Central Railway to come up with Concrete Plan for Friday Meet on Parel Terminus

Central Railway to come up with Concrete Plan for Friday Meet on Parel Terminus

Mumbai: The Central Railway (CR) has dusted off blueprints for Parel Terminus after the project was shelved since officials from different departments had been unable to come to an understanding.

Sources have said that CR will finally be come up with a concrete plan that will be presented to Union railway minister Suresh Prabhu and Railway Board officials this Friday in Delhi.

Mr.Prabhu called this meeting for all 16 zones of the India Railways to review works as well as get an update about future plans.

The Rs 90-crore Parel Terminus has been weaved into the holistic project of the Central Railway’s fifth and sixth lines that will separate the line for outstation / Mail Express trains from local trains and costs around a total Rs.900 crore in total.

Officials have said that Parel Terminus in itself is a mini-project in a bigger project and different aspects have been added to it in the past six months like the one-kilometre-long foot overbridge that is to be built in the middle of the platform, joining the bridge already constructed at the Kalyan-end and the Western Railway’s Elphinstone Road bridge, since many commuters switch over lines there.

“The Parel Terminus is one of the major projects that will be presented to the railway minister on Friday since the work involved in it will be our answer to more and better services on the mainline,” said an official, on the condition of anonymity.

The Parel Terminus provides the CR with the ability to store or park more trains closer to CST.

It will also afford the widening of platforms and enabling the running of more services to Parel from far off suburbs since it has become a commercial hub with many corporate offices located right outside the station.
