always open to discussion but this issue is now in court,” said Rajasthan Chief Minister Vasundhara Raje.

Gujjars have been demanding reservation since 2007. They were given 5 per cent reservation in a separate quota, but as that exceeded the 50 per cent quota mandated by the Supreme Court, the matter is now caught in a legal tangle and is being heard in the Rajasthan High Court.

In the past, the Gujjars have launched two violent agitations blocking railway tracks and roads in Rajasthan, throwing law and order out of gear.
