MMTS Passengers can avail benefits of Extended Season Tickets and Additional Bonus on Cash-less Purchases

All such season tickets are eligible for extending the tenure with effect from 23rd June 2021 in proportion to the number of days lost i.e., in terms of the remaining tenure of the valid season tickets As such, passengers holding valid Season tickets (purchased either on App or at booking counters) should approach the booking counters at MMTS / Sub-urban stations to validate and extend their existing season tickets.

All avenues available for purchasing tickets – Extra benefits to go cash-less

Apart from the option of purchasing tickets at the Booking counters, all cash-less modes of purchasing MMTS tickets will be functional for the MMTS travelers. Shri. Gajanan Mallya, General Manager, South Central Railway appealed to all MMTS rail users to avail both the facilities of extension of season tickets as well as Cash-less ticketing options to make their journey safer and hassle-free. Why Differenet Levels in Metro Train Stations -A Guide

Why Differenet Levels in Metro Train Stations -A Guide

Street Level
This is the first level where passengers may park their vehicles and view the local area map. Please ensure that you place your feet firmly on the escalator while stepping on it. Please do not manually climb the stairs while the escalator is operational to avoid accidents. Keep to your left and hold the hand-rail firmly to maintain balance. In case you are not comfortable using the escalator, you may use staircase. If you are travelling with children, please hold their hands when using the escalator.
Concourse Level
Next, the passengers will move into the Concourse level where it is segregated by the Automatic Fare Collection (AFC) gates into non-paid and paid sections. AFC gates allow easy wheelchair access too. Wheelchairs will be available in all Metro stations.
You can buy tokens and smart cards for travelling at the ticketing office or at Ticket Vending Machines (TVMs). Retail outlets and other facilities like washrooms, ATMs, first aid, etc., will be available in this area.
For a seamless travel experience, we recommend passengers to travel using a smart card that can be purchased online using TSavaari App or from the ticketing office at any of our stations. Ticket Vending Machines (TVMs) in non- paid area and Automatic Vending Machines (AVMs) in the paid area may be used to add money to your smart card. Audio instructions will guide you about the smart card top up process.
It is our aim to provide a comfortable journey to our passengers. Our stations are well equipped with information and signage to guide you in and out of the Metro station. Tactile floor signage will assist visually impaired passengers to navigate through the station. Information about the train network, station facilities, passenger do’s and don’ts, entry and exit signage and local area maps are available at all Metro stations.
Platform Level
This is where passengers board the train. We have designed the platforms to facilitate differently-abled and elderly passengers so that they may on-board and off-board the train with ease. Passenger information display boards at the concourse and platform level provide real time information to passengers. Audio announcements inform passengers about train arrivals and delays or disruptions in the train network.
We have four Help-Points at all Metro platforms which enable passengers to contact the Station Controller in case of an emergency. The Emergency Evacuation Plan (EEP) signage will assist passengers during an emergency. Please contact our station staff for any assistance.
Metro train platforms are designed keeping in mind the safety and security of our passengers. A yellow line on the floor of the platform will alert you to maintain a safe gap from train tracks, when the train has not arrived at the platform. Passengers are requested to form a queue and let the passengers inside the train off board before on boarding the train.

Soon, Insert Coins and Cash Into Machines to Get Train Tickets

Soon, Insert Coins and Cash Into Machines to Get Train Tickets

CHENNAI: Suburban stations in Chennai will soon get Automatic Ticket Vending Machines (ATVM) where commuters can insert Rs 5 and Rs 10 coins and get tickets within 60 seconds.

This is a part of the Railway Ministry’s plan to reduce the time spent by customers standing in serpentine queues to procure tickets at station counters. This is the second such scheme for commuters in the Chennai suburban train network, after the mobile-ticketing facility was introduced earlier this year.

An official circular from the Railway Board stated that platform and unreserved tickets can be procured from the Cash-Coin and Smart Card operated Ticket Vending Machines (CoTVM), which will be unmanned. Officials of the Madras Division of Southern Railway indicated that the headquarters had been notified and the machines would be in place by next month. “We have zeroed in on a few locations. Initially, there might be a provision for only first-class tickets as we would be trying out the machines on a pilot basis,” said an official.

As per the official procedure, the CoTVM will have slots to accept Rs 5 and Rs 10 coins as well as notes of denomination from Rs 5 to Rs 1,000. Instructions will be displayed on the machine to indicate which notes and coins would be accepted.

The passenger would have to submit the exact ticket fare in notes and coins inside the machine within 60 seconds. In case the entire amount has not been inserted within the stipulated time, the transaction will be cancelled and the amount will be returned.

No additional booking charge will be taken for tickets bought from the CoTVM. The printed ticket will have all the details similar to those obtained from the counter.  Season tickets, platform tickets, second-class tickets for maximum of four passengers and first-class ticket for one passenger can be bought from the CoTVM, said the official circular. The machines would also have a provision for booking tickets using smart cards, which can be procured only from specific railway counters.

The CoTVM is likely to attract the majority of the one million daily commuters, who don’t have access to smartphones and continue to spend at least 10 minutes in the queues at ticket counters during peak hours. “CoTVM corrects one major flaw of the mobile-ticketing system. Season tickets can’t be procured through m-ticketing. They form around 60 per cent of the daily commuters. CoTVM will offer them that facility,” an official stated.

South Western Railway to Set Up Ticket Vending Machines

BENGALURU:  Automatic ticket vending machines (ATVM), station navigation kiosks and medical camps were among a slew of initiatives taken by South Western Railway (SWR) as part of the customer facilitation fortnight, an official said on Tuesday.

"SWR is planning to install ATVMs in three months time at a cost of Rs.3.5 crore. 58 of these machines will be installed in Bengaluru," said General Manager PK Saxena.

An exclusive dormitory to serve female passengers has been set up at Bengaluru City Station where the guarded area will offer a bed, table, chair and locker for women passengers in transit, he said.

In a measure to further enhance security, the railway ministry has agreed to depute 300 more Railway Police Force (RPF) personnel in the zone, he said.

Railway zone officials visited various stations and interacted with nearly 1,000 passengers as part of the Customer Facilitation Fortnight which began May 26.

"The main complaint received from passengers is about toilets and lack of water in toilets. Inspectors will check this problem," said Mr Saxena.

He also said that the ministry has to clarify about the prospect of launching suburban train services in Bengaluru. "I cannot talk about multi-million dollar projects, the information has to come from the railway ministry," added Mr Saxena.

He also said that the is no plan to launch a linkage to the international airport at Devanahalli like the Airport Metro in Delhi.

On the status of the high speed train from Chennai to Mysuru, Mr Saxena said: "The Chinese delegation is yet to submit the report. The proposed high speed line involves a lot of land acquisition, so many buildings have to be broken and at a very high cost."

Central Railway ropes in 100 Apprentices to facilitate Ticket Sales at ATVMs

Central Railway ropes in 100 Apprentices to facilitate Ticket Sales at ATVMs

In June, ATVMs contributed to 30 per cent sales of tickets, which has fallen to 18 per cent in July.  There are a total of 144 retired railway employees who continue to sell tickets as facilitators
Unable to find any takers among retired government employees for selling tickets through Automatic Ticket Vending Machines (ATVM), the Central Railway (CR) has involved apprentices to act as facilitators. Around 100 apprentices, who recently joined the railways to train in different departments, have been given cards to sell tickets through ATVMs.

“There was hardly any response from the ex-servicemen. However, to fill up the gap created, we have involved apprentices,” said Narendra Patil, Chief Public Relations Officer, CR. Due to a rapid decline in sale of tickets, on July 1, CR invited applications from retired government employees of other services to become facilitators.

The attempts to revive the sale of tickets through facilitators are being made due to a rapid decline in contribution of ATVMs to overall ticketing. In June, ATVMs contributed to 30 per cent sales of tickets, which has fallen to 18 per cent in July.

Following a change in rules by the Railway Board in June this year, CR disallowed 604 of its 704 facilitators from selling tickets to non- smart card users, resulting in a sharp decline in the sale of tickets through ATVMs. Earlier, railway staff, in their non-duty hours, were allowed to sell tickets as facilitators. They contributed to over 80 per cent sales of tickets through ATVMs.

However, after the change in rules only retired railway staff were allowed to sell tickets. There are a total of 144 retired railway employees who continue to sell tickets as facilitators.

The shift of commuters from ATVMs has been noted at Unreserved Ticketing System (UTS) or booking windows, which contributed to 63 per cent to ticketing last month, while the Jansadharan Ticket Booking Sevaks (JTBS) contributed 14 per cent to ticketing. The sale of tickets through coupon booklets stood at five per cent last month
