Central Railway will run 6 additional winter special trains from Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus Mumbai to Nagpur, Nagpur to Karmali and Karmali to Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus Mumbai to clear the extra rush of passengers as under:
1. Mumbai-Nagpur Superfast Special (one way)
01011 Special will leave Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus Mumbai o­n 22.12.2017 and 29.12.2017 at 00.20 hrs and arrive Nagpur at 14.20 hrs same day.
Halts: Dadar, Thane, Kalyan, Igatpuri, Nasik Road, Manmad, Jalgaon, Bhusaval, Malkapur, Shegaon, Akola, Murtizapur, Badnera, Dhamangaon, Pulgaon, Wardha
2. Nagpur-Karmali (Goa) Special (one way)
01196 special will leave Nagpur o­n 22.12.2017 and 29.12.2017 at 19.50 hrs and arrive Karmali at 21.30 hrs next day.

Composition of all three specials: 6 AC-2 Tier, 8 AC-3 Tier and 2 General second class cum guard’s brake van.
Reservation: Bookings for Special trains o­n special charges leaving Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus Mumbai and Nagpur will open from 18.12.2017. General second class coaches in the above trains will run as Unreserved coaches.

Luxe Mum-Goa train to hit the tracks from June

Come June, and you will be pampered with cuisi ne curated by celebrity chefs and individual LCD chefs and individual LCD screens while travelling on Tejas Express to Goa. The state-of-the-art premier train, which is set to begin operations in June, will also have tea and coffee vending machines, magazines and snack tables, said a senior railway ministry official.
The 20-coach Tejas Ex press will also have automatic doors and secured gangways for all coaches, a first for the Indian Railways. Currently in India, automatic doors are operational only on Metro trains and gangways--corridors between coaches--are not closed from the sides.

Besides choicest cuisine curated by celebrity chefs, there will be Wi-Fi facility on the train, which will have a world-class colour scheme.There will also be water-level indicators in bio-vacuum toilets, sensorised taps and hand driers. Each commuter will have hiher own individual LCD screens for entertainment, dissemination of passenger-related information and safety instructions, the official added.

Tejas coaches will also have integrated braille displays, digital destination boards, and electronic passenger reservation charts. Catering service will be part of Tejas fares like on Rajdhani and Shatabdi trains. Comprising executive class and chair cars, Tejas coaches will be equipped with 22 new features, including fire, smoke detection and suppression systems. The aim is to provide comfort to passengers in the inter-city journeys, he said.

After it is launched on the Mumbai-Goa route, the Tejas service, which was promised in the budget, is likely to be pressed on the Delhi-Chandigarh line. AGENCIES

Under the able guidance of Hon’ble Minister for Railways Shri Suresh Prabhu, Konkan Railway took various initiatives for the upliftment of Konkan Region by way of providing more and more passenger amenities as well as customer oriented services for freight users over Konkan Railway which has facilitated in making the journey more comfortable.  Amongst the measures initiated by the Hon’ble Minister includes capacity enhancement of KRCL line, route electrification, construction of additional eleven new stations etc. to name a few.
To boost the development of Konkan region and provide all kind of support to the people of Konkan in general, Hon’ble Minister for Railways has inaugurated following services in the function held today at Panaji (Goa) through remote :

1)   New Halt Station at Saundal between Vilavade – Rajapur Road Station.
Hon'ble Minister for Railways, Shri Suresh Prabhu inaugurated Saundal Halt Station in Ratnagiri District for the convenience of the residents in and around Saundal area.
Saundal village, Dist. Ratnagiri is between Vilavade (km. 250/718) and Rajapur Road (km 267/349)  stations of Konkan Railway.The  proposed Halt station caters to about 35000 local populace of surrounding villages like Oni, Pachal  Partawale, Solawade, Gotane, Yalawan, Ozar, Tulawade etc. The proposed station, Saundal (km: 260/420) is about 9.7 KM away from Vilavade and 6.9 KM away from  Rajapur Road station. Hon’ble MR conducted Bhoomi Poojan on 16.10.2015 at site. The work of proposed Halt station is completed with a total expenditure of ` 1.22 Crores. Konkan Railway express its sincere thanks to the residents of Saundal for their support & cooperation for timely completion of the work of new station. The location for  the proposed station is on embankment of 28 Mtr height with track  gradient of 1 in 260 in which  49500 CUM of Earthwork in embankment is involved.  Following passenger facilities are provided at Saundal Halt station.:
Rail Level Platform of 460 Mtr X 6 Mtr.
One Ticket booking office.
Modular shelter of size 6 Mtr x 5 Mtr each - 3 nos.
Drinking Water Pedestals – 3 nos.
One borewell with water supply arrangement.

2)   Goods siding at Thokur Station:
Thokur area is upcoming as an industrial hub.  Mangaluru Special Economic Zone (MSEZ) is being formed with an expectation of setting up of more than 300 + petro chemical factories.  In addition to that, ONGC Mangluru Petro Chemical LTD (OMPL) has already started functioning.  Presently these companies are not provided with proper rail connectivity. The importance of Railway siding at Thokur is quite prominent in this scenario.
Konkan Railway has constructed a 370 Mtr siding at Thokur station at an estimated cost of ` 1.75 Crore for facilitating the projected traffic from Mangalore area.  KRCL is expecting substantial earning from this siding.
Major commodities expected to move from this siding will be Purified Terephthalic Acid (PTA), Pet-coke, Sulphur, Bitumen, Fertilizer, etc.
Today,,Hon’ble Minister for Railways has inaugurated this goods siding at Thokur Station.

3) Commissioning of  four India Post  Passenger Reservation System (PRS) at  LANJA, RATNAGIRI, SANGAMESHWAR & KHED.
In order to avoid inconvenience and hardship in reserving train accommodation to passengers of non-rail head location as well as residing in city area situated away from Railway stations, Hon'ble Minister for Railways, Shri Suresh Prabhu has inaugurated four India Post Passenger Reservation System (PRS). With the opening of these four India Post PRS, total India Post PRS in Ratnagiri region will become seven and over all nine on entire Konkan Railway.  
Lanja Post-Office is situated in heart of Lanja City. POST OFFICE PRS Lanja will serve passengers of Lanja Taluk. At present there is no PRS facility anywhere in Lanja Taluk and passengers have to go to Ratnagiri or Kankavali which are 35 & 85 KM away from Lanja. Further, passenger can get reservation of any train which is not possible through present system of Quota Reservation System provided at Adavali and Vilavade station.
Sangameshwar Post-Office : PRS is situated at a prominent location of Sangameshwar town. It is about 500 Mtr away from Sangameshwar bus station and 04 KM from Sangameshwar Railway station. This new PRS will facilitate passengers of Sangameshwar Taluk. At present passengers of Sangameshwar  & Deorukh have to travel a distance of 40 KM either to Ratnagiri or Chiplun which is nearest PRS for booking of train tickets.
Ratnagiri City Post-Office : PRS facility will be operated at Head Post Office. Ratnagiri .This post office is situated in main market of Ratnagiri city & located 8.5 KM away from Ratnagiri Railway station. This will facilitate resident of Ratnagiri city and Taluk. This PRS will fulfill a long pending demand of Ratnagiri to setup City Booking Office  in Ratnagiri city. It will also facilitate  passengers to book ticket of any train which is not possible through town booking agencies situated in Ratnagiri city
Khed Post Office is located in the heart of Khed city. It is 2.5 KM away from Khed Railway station. This post office PRS will facilitate passengers of Khed city and as well as rural area of Khed Taluk.
4)   Integrated - Control Office Application (COA) system
Hon'ble Minister for Railways, Shri Suresh Prabhu has inaugurated IT enabled train operation system called Control Office Application (COA) on KRCL.
The Control Office Application (COA) of Indian Railway has been implemented in KRCL in a unique model by seamless integration with the existing Operations and Train Control Module (OT) of KRCL where Train timings captured at Stations are updated on a real-time basis and Controllers can monitor and manage the running of trains. By implementation of COA in KRCL,  the final route of Train movement has been mapped in the COA application of Indian Railway, so that a holistic view of the entire movement of trains in Indian Railway and its statistics generation is achieved.
It is this application that feeds the National Train Enquiry System (NTES) which provides upto date information on train running to the passengers. COA also links train operations information to Freight Operations Information System (FOIS) and Integrated Coaching Management System (ICMS) of Indian Railway.

5) Signing of Facility Agreement for Rs 1200 crore Rupee Term Loan among SBI, EXIM Bank with KRCL for Roha-Veer track Doubling and Route Electrification projects"
Route Electrification of Konkan Railway & Doubling of Roha-Veer section are two projects sanctioned by the Government of India. KRCL has begun execution of these projects which will now cost  ` 1510 crore including financing charges.

Ministry of Railways has sanctioned an amount of `  310 crore in the Budget 2017-18 for these projects. KRCL has made arrangements for the balance fund of ` 1200 crore through a Rupee Term Loan Facility from a consortium of lenders consisting of State Bank of India and EXIM Bank. The infrastructure project is funded on a 20-year structured loan pattern. M/s SBI caps was the advisors for KRCL for the loan arrangement. The fund from this facility would be availed from April ‘2017 onwards with the signing of the loan agreement

The above facility agreement was signed today in the august presence of Hon'ble Minister for Railways, Shri Suresh Prabhu.

To clear extra rush of passengers in summer,  Southern Railway will run  special trains in Ernakulam Jn - Chennai Central,  Kochuveli-Mangaluru Jn and Thiruvananthapuram-Madgaon sectors as under.
1. Train No. 00613, Ernakulam Suvidha special train will start from Chennai Central at 22.30 hrs o­n 06th and 13th May 2016(Fridays) to reach  Ernakulam Junction at 10.45 hrs o­n  next day.  In the return direction Train No. 00612, Chennai Central Suvidha express will start from Ernakulam Junction at 19.00 hrs o­n 08th and 15th May 2016(Sundays) to reach Chennai Central at 07.15 hrs o­n following day. With a composition of o­ne 2AC,Two 3AC and12 Sleeper class coaches the train will have stoppages at Katpadi, Jolarpettai, Salem, Erode, Tiruppur, Coimbatore, Palakkad Thrissur and Aluva stations. Train towards Ernakulam will have additional stop at Ernakulam Town.

2. Train No. 06014, Mangaluru junction special fare train will start from Kochuveli at  22.00 hrs o­n 06th and 13th May 2016(Fridays) to reach  Mangaluru Junction at 13.00 hrs o­n  next day.  In the return direction Train No. 06013, Kochuveli special fare express will start from Mangaluru Junction at 15.40 hrs o­n 08th and 15th May 2016(Sundays) to reach Kochuveli at 05.00 hrs o­n following day. With a composition of o­ne 2AC&3AC ,12 Sleeper class and 5 general coaches the train will have stoppages at  Kasaragod, Kanhangad, Payyannur, Kannur,  Thalasseri, Vadakara, Kozhikode, Tirur, Shoranur,Thrissur, Aluva, Ernakulam Town, Kottayam, Thiruvalla,  Chengannur, Kayamkulam and Kollam Junction stations.

Madgaon: All Indian railway contracts will be tendered online from early next year, Railway Minister Suresh Prabhu said on Sunday, while flagging off the first of the bi-weekly trains from Goa’s Margao railway station to New Delhi.

Prabhu, while speaking at the function by the Konkan Railway in Margao, 35 km from Panaji, also said the first few modern railway coaches designed by the National Institute of Design have already been rolled out.

“All work contracts also, by the end of this year, or earliest, in the early part of next year… everything will be on the internet. All contracts will be on e-tendering platform,” Prabhu said.

“We are trying to ensure that whole process of the railways will be transparent. All examinations which people used to give, there were a lot of complaints about wrongdoing. Now we have started online examinations and the idea would be all examinations will be made online,” Prabhu said.

Prabhu also said that in the past the Indian Railways used to take six years to issue a tender for a project after it’s announcement, but added that such an extensive time lag was a thing of the past.

“My colleagues in the Railway Board tell me that earlier when a project was announced, it would take six years for a tender to be issued… The time gap has been reduced to six months. My target is to reduce it even further and make it completely transparent,” Prabhu said.

Besides, in a bid to modernise, the railways ministry was also pushing for a roll out of new, modern coaches which would change the way in which a typical journey by Indian Railways was often perceived, Prabhu said.

“We have already rolled out first few coaches. But it will take time because there are thousands of coaches which need to be renovated and re-fitted. Once that is done, people will experience a different type of travel experience when they travel by Indian Railways,” Prabhu said.

The bi-weekly Rajdhani Express, which was flagged off by Prabhu, along with Goa Chief Minister Laxmikant Parsekar will depart Margao Railway station at 10:05 a.m. on every Sunday and Monday and reach Delhi’s Hazrat Nizamuddin Railway station at 12:40 p.m. on the subsequent day.

From Hazrat Nizamuddin station the Rajdhani will leave at 10:55 a.m. on every Friday and Saturday and reach Margao the next day at 12:55 p.m.

The 16 coach train will halt at Thivim, Kudal, Ratnagiri, Panvel, Surat, Vadodara and Kota railway stations.

We have to ensure that railways become the growth engine for India," Railway Minister

Margao: Union minister for railways Suresh Prabhu on Sunday asserted that railways will play a "key role" in Goa's development by ensuring "connectivity" of the state to more parts of the country.

"We have to make Goa the hub of growth that it deserves to be. That will put Goa on a different development trajectory," Prabhu said, while speaking at a function organized to mark the inaugural run of the Goa-Hazrat Nizamuddin Rajdhani Express at the Margao railway station.

Prabhu announced that the long-pending demand of Goans to have a Goa-Tirupati train will be met soon. "The Goa-Tirupati link will be provided as soon as possible," he said.

The construction of five rail overbridges in Goa has already been sanctioned and work will begin in the next five months, the minister said.

Prabhu voiced his determination to aggressively push through his five-year perspective action plan for Indian Railways, which includes multi-tracking and electrification of railway routes, modernization of coaches, and infrastructure development, which, he said, would boost the economic growth of the country. "We have to ensure that railways become the growth engine for India," he said.

Prabhu also said that many of his budget announcements have already been implemented with a significant number of works having already started. As part of the 'Make in India' initiative, he said that while thousands of crores worth of contracts have already been awarded; railways would also see an investment on a large-scale in the next five years.

Outlining the focus areas of the railways, the Union minister said that safety, speed, bridging the demand-supply mismatch, better customer service, transparency and increased capacity to deliver, "all rolled into action plan is already under implementation".

The double-tracking of the Konkan Railway route, foundation stone for which has recently been laid, would be completed in the next few years, he said. On modernization of coaches; the first two coaches have already been rolled out; Prabhu added, "People will have a different kind of travel experience."

Referring to the inordinate delays in completing railway projects in the past, the minister said he has managed to reduce the timeline between announcement of project and issuing tenders from six years to six months. "My target is to reduce it still further and make it more transparent," he stressed.

Stating that 10,000km of electrification of routes will be completed in the next five years, Prabhu said that electrification of routes made both economic as well as environmental sense. Konkan Railway, alone, will save nearly 100 crore upon the electrification of its route, he said. Chief minister Laxmikant Parsekar, speaking on the occasion, urged Prabhu to expedite the double tracking of the KR route, as it would reduce road accidents. Introduction of diesel multiple unit and electric multiple unit trains on the KR route will largely take the pressure off the roads, he said.

PWD minister Ramkrishna Dhavalikar, Margao MLA Digambar Kamat, Rajya Sabha MP Shantaram Naik and South Goa MP Narendra Sawaikar, also spoke on the occasion.

Now, board a Rajdhani from Goa, Vasai or Panvel

MUMBAI: Now you can board a Rajdhani for Goa (Madgaon), or alternately, board the train to Delhi from Vasai or Panvel. A new Rajdhani, the first to ply along the Konkan Railway route, will be inaugurated on Sunday and will run twice a week.

While a Rajdhani from Goa has been long awaited, Mumbaikars will doubly benefit—they get an additional train to Goa and can take a Rajdhani to Delhi from Vasai Road station on the Western line and Panvel station on the Harbour line. The inaugural run of the train will be flagged off by railway minister Suresh Prabhu in Madgaon at 3pm on Sunday. Goa chief minister Laxmikant Parsekar will also be present during the launch, officials stated. Said a senior KR official: "Commuters have long been asking for a Rajdhani connecting Goa. The Union minister will launch the service on Sunday and it will be a Divali gift to commuters."

According to the timetable, the train (number 22413) will leave Madgaon on Sundays and Mondays at 10.05 am and will reach Hazrat Nizamuddin station (New Delhi) at 12.40pm the next day. In the return direction, the train (number 22414) will depart from Hazrat Nizamuddin station on Fridays and Saturdays at 10.55am and reach Madgaon at 12.50pm the next day. The Madgaon-Delhi train will have halts at Thivim, Kudal, Ratnagiri, Panvel, Vasai Road, Surat, Vadodara and Kota.

Said an official, "Even those headed for Ratnagiri can board this train from Mumbai. Also, for a Mumbaikar, this could be yet another Rajdhani for Delhi—boarding point being Vasai Road and Panvel stations."

At present, the Mumbai Rajdhani, which leaves Mumbai Central at 5pm, is the fastest train on the Mumbai-Delhi sector and reaches New Delhi at 8.35am the next day. The Rajdhani generally has AC first class coach, AC two-tier coaches and AC three-tier coaches, two pantry cars, two luggage-cum-generator coaches.

Railways to form SPVs for infra development with 17 States: Suresh Prabhu

Panaji: Railway Minister Suresh Prabhu today said his ministry will form special purpose vehicles (SPVs) with 17 states to develop railway infrastructure.

“We are creating a special purpose vehicle with each state separately. There are 17 states, who have shown interest. It would be a joint venture,” Prabhu told PTI on the sidelines of the function to flag off local train at Pernem station in north Goa.

He said Goa, North-Eastern states and Jammu and Kashmir are not included in this scheme.

“For the 17 states, we will create SPVs. The state will invest the capital, along with the Centre, in this company (SPV), which will be used for development of railway infrastructure,” the minister said.

According to Prabhu, Maharashtra has decided to invest Rs 10,000 crore for next five years in this company to develop railway infrastructure..

He also announced 250 additional trains to clear the rush during forthcoming Ganesh Chaturthi festival, which would be celebrated across Maharashtra’s Konkan region and Goa in September.

“Ganesh chaturthi is the most important festival in Goa. We have decided to run 250 additional trains to clear the rush,” Prabhu told a gathering at Pernem Railway Station today, where he flagged off the train between Pernem and Karwar.

Several railway divisions, including Konkan Railway Corporation Ltd (KRCL), Central Railway, Southern Railway and others, will pitch in to ply the special trains.

Prabhu said 17 stations on KRCL route will have wi-fi facility and escalators will be installed in the stations, including Margao, Ratnagiri, Kankavali and Thivim.

Proposal for Conversion of Mumbai-Goa section into Semi High-speed Corridor slows down due to encroachments

Mumbai: Work on converting the existing railway line between Mumbai and Goa into the proposed semihigh-speed corridor has slowed down due to encroachments near the Roha Nagothane stretch. The encroached land was required for the expansion of tracks but the affected parties approached court, delaying the entire process. The railways are now planning to change the tracks’ alignment to avoid further delays.

Last year, the railway ministry had announced that it will convert a few corridors, including the Mumbai-Goa stretch, into semi-high-speed corridors to enable trains to run at speeds of up to 160kmph. While Konkan tracks ahead of Roha are can run trains at that speed, Central Railway (CR) had started upgrading its infrastructure before Roha to upgrade to those speeds. “As per the initial plan, the encroachments were to be removed and tracks were to be slewed [joined together] to increase the speed. But now the railways have decided divert the tracks and go by a different alignment altogether,” said a senior official.

Trains on the existing Mumbai-Goa Konkan railway stretch run at 100kmph at certain stretches and it takes about 12 hours to cover the distance. If 160kmph becomes achievable, the distance will be covered in a much lesser time. The railways are also in the process of conducting a final study on the high-speed Mumbai-Ahmedabad corridor to start bullet trains.

Goa to soon get first DEMU Train along Konkan Railway route

Madgaon (MAQ):  Goa is scheduled to get the first diesel-electric multiple unit (DEMU) train plying within Goa along the Konkan Railway route shortly. Sources in the Konkan Railway informed TOI that the train will be introduced within the next 4-6 weeks, and will ply between Pernem and Canacona.

Initially, there will be two services of the DEMU train connecting all the stations of Konkan Railway in Goa state, says a press note by Konkan Railway Corporation Limited (KRCL).

“There was a demand from the chief minister of Goa for doubling of Konkan Railway track in Goa. He also demanded suburban-like services should be started connecting different stations of Konkan Railway in Goa state. He stressed the need for starting at least one or two DEMU service without waiting for the doubling of the tracks. Taking this into account the minister for railways, Suresh Prabhu, had issued instructions to Konkan Railway to look into the feasibility of introducing a DEMU service at the earliest,” said a press note issued by general manger (admn), KRCL, Siddeshwar Telugu.

“The timings for the DEMU train are being worked out. Once the time slot is finalized, the dates of the commencement of the service will be announced,” senior manager, public relations, Baban Ghatge, told.

Currently, there are two DEMU trains plying along the Konkan Railway route through Goa – both between Margao and Karwar railway stations. These trains largely benefit office-goers and factory workers from Karwar and places enroute, who commute to Margao on a daily basis.

The new DEMU train is expected to benefit the locals and ease pressure on the public bus transport.

Railway Minister flags-off new Passenger Train to ply between Madgaon-Ratnagiri

‘Indian railways will work with KRC to boost Goa’s tourism’: Suresh Prabhu, Union Minister for Railways

Madgaon: Union Minister for Railways Suresh Prabhu flagged off the new train 50101/50102 Margao-Ratnagiri-Margao passenger on Tuesday. The train is likely to benefit people travelling from Ratnagiri and Sindhudurg districts to Goa regularly for work and business.  Dignitaries who graced the occasion were Hon’ble Chief Minister of Goa – Shri Laxmikant Parsekar, Shri Narendra Sawaikar – Hon’ble MP, Shri Digambar Kamat – Hon’ble MLA, Shri Vijay Sardessai – Hon’ble MLA, and Shri Gonzaco Rebello – Hon’ble Chairperson Margaon Municipal Council.

During its regular run, the passenger train will depart from Margao at 7.10pm and reach Ratnagiri at 12.15am the next day. It will depart from Ratnagiri at 3.20am and reach Margao at 9.55am. The train will have 18 coaches.

Prabhu also inaugurated enhanced passenger amenities at Margao railway station including Wi-Fi facility, food court, escalator, etc.

During the event, Suresh Prabhu said that the Indian Railways will work together with the Goa government to boost the state’s tourism industry, even as he stressed that Konkan Railway and the Indian Railways will work in tandem to provide better amenities to the travelling public.

Speaking after flagging of the inaugural run of the Margao-Ratnagiri passenger train at Margao, Prabhu assured that the Indian Railways will provide the backbone to Goa’s trade and commerce with a view to ensuring that Goa remains an important commercial hub.

“The food court will cater to the multitude of passengers who are served by the station everyday. The food court will serve different kinds of cuisines from multiple stalls with seating capacity for 150 passengers at a time. KRCL plans to introduce both renowned brands and local products for sale in the food court,” a press note by KRC stated.

The Wi-Fi facility will help facilitate seamless internet connectivity. The user will get the service free for the first 30 minutes. The system is designed to cater to Wi-Fi users on platform no. 1 and 2 at the station.

“The escalator from platform No.1 of the station to the foot-overbridge will provide ease to the differently-abled persons, senior citizens and other passengers. Improvements to the other passenger amenities include additional loop lines, new platforms, direct access to the city from the new platform, resurfacing of platforms, increasing covered shelters, signage, video walls, relocating and redesigning of parking areas etc,” the note adds.

“We will do whatever is necessary to boost tourism in Goa. Services of the IRCTC can be used to bring more tourists from abroad to Goa,” Prabhu said, adding that he would meet Goa chief minister Laxmikant Parsekar on Wednesday and discuss “how Goa government and the Indian Railways can work together to offer better services for Goa.”

Responding to the demand made by the Margao MLA Digambar Kamat and South Goa MP Narendra Sawaikar earlier to develop the Margao railway station into a world-class station, Prabhu said that any railway station along the Konkan Railway route can be offered to any developer on a PPP mode to develop it into a world-class station.

He acknowledged the idea that the Margao railway station can be expanded into a business centre.

Stating that many of the railway stations will be upgraded by improving passenger amenities, Prabhu said that it would also be the endeavour of the Konkan Railway to bring about socio-economic transformation of the region.

Replying to queries posed by press persons, Prabhu said that the safety audit done by the KRC of the Konkan Railway track has put to rest any apprehensions about the safety of the track.

Chairman and managing director of Konkan Railway Corporation (KRC), B P Tayal said that the electrification and double-tracking of the KR route will be very soon approved by the railway board. Stating that KRC will raise funds from World Bank and JAICA for the twin projects, Tayal said KRC is likely to get 500 to 1,000 crore from the Indian Railways to start the activities. While the double tracking project is estimated to cost 10,500 crore, the cost of electrification of the lines is estimated at 720 crore, Tayal said.

He also informed that three new stations – Sarzora, Mayem and Nuvem – will be set up in Goa soon.

Sawaikar, addressing the gathering earlier, urged Prabhu to ensure that the double decker train introduced on the KR route last year is re-introduced.
