Indiam Railway:"Ladies Quota" preference given to unutilized Berths in Trains
Chennai: Good news ahead for women travelling in trains, as they need not worry of getting berths. The railways has decided to offer the unitilised berths in trains under the ladies quota first to women passengers on the waiting list and then to senior citizens.
Currently, the quota remains open for booking till the time of preparation of the reservation chart and after that, the unutilised quota is released to the wait-listed passengers, irrespective of their gender.
In a circular dated 15 February, the railway board has written to all the commercial managers, conveying its decision to 'modify the logic of utilising accommodation earmarked under the ladies quota'.
According to the circular, at the time of preparing the chart, the unutilised quota for female passengers will be released first to the wait-listed female passengers, followed by senior citizens.
'If there are no such passengers and the berths are left vacant, the on-board ticket checking staff shall be authorised to allot this accommodation to any other lady passenger/senior citizen...,' the circular stated.
Currently, in all trains with reserved sleeping accommodation, a combined quota of six lower berths per sleeper-class coach and three lower berths per AC 3-tier and AC 2-tier coach is available for senior citizens, female passengers of 45 years of age and above and pregnant women.
In Rajdhani, Duronto and fully air-conditioned or express trains, four lower berths are earmarked under this quota in AC 3-tier coaches.

Sub: Retention of Railway accommodation by Railway officers/staff on their deputation to Railway PSUs.
The instructions issued vide Board’s letter No.E(G)2008 QR 1-15 dated 18.12.2014 in regard to retention of Railway accommodation at their previous place of posting by officials on deputation to Railway PSUs have been reviewed.
Now in exercise of the powers to make reasonable relaxations in public interest for a class/group of employees, in all or any of the existing provisions regarding house allotment/retention, considering the shortage of houses/ accommodation in Delhi/NCR area, the Board have decided in the first phase Railway officers/staff in occupation of Railway accommodation in areas other than Delhi/NCR on their deputation to Railwa PSUs may be permitted to retain their Railway accomodation at the place of previous posting further beyond 30.06.2016 for a period up to 30.06.2019.
This issues with the concurrence of the Finance Directorate of the Ministry of Railways.

Railways Mega App 'HindRail'
From June, railways will answer all queries on one mega app
Come June, all train travel-related queries will be answered through one mega application, likely to be named HindRail, which incorporates in it most of the existing railways’ apps.
The Indian Railways is developing the new app to work as a full-fledged inquiry system providing information on arrivals, departures, delays, cancellations, platform number, running status and berth availability.
Besides, it will also offer booking of taxis, porter services, retiring rooms, hotels, tour packages, e-catering and other travel-related needs.
The Railways will offer all these services on a revenue-sharing model with the service providers.
Thus, the app will serve as a revenue-earning platform for the public transporter and is slated to have a business potential Rs 100 crore every year.
The Railways often finds itself flooded with complaints from passengers about not getting reliable information on train running status, especially when they run late.
Mohd Jamshed, Railway Board member (traffic), acknowledges that there are problems in disseminating accurate information on delays. But, he says, the new app will address all these issues.
“The new app will be launched in June and it will not only give you information, you can also track trains through it,” he said.
Currently, there are several apps operated by the Indian Railways which provide various kinds of services. These include the CMS App for complaint management system.
The National Train Enquiry System (NTES) app provides inquiry facility. There are apps for booking reserved and unreserved tickets. There is another app managed by the IRCTC for the e-catering services.
All these will be integrated in the proposed app.
Asked about the possible name for app, Jamshed said, “We have to give a suitable name for it but it has not been decided as yet.”
However, it is reliably learnt the name ‘HindRail’ is being considered for the new app among other suggested names such as MeriRail, ERail, MyRail and Rail Anubhuti.

Mumbai: Central Railway rolls out first train with modified seats
On December 25, the Central Railway (CR) rolled out the first train with modified seats that can supposedly accommodate 336 more commuters. However, this has also raised a new debate on technological improvements, which only can bring long-term relief to the 75 lakh daily commuters on Mumbai suburban rail network.
A certain section of railway officials feel the need to cut down the breadth and size of transformers that are installed inside motor coaches. Inside a 12-car local train, there are four motor coaches, each powering two trailer coaches. Sources said the motor coaches are like the heart of a train. “These motor coaches take up half the coach’s space. Technologically there is scope to lessen the width of the motor coach that would allow more people to be ferried,” said a senior CR official, on condition of anonymity.
The current format of trains with the modifications can accommodate 336 people more during peak hours. However, sources said that in case any changes are made in reducing the size of transformers — which they feel is possible — then it can easily provide accommodation for around 650 more people. The rail authorities also feel the need to improve the tonnage of wheels that carry these coaches. Presently, each coach can carry a weight of 16-20 tonnes. However, if the Railways bring in longitudinal seating — similar to Metro rail coaches — the carrying capacity of the wheels will have to go up to 25 tonnes. The CR authorities will also be modifying a second rake with 2+2 seating. Four coaches out of five coaches will be converted by the Matunga workshop by January or February 2016.

charges will be collected for the full day irrespective of period of stay.

case of the Retiring Room is occupied for more than one day, the charge from the subsequent day will be 25% more for each day.

vacating the room, please inform the In-Charge and hand over the keys.
5. Do
not cause any inconvenience to the other occupants of Retiring Room and
dormitories.
6.If
any loss/damage to railway property is noticed during your occupation before
vacating, you will be asked to compensate the loss/damage before vacating to
room.
