IRCTC Air launches Mobile App for Flight Ticket booking
New Delhi: The Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC), a subsidiary of the Railways, has developed a mobile app that will make booking of flight tickets simpler, speedier and with lowest fare too. To avail this service, flyers will have to download the IRCTC mobile app — IRCTC Air — from Google Playstore, and they have to just Swipe and Shuffle, Select and Book, an official statement said here today.
Besides, a passenger’s existing IRCTC login credentials are applicable on this app too, and there is no need to create a separate user name and password. The new app has been developed in-house, which enables booking of air tickets for travel within India and abroad at lowest prices.
A maximum of nine passengers can be booked on one PNR through net banking, for only Rs 10 per PNR.
As such, the IRCTC app provides the lowest fare available and it does not charge convenience or processing fee. On the other hand, air travel websites charge around Rs 150-250 per passenger per sector.
Cancellation charges of IRCTC are also very low, the statement said.
If tickets are booked through credit cards, the IRCTC app charges only 1.8 per cent of the total amount, which is less compared to other portals.
One can book domestic and international flight tickets on both LCCs (Low Cost Carriers) and FSCs (Full Service Carriers) besides, cancellation refund is done within 30 days.
According to IRCTC Chairman and Managing Director Dr A K Manocha, “Air tickets are already being booked on the company’s website. Now we have gone a step further to provide the facility on Android-based mobile sets. Our server is very fast, and tickets can be booked for both domestic and international destinations round the clock.”
“The mobile app, which has been developed in-house, is yet another testimony to the fact that we have been leveraging technology to provide passenger-friendly facilities. We have only recently forayed into outbound tourism, and the air ticketing segment has huge prospects and opportunities,” he added.
The mobile app is packed with an array of features. It stores a passenger’s previous flight searches and booking history that can easily be retrieved.
It also provides facility to book LTC flight tickets for holidays. There are multiple options to make payment. Installation of the app is easy and fast and once done, passengers can start air ticket booking straightaway.

The wait-listed passengers of AC First Class of Rajdhani trains would not have to pay any additional amount in case they decide to take an Air India flight.
Maharaja will soon come to help wait-listed passengers of Rajdhani trains as such travellers will be provided with the option to fly by Air India by paying little extra.
Air India and IRCTC have already entered into a pact for the proposed arrangement which is expected to be in place “within a week”, the carrier’s chief Ashwani Lohani told PTI.
Under the proposed arrangement, people who have unconfirmed tickets across classes on Rajdhani trains would have the choice of boarding an Air India flight, provided the airline has services in the particular train route chosen by the passenger.
Air India tickets would be offered to such passengers through IRCTC.
Lohani, who is Air India Chairman and Managing Director, said details are being worked out and the arrangement is expected to be in place “within a week”.

In the case of those booked on Rajdhani Second and Third AC classes, the passengers would have to pay up to Rs 2,000 per ticket as additional amount for flying Air India, Lohani said. “The details are being worked out and we hope to have this in place within a week,” Lohani, who himself is a Indian Railways Service (IRS) officer, said. The latest move is expected to help Air India in filling up more seats on its planes amid the carrier working on ways to turnaround its fortunes. Meanwhile, Air India is chalking out ambitious expansion plan to operate more number of smaller aircraft in various states as they look to increase regional air connectivity. In this regard, Air India’s wholly-owned subsidiary Air Alliance plans to increase the number of ATRs in its fleet to 35 in the next four years. Currently, Alliance Air has seven ATRs in its fleet, including two ATR-42 that are to be phased this fiscal. It expects to have at least 18 ATR-72 planes by March 2017. Lohani along with senior officials today held deliberations with representatives from at least 16 states, most of whom also expressed willingness to provide viability gap funding to the carrier. “Several state governments have asked Air India to look at launching virgin routes connecting different cities in their respective states,” Lohani said after the meeting.

Budget carrier Spicejet has hit the market again with a Rs 999 offer. SpiceJet launched the limited period sale offer today, which is offering tickets at a starting price of Rs 999 one way (taxes and fees not included) for travel on direct (non-stop) flights on its domestic network – this Spicejet offer is not valid for connecting, via, and international flights.
This sale is not available through the SpiceJet call centre or at airport ticket offices.

However, Spicejet has put many other routes’ tickets on sale at the next higher fare brackets of Rs 1,099, Rs 1,299, Rs 1,399, Rs 1,499, Rs 1,899, Rs 2,099 (not including taxes). Examples include Delhi-Jammu and Ahmedabad-Pune for Rs 1,099; Mumbai-Hyderabad and Delhi-Srinagar for Rs 1,299; Bengaluru-Pune and Chennai-Goa for Rs 1,399; Delhi-Ahmedabad and Mumbai-Bengaluru for Rs 1,499; Mumbai-Chennai and Mumbai-Kochi for Rs 1,899; Mumbai-Delhi and Kolkata-Port Blair for Rs 2,099; Mumbai-Amritsar and Delhi-Guwahati for Rs 2,499; Delhi-Goa and Kolkata-Bengaluru for Rs 2,599.

IRCTC launches Scheme offering Last-Minute Flight Tickets for those dropped of train waiting List
However, be aware that these are last minute flights and you will hardly get any refund if you don’t reach the airport on time
New Delhi: For once, it might be a good thing to be dropped from an Indian Railway waiting list at the last moment. IRCTC has launched a new scheme that lets customers who have been dropped from a waiting list avail a last minute flight ticket at a “competitive” fare.
This is how the scheme works, as per IRCTC:
First you will have to have a wait-listed train tickets booked three days prior to the date of journey and not confirmed at the time of chart preparation. Only people with such tickets are eligible for the offer.
Such passengers will get an e-mail from IRCTC showing eligibility. They can then log in to irctc.co.in and choose the passengers name from the train ticket list and click flight search.
Again, this will work only if flights are available to the said destination or another in the same sector. If there is a flight, passengers can choose the next day button and book.
The passengers will have to make full payments for the flights and the refund for the train booking will not be deducted from the same. That will be refunded as usual.
However, be aware that these are last minute flights and you will hardly get any refund if you don’t reach the airport on time.
