Introducing QR-Code Based Ticketing Through Mobile Phones

QR-CODE BASED MOBILE TICKETING FACILITY TO START ON AIRPORT LINE FROM THIS SUNDAY
The Delhi Metro will be introducing QR code based ticketing facility for travel on Airport Express Line from Sunday i.e, 16th September 2018. With the introduction of this facility, commuter’s using Delhi Metro’s Airport Express Line will be able to use the QR Code generated on their smart phones instead of smart cards or tokens to travel.
This system of QR code based ticketing through smart phones will enable passengers to purchase tickets using ‘Ridlr App’ without physically coming to the Metro station. The process to generate QR Code is as given below: -
Download the Ridlr application from playstore (available on both android & IOS platforms) and register into the App with your valid credentials including mobile no. and email- id.
Proceed to buy a QR ticket by selecting the origin station and destination station.
Select no. of passengers (Maximum 6 at a time). App will display the fare for the selected journey.
Pay the fare using internet banking/credit/debit card. User will receive a notification.
App will display the QR code for the journey. User can tap the QR enabled AFC entry gates of the Metro stations on Airport Line. The AFC gate will open and user can commence journey
At the exit, user needs to tap the QR Code again at the exit AFC gate. The gates will open and the journey will conclude.All six Metro stations of Airport Express Line have been provided with a set of two AFC gates each for entry and exit through QR enabled system

Delhi Metro to introduce 10 trip travel card on the airport express line from 1st October 2016

The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) is introducing a new product i.e, a 10 Trip (10-T) travel card facility for its commuters of the Airport Express Line from 1st October 2016. This is aimed at facilitating those commuters who would like to avail limited travel trips. Such passengers can avail a maximum of 10 trips using this card to travel on the Airport Express Line. 

The validity of the 10 Trip Card will be for 15 days and the facility will be applicable on trial for three months. This facility will be economical and also help save time for the occasional commuters of the Airport Express Line. 

This card is in addition to the already available 30 trips and 45 trips travel card on the Express Line and used mostly by its regular commuters. Both these trip cards come with a validity of 30 days. 

The detailed fare structure for the 10 T Card from station to station on the Airport Express Line is as follows:

The Trip Cards of Airport Express Line are economical for commuters as they provide cheaper travel in the range of 10% to 55% depending on the number of stations travelled vis a vis those who use single journey token for their travel. For example, a token for a trip from New Delhi to Shivaji Stadium would cost a passenger Rs. 20/- whereas the same trip performed by a passenger having a 45 trip card would cost only (approx.) Rs. 9/-, Rs. 12/- with 30 trip card and Rs. 15 with 10 trip card. (More details on Token/Trip Cards available at www.delhimetrorail.com). 

This is one of the many measures that the Delhi Metro has taken in recent times to facilitate its passengers on the Airport Express Line. Recently, check in facility was introduced at both New Delhi and Shivaji Stadium Metro station for Air India and Jet Airways bound passengers. Ticket counters were also opened by Air India at these two stations. The frequency of the trains on this line was also increased to 10 minutes throughout the peak hours i.e. 08:00 AM to 08:00 PM.

As many as 33,61,911 commuters availed the metro on August 17. The Airport Express line had surpassed the daily ridership mark of 50,000 for the first time last Friday.

Providing the breakup, Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) said the ever busy Blue Line, that connects Dwaraka Sector-21 to Noida City Centre/Vaishali, recorded the highest ridership with 12,03,915 passengers.

Yellow line, another busy corridor, which stretches from North Delhi’s Samaypur Badali to Gurgaon’s HUDA City Centre recorded the second highest number of commuters at 11,68,410 while 4,56,427 people took the Red Line that connects Dilshad Garden to Rithala.

The previous year’s record of 3,204,756, recorded on August 28, was broken on August 8 this month when 3,269,413 commuters availed the metro services, fast expanding and emerging as the national capital’s lifeline in the absence of a robust public transport system.

DMRC’s network currently spans around 213 km. It ran 106 extra trips on Wednesday in anticipation of this expected increase in number of users due to the Raksha Bandhan festival, said an official statement.
It is already running extra trips on Saturdays and Sundays during the month to account for the annual trend of an extra rush around this period, due to festivities, commencement of colleges and the monsoons, metro official said.

High-speed rail link more feasible to KIA than metro: Sreedharan

Delays have cost Bengaluru a metro project that would have aided in the reduction of traffic congestion within the city, E. Sreedharan, principal adviser to Delhi Metro Rail Corporation Ltd., who is popularly known as the ‘metro man’, has said.

While the metro was conceptualised a decade ago when Bengaluru’s population was barely 60 lakh, the four-year delay will see the network criss-crossing a city with more than 1.1 crore inhabitants. “There should have been a larger network by now. The only way to tackle the traffic is to aggressively expand the metro network,” he told reporters on Saturday.

Mr. Sreedharan believes bus rapid transport system (BRTS) cannot be managed on the narrow roads of the city.

He was in the city to launch the State chapter of the not-for-profit organisation, Foundation for Restoration of National Values. Among the various objectives of the organisation, including police and administration reforms, is to “highlight” the delays in the implementation of the Phase I metro network by Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Ltd. (BMRCL). “The terrain or the geology of the city cannot be the excuse for cost escalation. There are rocks and difficult tunnelling conditions in most cities. Metros have more-or-less followed the scheduled inauguration elsewhere. There needs to be somebody to question things,” Mr. Sreedharan said.

With the Kempegowda International Airport being nearly 45 km from the city, Mr. Sreedharan said a high-speed rail link, which has been virtually scrapped by the government, was the more feasible option rather than extending the metro network. “Imagine the kind of land required for the metro project and the amount of time it would take to complete it. The best option would be high-speed rail, with check-in facility at the centre of the city itself,” he said.

The traffic snarls dogging arterial roads in the city can only be solved when a multimodal transportation system, including the long-pending commuter rail service, comes to fruition, said transportation experts Sanjeev V. Dyamannavar and Prakash Mandoth during the ‘Better Bengaluru’ web chat organised by The Hindu on Saturday.

When readers asked why the commuter rail project had not been approved even though numerous proposals have been raised so far, Mr. Dyamannavar, founder of the advocacy group Praja-RAAG, said it was due to lack of political will that the proposals were still awaiting the approval of the Railway Minister.

The recent gang-rape of a BPO worker in a private vehicle in the night showed the need to have a 24/7 suburban rail system here on the lines of Mumbai, he said.

Similarly, Mr. Mandoth said, “Commuter rail system is badly needed to decongest the city. It will help poor labourers, students and employees as it is cheap and a fast mode of transportation.”

The experts believed the system should be integrated along with the Bangalore Metropolitan Transport Corporation (BMTC) service, metro connections as well as regulated taxi systems to ensure that even the last-mile connectivity remains safe.

Apart from public transport, there needed to be an impetus to discourage use of private vehicles. “Car pooling can be encouraged by exempting toll on expressways if the car is travelling full … street parking should be made expensive, while more taxi stands should be built,” said Mr. Dyamannavar.

Airport connectivity

Until the ambitious Metro phase III that promises to connect the city and Kempegowda International Airport, comes up, Mr. Mandoth suggested that the large space underneath the trumpet flyover be developed as a transit railway stop. A station could be built along the railway line there, and from here commuters could access circuit-bus service to drop them at the airport, he said.

DMRC to reduce Delhi Airport Express Line fares by 50 percent

New Delhi: The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) on Tuesday announced that passenger fares on its Airport Express Line would be reduced by 50 percent.

The reduced fares will be implemented from September 18.

As per the revised fare structure, the minimum single journey fare on the corridor will be Rs.10 replacing the earlier minimum fare of Rs.20 and the maximum fare will be Rs. 60 against the earlier maximum fare of Rs.100.

The one-way journey from the New Delhi railway station to Dwarka Sector 21 using single journey token will now cost Rs.60.

DMRC took over the operations of the Airport link, also known as the Orange Line, in July 2013 after Reliance Infrastructure’s subsidiary Delhi Airport Metro Express Private Ltd (DAMEPL) terminated its concessionaire agreement.
