In recent days, long queues have been observed outside metro stations as entry to the stations is regulated due to restrictions on number of passengers to be allowed inside the train. As per the current guidelines, only sitting on alternative seats is permitted and no standing is allowed. Although, DMRC is running maximum numbers of trains, passengers have to wait outside the stations because of the restrictions above.

At present, the carrying capacity of the Delhi Metro as per existing guidelines is in the range of 10-15% only.

The long queues are caused as single entry points only are permitted at most of the Metro stations as in a mass transit system it is difficult to regulate the number of persons inside the system once entry is permitted.

The DMRC is running 5100 train trips everyday with a peak frequency of 2.5 min to 5 min on all the major corridors. This was the same frequency at which Metro was operating during the normal pre-Covid times. The Metro is thus operating and running at its full frequency/capacity but with reduced number of passengers owing to restrictions.

HON’BLE PRIME MINISTER INAUGURATES INDIA’S FIRST DRIVERLESS TRAIN AND NATIONAL COMMON MOBILITY CARD SERVICES ON DELHI METRO

Hon’ble Prime Minister, Sh. Narendra Modi today inaugurated the country’s first ever fully automated ‘Driverless Train’ service by flagging off the first such train stationed at Jasola Vihar-Shaheen Bagh Metro station on Delhi Metro’s 37 km long Magenta Line (Janakpuri West to Botanical Garden) and also the National Common Mobility Card (NCMC) on the 23 km long Airport Express Line (New Delhi to Dwarka Sector 21) via video conference in the presence of the Union Minister of State (Independent Charge), Housing and Urban Affairs, Sh. Hardeep Singh Puri and the Chief Minister of Delhi, Sh. Arvind Kejriwal.

The inaugural ceremony held through video conferencing was attended by thousands of people from across the globe as history was created with the operationalisation of India's first ever driverless train. Apart from senior dignitaries from the Central Government and the Government of the NCT of Delhi, the event was also witnessed online by HE Ambassador of Japan to India, Mr. Satoshi SUZUKI. Senior dignitaries from Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), from Tokyo and Delhi also witnessed the event online.

With the launch of these fully automated Driverless Train operations (DTO), India enters into the elite league of few countries having this facility in their Metro system. The fully automated trains will reduce human intervention in operations and offer more reliability and safety for the commuters. This system also brings more flexibility in trains in operation. As a result, the number of trains in service can be regulated based on demand dynamically without any dependence on availability of crew. Since these trains operate on communication based train control (signalling) system, they can be run with a headway as high as 90 seconds to offer more carrying capacity.

In DTO, initially, the train operator will be present in the train to instil a sense of confidence and assistance. DTO’s higher level of diagnostic features will help move from conventional Time Based Maintenance to Condition Based Maintenance. This will also reduce maintenance down time of trains.

The NCMC service enables passengers from any part of the country travelling on the Delhi Metro’s Airport Express Line to use their NCMC compliant RuPay debit card for seamless travel. The same card can also be used for shopping, banking transactions etc. across the country. DMRC’s system will be able to accept transactions from 23 banks through the RuPay debit card issued by them.

DMRC is planning to similarly upgrade its entire existing network by 2022 to facilitate the travel by this NCMC compliant Rupay Debit card. The existing Delhi Metro smart cards, tokens (currently not in use due to Covid 19 pandemic), QR Codes, etc., will also continue to remain in use. In addition, all upcoming corridors of Phase-IV will also be built with NCMC compliant Automatic Fare Collection (AFC) system at the stations.

As per the latest decision in the fight against Corona Virus it has been decided that METRO SERVICE WILL REMAIN COMPLETELY CLOSED TILL 31ST MARCH 2020.

The move is aimed at controlling the spread of corona virus by ensuring social distancing and encouraging people to stay at home for the time being.

The Delhi Metro system will however continue to be powered for essential internal operational maintenance activities during this duration and security of the system will continue to be taken care of by CISF.

QR-CODE BASED MOBILE TICKETING FACILITY TO START ON AIRPORT LINE FROM THIS SUNDAY

The Delhi Metro will be introducing QR code based ticketing facility for travel on Airport Express Line from Sunday i.e, 16th September 2018. With the introduction of this facility, commuter’s using Delhi Metro’s Airport Express Line will be able to use the QR Code generated on their smart phones instead of smart cards or tokens to travel.

This system of QR code based ticketing through smart phones will enable passengers to purchase tickets using ‘Ridlr App’ without physically coming to the Metro station. The process to generate QR Code is as given below: -

Download the Ridlr application from playstore (available on both android & IOS platforms) and register into the App with your valid credentials including mobile no. and email- id.

Proceed to buy a QR ticket by selecting the origin station and destination station.

Select no. of passengers (Maximum 6 at a time). App will display the fare for the selected journey.

Pay the fare using internet banking/credit/debit card. User will receive a notification.

App will display the QR code for the journey. User can tap the QR enabled AFC entry gates of the Metro stations on Airport Line. The AFC gate will open and user can commence journey

At the exit, user needs to tap the QR Code again at the exit AFC gate. The gates will open and the journey will conclude.All six Metro stations of Airport Express Line have been provided with a set of two AFC gates each for entry and exit through QR enabled system

Delhi Metro | DMRC plans to start clock room and porter facility at some metro stations

New Delhi: In a bid to provide better service to the commuters at Delhi Metro network, the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) is likely to introduce the service of cloak room and porter services rights inside some select metro stations.

The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation has floated a tender in this regard recently. With this step, the corporation will generate not only extra revenue, but also provide employment to others.

“Cloak room services” is where the metro passengers can keep their luggage for a specific period of time, while the “porter services” means a person employed to carry the luggage of passengers from one place to another within metro station premises.

This service is likely to be introduced at selected metro stations situated near at the Indira Gandhi International Airport and railway stations in the Delhi-NCR.

“There are numbers of commuters who travel from other states to the capital via railway or by flights on a short notice and they don’t wish to carry their luggage with them. In such cases, the passengers can keep their goods for safe keeping at the metro station cloak rooms and lockers.

“As part of turning the Delhi Metro network into a travelers’ hub and to add more customer-centric services, a cloakroom facility will be introduced soon.

There are many passengers who come from others states such as Haryana, Rajasthan, Punjab, Uttar Pradesh and Uttrakhand and have flights or trains at late hours.

“These commuters coming various places outside Delhi can avail this facility at respective Metro stations and get rid of their luggage,” said a metro official on the condition of anonymity.

The corporation has since completed the construction of phase-1, phase-2 network comprising of 158 stations and a network of around 213 km and has already put them under operation and the phase 3 of the Delhi Metro system is fast nearing completion. As of today, DMRC network comprises of seven operational lines.

HIGHLIGHTS OF FARE REVISION OF DELHI METRO

1. The Government of India had set up the 4th Fare Fixation Committee in May-2016 to recommend the fares of Delhi Metro as per the provisions of Delhi Metro Rail (Operation & Maintenance) Act, 2002. The FFC is a three member committee chaired by an existing and/or a retired judge of High Court and one representative each at the level of Additional Secretary from the Central Government & the State Government.

2. The members of the 4th FFC were as under:

o Justice M. L. Mehta, retired Judge of the High Court of Delhi as Chairman.

o Shri K. K. Sharma, the then Chief Secretary, GNCTD.

o Shri Durga Shanker Mishra (Additional Secretary, Ministry of Urban Development).

3. The necessity of revision in fares was on account of increase in the cost of inputs viz. the staff costs, the cost of energy and the cost of repair & maintenance. Since constitution of the 3rd FFC, there has been increase in the rate of industrial DA by 95.5% (from 16.90% to 112.40%), rate of Central DA by 103% (from 22% to 125%) and average increase in the rate of minimum wages by 156.2%. The last fare revision took place in 2009 and the 4th FFC was set up after almost 07 years.

4. The highlights of the revised fares are as under:

o The fare revision will be implemented in two phases i.e. Phase-I that will be implemented with effect from 10th May 2017 and Phase-II that will be implemented from 1st October, 2017. There will be a total of six fare slabs as against the existing 15 fare slabs with a minimum fare of Rs.10 and a maximum fare of Rs.50 in the 1st Phase. The existing and revised fares are as under:

o With a view to encourage ridership on Sundays and National Holidays (26th January, 15th August and 2nd October) special discounted fares have been approved. These are as under:

o SPECIAL DISCOUNT ON FARES FOR SMART CARD USERS

§ 10% discount to be continued on every journey made by the passengers using Smart Card.

§ To avoid overcrowding during peak hours, an additional 10% discount will be given to the passengers using Smart Card who exit from metro system during off peak hours based on the following time zones:

§ Start of revenue services to 08:00 AM.

§ From 12.00 Noon to 05.00 PM.

§ From 09:00 PM to closing of revenue service

The above discount is applicable from Monday to Saturday (weekdays) only. Thus, in all a passenger may avail 20% discount on smart card while travelling during the off-peak time.

§ OTHER FEATURES

§ Value of Tourist Card for 1 day and 3 days validity shall be Rs. 200/- and Rs. 500/- respectively including security deposit of Rs. 50/-.

§ There shall be no change in the fares of Airport Express Line.

§ BACKGROUND

§ This is fourth time since the beginning of its operations in 2002 that Delhi Metro is revising its fares. When Delhi Metro started operations on 25th December 2002, the minimum fare was Rs. 4 and maximum was Rs. 8.

§ The 1st fare fixation committee was constituted in December 2003 and revised fares were adopted w.e.f March 31, 2004 (after a gap of one year and three months) with minimum fare of Rs. 6 and maximum Rs. 15.

§ The fares recommended by the 2nd fare fixation committee were made effective form 31st December 2005 (after a gap of one year and nine months) with minimum fare of Rs. 6 and maximum Rs. 22.

§ The 3rd fare fixation committee was constituted in June 2009 and fares were made effective from November 13, 2009 after a gap of 4 years (approx) with minimum fare of Rs. 8 and maximum Rs. 30.

Delhi Metro Rail Corporation has decided to offer discount on metro fares tomorrow on the occasion of 71st Independence Day of India. This will be first time a discount has been offered by DMRC to mark the national holiday.

The fare fixation committee had proposed to offer discounts on national holidays - Independence Day, Republic Day and Gandhi Jayanti. This proposal was approved by the Metro board. DMRC had hiked metro fares recently on May 10, 2017, after keeping them unchanged for eight long years.

Decrease in fares

Discounts up to 50 per cent will be offered across various categories based on distance travelled. Travellers going covering five to twelve kilometres will be most to benefit from the discount. While Rs 20 is charged for this distance on normal days, metro travellers will have to pay only Rs 10 for the same distance tomorrow. Similarly, passengers going two to five kilometres, who usually pay Rs 15, will also have to pay Rs 10.

For going 12 to 12 kilometres, passengers will have to pay Rs 20 instead of Rs 30, for 21 to 32 kilometres, the fare will be Rs 30 as against Rs 40. For travelling 32 kilometres or more, passengers will have to pay Rs 40 and not Rs 50.

Moreover, smart card holders will continue to enjoy the 10 per cent reduction in fares they enjoyed earlier.

Metro parking lots to remain closed

The metro parking lots will remain closed on Independence Day, though, causing problems for vehicle owners who might be looking forward to drive to the metro stations.

Parking spots at metro stations were closed from 6:00 am on Monday due to security reasons. This arrangement will remain in place till 2:00 pm tomorrow that is Independence Day.

Dhansa Bus Stand in the National Capital will be connected by Delhi Metro in the next three years. Government of India has approved the 1.18 km Under Ground metro extension from Najafgarh to Dhansa Bus Stand at a cost of Rs.565 cr. This extension is scheduled for completion by Delhi Metro Rail Corporation by 2020.

Of the total cost of the project,central government will bear Rs.107 cr in the form of 50% Equity (Rs.75.50 cr) and Subordinate Debt. Japanese International Cooperation Agency (JICA) will provide Rs.323 cr while the rest will be borne by the Government of National Capital Territory of Delhi including Equity (Rs.75.50 cr) and Subordinate Debt.

Najafgarh –Dhansa Bus Stand Metro Extension is estimated to serve the travel needs of an additional 10,000 passengers per day catering to the needs of people of Nangloi, Dhansa, Bahadurgarh and the adjoining areas.

As per 2016 estimates, 3.61 lakh vehicle trips are generated at Najafgarh. Since the area between Najafgarh and Dhansa is densely populated with substantial built up areas, extension to Dhansa Bus Stand has been made Under Ground.

The 4.50 km Dwarka – Najafgarh Metro Section, approved in September, 2012 is likely to be completed by December this year.

Work on Najafgarh-Dhansa Bus Stand extension is likely to start in July this year since the line alignment survey has already been completed and tenders called for.

New Delhi, May 8 (IANS) Delhi Metro on Monday hiked its fare by up to 66 per cent, with the maximum fare going up to Rs 50 from the earlier Rs 30.

Delhi Metro Rail Corp (DMRC) spokesperson Anuj Dayal told the media that the minimum fare – applicable for a distance of up to two kilometres – had been raised from Rs 8 to Rs 10.

The new fare structure has been divided into six slabs: Rs 10 (0-2 km), Rs 15 (2-5 km), Rs 20 (5-12 km), Rs 30 (12-21 km), Rs 40 (21-32 km) and Rs 50 (beyond 32 km).

“This is the first phase of fare hike to be implemented from May 10,” Dayal said. “The second phase will be implemented from October.”

DMRC Director K.K. Saberwal said the revision was necessary on account of increase in the input cost – staff salaries, cost of energy, repair and maintenance.

Dayal added that special discounts would be given to commuters on Sundays and national holidays.

Apart from that, 10 percent discount during non-peak hours would also be given. “This is to ensure that load during peak hours and non-peak hours is even.”

NEW DELHI: Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) may soon introduce some serious upgrades to the existing payment system used by the public transport corporation that maintains Delhi Metro. These new features are the result of new licenses issued by Reserve Bank of India.

RBI issued a license to DMRC to issue mass transit prepaid payment instrument (PPI). This comes right after RBI issued wallet license to the corporation that will enable it to run a full e-wallet system.

One interesting thing to note is that RBI issued the license back last month with validity up to 31 March 2022. DMRC may be working on laying out the groundwork for the new system in the meantime.

According to the report, the new prepaid instruments issued by the DMRC under the new license will allow the users to load Rs 2,000 in their wallets with a minimum validity for up to six months from the date of the recharge.

Despite all the good that this new system is trying to achieve, some things like the inability to cash-out or refund the wallets works against the commuters. This comes weeks after the decision that Delhi Metro commuters can no longer get refund on its Smartcards.

However, the most interesting usage scenario highlighted by the company comprises of using the Delhi Metro e-wallet to buy food at the restaurants or stalls in the metro stations. One thing to note is that there is no official statement by DMRC or Government of Delhi about the new system at the time of writing.

Kundli to be connected with Delhi Metro Rail soon: Haryana Govt

NEW DELHI: The Haryana government today said Kundli in Sonipat district will be connected with the Metro rail service soon.

The project for connecting Kundli with metro rail was approved in the 22nd meeting of the Haryana Mass Rapid Transport Corporation that was chaired by Chief Secretary D S Dhesi, an official release said here.

The metro rail line will be extended from Narela in Delhi to Kundli, covering a distance of about 4.86 km, it said.

Apart from this, other under-construction metro rail projects were also reviewed in the meeting, the release said.

These included the Sikanderpur to Gurgaon Sector 56, YMCA Faridabad to Ballabhgarh and Mundka to Bahadurgarh projects.

The latter two are slated to be completed by December this year, it said.

The services at Metro stations will be resumed only after getting clearance from Delhi Police

In a major decision, the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) will suspend its train services to and from all stations outside Delhi from 11.30 pm on Sunday.

This development comes in the wake of the proposed Jat agitation on March 20.

As directed by Delhi Police authorities, Metro services will not be available at all Metro Stations outside Delhi (NCR stations) i.e. on Line -2 (Guru Dronacharya to Huda City Centre) on Line-3 and 4 (Kaushambi to Vaishali and Noida Sector-15 to Noida City Center) and on Line-6 (Sarai to Escotrs Mujesar) from March 19, 11.30 pm onwards till further instructions from the police authorities.

Moreover, following metro stations in Delhi region will also remain closed for public from 8:00 pm onwards on Match 19 till further directions - to Rajiv Chowk, Patel Chowk, Central Secretariat, Udyog Bhawan, Lok Kalyan Marg, Janpath, Mandi House, Barakhamba Road, RK Ashram Marg, Pragati Maidan, Khan Market and Shivaji Stadium.

However, interchange facility will be available at all interchange stations.

The services at all these Metro stations will be resumed only after getting clearance from the Delhi Police.

Unhappy with the authorities over their demands and grievances being unaddressed, Jat protesters on Wednesday announced non-cooperation after Holi (March 13) and are taking their stir to Delhi from tomorrow.

They gave a call for the march to besiege Parliament and to hold dharnas on the Delhi border, blocking all highways, to press for their demands for reservation.

The Haryana Assembly on Wednesday discussed the ongoing Jat agitation.

Indian National Lok Dal (INLD) leader Abhay Singh Chautala, who moved an adjournment motion during the Budget session, said the Congress and the BJP were trying to play politics on reservation in government jobs and educational institutions to the Jats of Haryana.

Chautala said the state's BJP government had failed to implement the community's demands even after agreeing to them last year.

Apart from reservation, the Jats are demanding jobs to the next of kin of those killed in violence in the agitation last year, compensation to those injured, withdrawal of cases against them and action against officers who ordered action against the Jats.

Violence during the Jat agitation, in February 2016, claimed the lives of 30 people and injured around 200 people. Government and private property worth hundreds of crores of rupees was damaged.

New Delhi: The 3.9-km Metro link between Delhi’s Kalindi Kunj and Noida’s Botanical Garden is on track to open next month. This, following with the model code of conduct ceasing to be effective.

While the Noida Authority has written to the chief commissioner of railway safety (CCRS) — working under the administrative control of the ministry of civil aviation — to expedite inspections, the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) is leaving no stone unturned in commissioning the track after completing successful trials.

According to DMRC officials, rigorous trials are being undertaken for the Metro link. During trials, the interface of the Metro train, which will later be driverless, is being checked to ensure that there is no physical infringement on civil infrastructure during the movement of the train on the track. Testing of various subsystems of coaches is also being done. “Our new UTO (Unattended Train Operations)-enabled trains will operate on this corridor,” said Anuj Dayal, executive director, corporate communications, DMRC.

Dayal said that the new trains, with extremely high levels of automation, were undergoing meticulous trials between these stations to ensure that they are ready for smooth operations after the commissioning of the corridor. “Initially, train operators will run the trains, but gradually, driverless operations (on the UTO mode) will be possible,” Dayal said.

According to officials, normally for trains operated by drivers, it takes about two months for trials to be completed, but with the new technology, trials along this route are expected to be completed in about five months. Currently, synchronisation of coaches with signalling and track circuiting is being carried out.

The response of the train at different speeds, braking of the train and the interconnection with the operations control centre (OCC) is also being monitored. The behaviour of the track system and the over head electrification (OHE) is also being checked repeatedly. Trials for this link started at the end of October 2016. Once trials are completed, the CCRS will carry out an inspection of the track, before giving the green light for it to roll, officials said.

Delhi Metro News :DMRC installs PSD to avoid suicides in Phase-III metro stations

New Delhi: There were 50 cases of suicide reported in Delhi Metro premises last year, of which 18 were on the HUDA City Centre-Samaypur Badli line.

With Phase-III corridors scheduled to open soon and the decision to install platform screen doors (PSD) at all stations underway, authorities hope that the number will come down drastically. These 1.5m-long doors will not be of full length like the ones on Airport Express line but will ensure that the access to the track is completely cut off — even on elevated stations.

Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) spokesman Anuj Dayal said, “The primary reason for the PSDs is safety. Only controlled access will be possible through the platform-end doors that will be only allowed to Delhi Metro staff.”

These doors will cover the entire 140m-long platform. Also, the platform doors will open before the train’s. While closing, the train doors will close first.

These doors can withstand a significant amount of weight. “It can take up to 2.8 kilonewton of weight and can withstand mass of 280 kg per metre,” added an official. This would include factors like impact or shock as well as wind speed.

The doors, which are tamper proof and fire resistant, will be put up at all 59 stations on the two new corridors. It will also help in crowd control, the official added.

The distance between the edge of the platform and the PSD is 25mm, while the gap between the train door and the PSD is 300mm.

The PSDs on line 7 and 8 will be different from the ones on Yellow line. While the Yellow line (HUDA City Centre-Samaypur Badli) has 1.7m-long doors — an international norm — on line 7 (Majlis Park-Shiv Vihar) and line 8 (Janakpuri west-Botanical Garden) these are 1.5m-long. The reason being the shorter height of Indians as compared to other nations, the official said.

“The full length doors are 2.2m-long. The ones being installed on line 2 are also higher than those on line 7 and 8. The height of 1.5m is sufficient for the purpose,” the official added. The only other line to have PSDs is the Airport Express line.

Delhi Metro to bring in World’s first Transit Rating system

NEW DELHI: The world’s first transit rating system, which caters exclusively to metro networks, was unveiled at the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation’s head office here on Wednesday.

With this, the Metro Bhawan has also become the first building in the country to achieve a certification by the Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED).

The DMRC, along with the US Green Building Council (USGBC) and the Green Business Certification Inc. (GBCI), announced the LEED for transit rating system, designed specifically to address the needs of transit systems around the world.

“Delhi Metro Rail Corporation will be the first metro network in the world to pursue the pilot – LEED v4 O+M: Transit – for its stations in Delhi-NCR. Also, the Metro Bhawan is the first building to pursue and achieve LEED certification,” said a statement released by the DMRC.

LEED is an international certification, which provides a framework to building owners and operators for identifying and implementing practical green building solutions. It was introduced for transit purposes after a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed between the DMRC, the USGBC and the GBCI in October 2015.

To assess the functioning of metro stations, an ‘arc performance platform’ has been released, which will track performance based on five categories — energy, water, waste, transportation, and human experience.

Developed with inputs from the DMRC, the new system will allow operational transit facilities to benchmark efficiencies and demonstrate continual improvement.

Amitabh Kant, CEO of NITI Aayog, said, “LEED v4 is based on actual performance parameters. The DMRC’s initiative will also motivate other metros to take environment-friendly measures and achieve this certification.”

DMRC: Metro Services in Yellow Line Poor run with a Power Supply Snag

New Delhi: In continuation of its recent poor run, the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation faltered yet again today with a power supply snag hitting the Yellow Line, delaying train movement along the North-South corridor.

Train services were hit from around 12 PM to 12.40 PM due to failure of power supply from Delhi Transco (DTL) to DMRC’s substations located at Kashmere Gate and Jahangirpuri, leading to tripping of Over Head Electrification (OHE) two to three times, a Delhi Metro official said.

Services were affected between Central Secretariat and Samaypur Badli stations of the corridor. However, the cascading effect could be felt along the entire line due to bunching effect, he said.

On the other hand, interlocking issue between Jahangirpuri and Model Town stations hindered the setting of routes and providing target speed to trains, thereby affecting the services further.

“Two trains were short looped from Viswavidyalaya to HUDA City Centre in this period to minimise the impact on rest of the section,” the official said.

The 48-km-long Yellow Line (line 2), one of the busiest, connects north Delhi’s Samaypur Badli to Huda City Centre of Gurgaon passing through the walled city and south Delhi.

A spate of glitches have hit DMRC’s Blue Line in the recent past, prompting the Centre to seek a detailed report on the same.
