Buying railway ticket made easy
Divisional Railway Manager Ashok Kumar inaugurated eight Automatic Ticket Vending Machines (ATVMs) at Vijayawada station on Wednesday. The ATVMs are meant for purchase of unreserved tickets and platform tickets from Vijayawada.
Four ATVMs have been installed at main booking office and two each at the 2nd east entrance and south entrance. Three ATVMS each have been launched at Nellore, Tenali and Rajahmundry stations on the same day.
Speaking to the media, Mr. Ashok Kumar said the passengers need to buy Smart Cards costing Rs. 50 over the counters and use them for purchasing the tickets. The Smart Cards would be valid throughout South Central Railway for a year from the date of purchase, after which they should be recharged at booking counters.
Recharges could be made up to Rs. 5,000 and a bonus of five per cent would be given on sums exceeding Rs 100. The Smart Cards have to be kept on the card readers provided on the machines, select the trains, routes, destinations on the map displayed on the touch screen, number of passengers (each Smart Card allows four adults and two children) and class of travel.
Mr. Ashok Kumar said the Ministry of Railways had sanctioned A.P Express from Vijayawada to Delhi and it was likely to be operational soon.
The demand for running double-decker from Kacheguda to Vijayawada via Warangal every Monday was being looked into.
Guntur Staff Reporter adds: South Central Railway has decided to introduce smart card based Automatic Ticket Vending Machines (ATVMs) at important stations across the Zone.
Divisional Railway Manager, Guntur, Vijay Sharma inaugurated four ATVMs at Guntur Railway station on Wednesday morning.
Mr. Sharma said that ATVMs would reduce the waiting time for passengers in queue.
Passengers would be allowed 5 per cent bonus on the fare of tickets purchased for their journeys.
