Seven new AFC Gates installed at DMRC’s Rajiv Chowk station

Seven new AFC Gates installed at DMRC’s Rajiv Chowk station

Seven new fare collection gates have been installed at Delhi Metro’s Rajiv Chowk station to facilitate smooth exit of passengers deboarding from Yellow Line trains which run between Jahangirpuri and Gurgaon’s Huda City Centre

New Delhi: Seven new fare collection gates have been installed at Delhi Metro’s Rajiv Chowk station to facilitate smooth exit of passengers deboarding from Yellow Line trains which run between Jahangirpuri and Gurgaon’s Huda City Centre.

These additional gates – which had to be installed by cutting a portion of the station area – is aimed at reducing congestion in the area which takes one towards F-Block of Connaught Place, which registers maximum outflow, Metro said.

In this regard, Delhi Metro had previously opened the Viewers Gallery, the unpaid area of the busy intersection, to allow its passengers to move over the tracks of Blue Line without crossing the foot-over-bridge.

However, it has very few takers as of now.

“These additional gates will facilitate smooth and swift exit of passengers of Yellow Line (Line-2) from the station without getting into the way of Blue Line (ie, Line-3 Dwarka Sec-21 to Noida City Centre) passengers within the paid area and vice versa and will avoid unnecessary criss-crossing while interchange,” a Metro statement said.

Adequate signages have been installed to guide passengers towards these gates, it said. With these new installations, the number of Automatic Fare Collection gates at Rajiv Chowk has gone up to 46, the maximum for any station in the entire Metro network.

“It has been observed that generally 70 per cent of the passengers land up at the Dwarka-side platform and then cross the over-bridge to go towards the Noida/Vaishali platform. The move is aimed at facilitating smooth movement of passengers from one side of the station to another and to avoid unnecessary congestion inside the paid area,” said Delhi Metro Rail Corporation in a press statement.

Southern Railway gives green signal for development projects in Kollam

Southern Railway gives green signal for development projects in Kollam

Kundara and Eravipuram railway overbridges prioritised

Kollam (QLN): The construction wing of the Southern Railway has endorsed the railway development projects for the Kollam Parliamentary constituency announced by the Thiruvananthapuram Railway Division authorities earlier.

In their first review meeting with N.K. Premachandran, Kollam MP, here on Thursday, the construction wing officers decided to give top priority for constructing road overbridges across the railway tracks at Kundara and Eravipuram.

Mr. Premachandran had requested priority for these two projects in view of the difficulties endured by people in these areas when the level crossings get closed for the movement of the trains. He informed the officers that the situation in Kundara was serious as more trains will move along that stretch once the Punalur-Shencottah gauge conversion is completed.

The railway team was led by chief engineer of the construction wing, D.S. Chauhan. The team has also approved the second entry point project for the Kollam railway station.

The project will comprise a 135-metre-long foot overbridge from the second entry point connecting all the platforms of the station and also linking the NH 47 near Puthiyakavu temple at the existing entry point and the NH 208 near Craven LMS High School where the second entry point will be constructed.

The project will comprise a parking area where 750 vehicles can be parked at a time. There will be ticket booking offices too.

Mr. Chauhan informed the MP that once the work is tendered, the project will be completed in a time-bound manner. As part of modernising the railway station, lifts and escalators will be added. Officials said that the new design for the Perinad underpass has been approved.

The development plans for Kollam railway station include a 135-metre-long foot overbridge, parking area for 750 vehicles, and escalators.
