Indo -Nepal Rail Connectivity to Enhance Trade and Commerce Activities

The Government of India & The Government of Nepal  in a move to strengthen the Indo - Nepal connectivity, enhance trade and commerce activities commissioned the Jaynagar (Bihar - India) – Kurtha (Nepal) section of Rail link.

Government of Nepal has formed Nepal Railway Company Limited (NRCL) which has been given the onus of operations & maintenance of train services and Railway system in Jaynagar- Kurtha section. Nepal Railway Company Limited has awarded the contract for starting train operations in Jayanagar - Kurtha to Konkan Railway.

Under the able leadership of Hon’ble Prime Minister  and the guidance of the Hon’ble Minister of Railways, Konkan Railway has been successful in delivering Two 5 Car DEMU Train sets to Nepal Railway Company Limited as well as commence the operationalization of the cross-border rail link between Jaynagar (India) and Kurtha (Nepal) from 02-04-2022 (today) after the inaugural run on this section.

The initial passenger services will start with Two 5 Car DEMU Train sets which have been supplied by Konkan Railway to the Government of Nepal against supply  contract awarded to KRCL with funding provided by the Government of Nepal. These rakes are manufactured by Integral Coach Factory, Chennai and have many modern features.

Each 5 car DEMU train set has 1600 HP propulsion and other advanced features such as one air-conditioned coach, electronic fuel injection, microprocessor based AC-AC traction, pneumatic suspension and toilets. The Government of Nepal finalized the color scheme of these train sets based on the National flag of Nepal.

Nepal Railway Company Ltd. has engaged Konkan Railway Corporation Limited, for initial hand holding and to provide Operations & Maintenance support for a period of one year.

As part of this agreement, Konkan Railway will undertake operations & maintenance of trainsets, provide training to the Employees of Nepal Railway, supply of 26 expert manpower and minimum equipment, create basic systems for Railway Operations and provide technical support for maintenance of track and signalling systems

The joint working of Nepal Railway Company with Konkan Railway under support from The Government of India and The Government of Nepal will help Nepal to build a robust Railway system and will help in strengthening the relationships between the two countries.

Konkan Railway is happy and privileged to work with the Department of Railways and the Ministry of Physical Infrastructure and Transport, Nepal and be a part of India’s efforts to have good relations with its neighbours.

1)  Train no. 02198 / 02197 Jabalpur Jn. - Coimbatore Jn. - Jabalpur Jn. Weekly Superfast Festival Special : 

Train no. 02198 Jabalpur Jn. - Coimbatore Jn. Weekly Superfast Festival Special  will leave from Jabalpur Jn. at 23:50 hrs every Friday from 1st April  to 27th May 2022. Train will reach Coimbatore Jn. at 14:40 hrs on the third day. 

Train no.  02197 Coimbatore Jn. - Jabalpur Jn. Weekly Superfast Festival Special will leave from Coimbatore Jn. at 17:05 hrs every Monday from 4th April  to 30th May 2022 Train will reach Jabalpur Jn. at 08:45 hrs on the third day. 

Train will halt at Narsinghpur, Gadarwara, Pipariya, Itarsi Jn., Harda, Khandwa, Bhusawal Jn., Nasik Road, Panvel, Roha, Khed, Chiplun, Ratnagiri, Kankavali, Kudal, Thivim, Madgaon Jn., Karwar, Kumta, Mookambika Road Byndoor, Kundapura, Udupi, Mulki, Mangaluru Jn., Kasaragod, Kannur, Kozhikode, Shoranur Jn. and Palghat stations.

Composition: Total 23 Coaches = First AC - 01 Coach, 2 Tier AC - 02 Coaches, 3 Tier AC - 05 Coaches, Sleeper - 11 Coaches, Second Seating - 02 Coaches, SLR - 02.

1)  Train no. 09193 / 09194 Surat - Karmali - Surat Weekly on Special Fare: 

Train no. 09193 Surat - Karmali Weekly on Special  Fare will leave from Surat at 19:50 hrs every Tuesday from 19th April to 07th June 2022. Train will reach Karmali at 11:30 hrs on the next day. 

Train no. 09194 Karmali - Surat Weekly on Special  Fare will leave from Karmali at 12:30 hrs on  Wednesday from 20th April to 08th June 2022. Train will reach Surat at 08:00 hrs on the next day.

Due to the pandemic of COVID-19, Indian Railway has suspended the operations of all passenger train services till 31st March 2020. Konkan Railway in co-ordination with Zonal Railways is operating only freight trains to ensure uninterrupted freight services for the availability of essential commodities.
Konkan Railway passes through 03 states i.e. Maharashtra, Goa & Karnataka and is working in close co-ordination with these state governments so that rakes of essential commodities are handled smoothly without any delay, amidst various restriction imposed in the wake of COVID-19.
During the situation of lockdown in various states, Konkan Railway Staff have been deployed at various good sheds, stations and control offices and are working on 24/7 basis to ensure that the supply of essential items does not get affected.
To monitor the uninterrupted movement of essential commodities over Indian Railway system, an Emergency freight control is working in the Ministry of Railways. Freight movement is being closely monitored by officials at very senior level.
Konkan Railway understands its crucial role during this difficult time and requests all the stakeholders to fully support in ensuring faster loading and unloading of essential supplies.

New Stations in Konkan Railway Route likely to be completed by March 2020
MUMBAI: Konkan Railway Corporation (KRCL), which celebrated its 29th Foundation Day on October 15, said in a statement that work on the construction of 10 new stations ― Indapur, Goregoan Road, Sape Wamane, Kalbani, Kadwai, Verawali, Kharepatan, Achirne, Mirjan and Innanje ― and eight loop lines is in progress and is likely to be completed by March 2020.
Apart from this, five additional loop lines at Anjani, Sawarda, Rajapur Road, Vaibhavwadi Road and Murdeshwar stations have already been commissioned.
It said that the electrification of the entire Konkan Railway route will be completed by March 2021. This project is estimated to cost around ₹1,100 crore.
Work on the doubling of the 46-km stretch between Roha and Veer section is in progress and will be completed by March 2020.
During 2018-19, Konkan Railway achieved a net profit of ₹102 crore. The turnover of the company was ₹2,898 crore during 2018-19. This included the project turnover of ₹1,561 crore, and operating turnover of ₹1,264 crore.
It said that Konkan Railway has bagged the contract for conducting engineering survey of the proposed railway line between Raxaul in Bihar and Kathmandu in Nepal. The survey has been completed and submitted to Nepal through the Union External Affairs Ministry.
KRCL said that work is in progress for the 53.6-km stretch of Udampur Srinagar Baramulla Rail Link (USBRL) project. Excavation work for the 10.26-km tunnel has been completed.  Work on the bridges over Anji and Chenab rivers is in progress.
Apart from this, KRCL has constructed an 11-km new railway line at NTPC Gadarwara project. This railway line includes a 366-metre-long bridge on Shakkar river, it said.

Hon'ble Minister of Railways, Shri. Piyush Goyal is always keen for safe and pleasant journey of railway passengers, considering this vision Konkan Railway has taken up various initiatives to ensure a safe and pleasant journey of the devotees of Lord Ganesha for the year 2019.
Konkan Railway is running 210 trips of special trains other then its regular train services in co-ordination with Central and Western Railway towards Konkan region. In addition to this, 647 more coaches have been augmented as compared to last year coaches of special trains during Ganesh festival 2019.
Additionally Experimental halt to Train no. 12051 / 12052 Dadar – Madgaon Jn. - Dadar Janshatabdi Express has been provided at Sawantwadi Road station from 30th August 2019 which will facilitate more than 07 lakh passengers annually.
The provision of extra booking windows will be made available at stations to clear rush at booking counters as per requirement. Reservation facility is also available at 11 Post Offices apart from Passenger Reservation System (PRS) at 17 Stations. Town booking agency at 16 locations are also available to issue tickets.
Intensive ticket checking will be carried out at stations and in trains to curb unauthorized passengers. All catering establishments are directed to operate extra tables / mobile trolleys to cater to the needs of passengers. All catering establishments are instructed to keep sufficient quantity of eatables and drinking water at their stalls. Further all catering establishments have been instructed to keep baby food products.
First Aid posts are set up at Khed, Kankavali and Kudal stations in addition to the health units at Chiplun, Ratnagiri, Thivim, Verna, Madgaon, Karwar and Udupi from 2nd to 12th September 2019. These First Aid posts will be manned around the clock.
Special arrangements have been made to ensure convenient, comfortable and safe journey of passengers. For additional security, one company of Railway Protection Special Force (RPSF) has been deployed along with Railway Protection force (RPF) staff for crowd control and maintaining law and order. The RPF staff from other regions of KRCL have also been mobilized and deployed at major stations. The RPF will also be strategically deputed for escorting the most affected trains during this period. Total 204 RPF and Home guard personnel have been deployed for security arrangements. Anti – sabotage checks at stations will be made at stations in co – ordination with State Police to ensure additional safety of passengers. Further, RPF staff have also been sensitized to respond quickly to messages received through Twitter and All India Security Helpline No. 182 in case of any security related problems. State Police authorities have also assured assistance in maintaining law and order at railway premises.

Good news for passengers !!! It has been decided to run additional special trains between Madgaon and Panvel to clear extra rush of passengers during Summer holidays in co-ordination with Central Railway. Details are as follows :
1) Train No. 00104 / 00103 Madgaon – Panvel – Madgaon Special :
Train No. 00104 Madgaon - Panvel Special will leave from Madgaon at 12:30 hrs every  Friday, from 17th May to 31st May 2019. Train will reach Panvel at 23:05 hrs on the same day.
Train No. 00103 Panvel – Madgaon Special will leave from Panvel at 23:55 hrs every Friday from 17th May to 31st May 2019 . Train will reach Madgaon at 10:25 hrs on the next day. 
The train will halt at Thivim, Kudal, Kankavali, Ratnagiri, Chiplun and Roha stations.
Composition : Total 22 LHB Coaches = 3 Tier AC – 01 Coach, Sleeper – 13 Coaches, General – 05 Coaches, Pantry Car – 01 Coach, Generator car  – 02.
2) Train No. 00112 / 00111 Madgaon – Panvel - Madgaon Special :
Train No. 00112 Madgaon - Panvel Special will leave from Madgaon at 20:00 hrs every  Sunday, from 12th May to 26th May 2019.Train will reach Panvel at 06:30 hrs on the next day.
Train No. 00111 Panvel – Madgaon Special will leave from Panvel at 08:00 hrs every Monday from 13th May to 27th May 2019 . Train will reach  Madgaon at 18:30 hrs on the same day. 
The train will halt at Thivim, Kudal, Kankavali, Ratnagiri, Chiplun and Roha stations.
Composition : Total 22 LHB Coaches = 3 Tier AC – 01 Coach, Sleeper – 13 Coaches, General – 05 Coaches, Pantry Car – 01 Coach, Generator car – 02.
Bookings of the above trains will open from 11/05/2019 at all Passenger Reservation System(PRS), Internet, IRCTC website.

1) Train No. 01193 / 01194 Mumbai CSMT - Thivim - Mumbai CSMT Unreserved Special 
Train No. 01193 Mumbai CSMT – Thivim Unreserved Special will leave from Mumbai CSMT at 20:50 hrs on Saturday, 13th April 2019.Train will reach Thivim at 12:00 hrs on the next day.
Train No. 01194 Thivim - Mumbai CSMT Unreserved Special will leave from Thivim at 15:40 hrs on Sunday 14th April 2019. Train will reach Mumbai CSMT at 04:15 hrs on the next day.

1) Train No. 01157 Mumbai CSMT – Karmali One Way Special.
Train No. 01157 Mumbai CSMT – Karmali One Way Special will leave from Mumbai CSMT  at 00:40 hrs on 23rd February 2019 (Saturday) and 24th February 2019 (Sunday). Train will reach Karmali at 13:30 hrs on the same day.
The train will halt at Dadar, Thane, Panvel, Roha, Khed, Chiplun, Ratnagiri, Kankavali, Sindhudurg, Kudal, Sawantwadi Road and Thivim station.

Good news for passengers !!  It has been decided to run Puja / Diwali Special Trains between Lokmanya Tilak (T) & Sawantwadi Road / Thivim to clear extra rush of passengers in co-ordination with Central Railway. The details are as follows :
1. Train No. 01037 / 01038 Lokmanya Tilak (T) – Sawantwadi Road – Lokmanya Tilak (T) Special (Weekly) :
Train No. 01037 Lokmanya Tilak (T) – Sawantwadi Road Special (Weekly) will leave from Lokmanya Tilak (T) at 01:10 hrs on Monday 5th , 12th & 19th November 2018. Train will reach Sawantwadi Road at 13:20 hrs on same day.

Provisional Result of Computer Based Test (CBT)

As a step towards transforming India to Digital India, Konkan Railway has switched over from Manual Recruitment System to Online Recruitment Procedure.

First Notification for online recruitment had been issued for 65 posts of Technician (Electrical : 38, S&T : 27) on 23/03/2018.  Total 2986 candidates  applied against the notification.  Computer Based Test (CBT) for the said notification was held on 25/06/2018 at 5 locations of Maharashtra, Goa & Karnataka.  Examination was conducted very smoothly and successfully in which 2203 candidates i.e. 74 % of applicants  appeared.  Result of CBT for recruitment process have been published on KRCL website on 30/08/2018 in which 65 candidates are kept on regular list and 33 candidates have been kept as standby.  After successful completion of further recruitment process, they will be appointed in Konkan Railway.

Online recruitments in KRCL  is now a transparent paperless procedure, leaving no scope for intrusions by unauthorised persons.
