WESTERN RAILWAY STARTS TO RUN RAJDHANI EXPRESS WITH NEW UPGRADED TEJAS RAKES

First rake with exclusive Tejas type Smart Sleeper coaches introduced in Indian Railways

A new era of train travel experience with enhanced comfort is being rolled out by Western Railway with the introduction of newly upgraded Tejas sleeper coach rakes. These bright golden hued coaches, with enhanced smart features are being introduced to run Western Railway’s prestigious Mumbai Rajdhani Express train and will boast to offer best in class travel experience. This new rake made its maiden run from Monday, 19th July, 2021. This achievement has been accomplished under the able guidance, energetic leadership as well as continuous monitoring by Shri Alok Kansal – General Manager of Western Railway.

According to a press release issued by Shri Sumit Thakur - Chief Public Relations Officer of Western Railway, the existing rakes of Train No.02951/52 Mumbai – New Delhi Rajdhani Special Express, o­ne of the most prestigious & premium trains of WR are being replaced with brand new Tejas type sleeper coaches. Two such Tejas type sleeper coach rakes have been made ready to run as Rajdhani Express. Out of these two rakes, o­ne rake comprises of exclusive Tejas Smart sleeper coaches, which is first of its kind to be introduced over Indian Railways. The new train will have special smart features for enhanced passenger safety and comfort. The smart coach aims to provide world-class facilities to passengers with the help of intelligent sensor-based systems. It is equipped with Passenger Information and Coach Computing Unit (PICCU) provided with GSM network connectivity, which reports to the remote server. PICCU will record the data of WSP, CCTV recording, Toilet odour sensors, panic switch and other items integrated with fire detection and alarm system, air quality and choke filter sensor & energy meter.Shri Thakur stated that with the use of Tejas SMART Coach, Indian Railways aims to move to predictive maintenance instead of preventive maintenance. The introduction of this modern Tejas Sleeper type train for long distance journey, is another paradigm shift by Indian Railways for enhancing the travel experience for the passengers.

Additional Smart Features: 

●PA/PIS (Passenger Announcement/Passenger Information System): Two LCDs inside each coach display vital journey related information to the passengers such as the next station, distance remaining, expected time of arrival, delay and safety related messages.

●Digital destination board: Flush type LED Digital Destination Board has been installed o­n each coach by splitting the displayed data into two rows. The first row displays Train number and Coach type while second row displays scrolling text of destination and intermediate station in multiple languages.

●Security & Surveillance monitoring:Six nos. of cameras are fitted in each coach which gives live recording. CCTV cameras with day night vision capability, Facial recognition even in low light condition, Network Video Recorder are provided.

●Automatic Plug Door: All main entrance doors are centralized controlled by Guard. Train will not start until all doors are closed.

●Fire Alarm, Detection and Suppression system: All coaches are provided with Automatic Fire Alarm and Detection System. The Pantry and Power Cars have automatic fire suppression system in case detected.

●Emergency Talk back for medical or security emergency

●Improved Toilet Unit: Provided with anti-graffiti coating, Gel coated shelf, New design dustbin, Door latch activated light, Engagement display.

●Toilet Occupancy Sensor: Automatically displays the toilet occupancy inside each coach

●Panic Button in Lavatories:Fitted in each lavatory, in case of any emergency.

●Toilet Annunciation Sensor Integration (TASI): Two nos. of Toilet Annunciation Sensor Integration are fitted in each coach which will relay dos and don’ts announcement in the lavatories, whenever it is engaged.

●Bio-Vacuum Toilet system:  Provides improved hygiene condition in the toilet due to improved flushing and also save water per flush.

●Stainless Steel Under-frame:  Complete under-frame is of austenitic stainless steel (SS 201LN) which increases life of the coach because of reduced corrosion.

●Air Suspension Bogies: Provided with Air Spring Suspension in bogies to improve passenger comfort and ride quality of these coaches.

●On Board condition monitoring system for Bearing, Wheel, to improve safety

●HVAC - Air quality measurement for Air Conditioning system

●Water level sensor to indicate water availability o­n real time basis

●Textured Exterior PVC Film:  Exterior is provided with textured PVC film.

●Improved interiors: Seats and berths having fire – resistant silicon foam, provide better comfort and safety to passengers.

●Roller Blind o­n window:  Instead of curtains roller blinds provided for easy sanitization.

●Mobile Charging points: Provided for each passenger.

●Berth reading light: Provided for each passenger.

●Upper berth climbing arrangement: Convenient upper berth arrangement.

Shri Thakur stated that Tejas type Sleeper coaches are manufactured at Modern Coach Factory (MCF) which will gradually replace the premium long-distance trains over Indian Railways network.

Pune-Guwahati o­ne-way Special Train

As part of COVID-19 preparedness, it was advised by the Ministry of Railways that coaches may be converted into Quarantine/Isolation Coaches so as to augment the additional quarantine/isolation facilities if required.
In this regard, to start with Railway Board advised to utilize o­nly Non-AC Sleeper Class Coaches for converting as quarantine/isolation coaches. Accordingly, Shri Gajanan Mallya, General Manager, South Central Railway instructed the officials of the Zone to draw the plans for modification of the existing non -AC sleeper class coaches as quarantine/isolation coaches.
As per the instructions of General Manager, staff and officers of Carriage Workshop, Lallaguda swung into action and modified two cabins in a non-ac sleeper class coach number SC GSCN 00205 as a prototype isolation cabins. 
The details of modification being done includes -
ØGenerally, each sleeper class coach will have 9 cabins. In each cabin 6 berths inside (2 lower, 2 middle and 2 upper) and 2 berths in side (1 side lower and 1 side upper) totaling to 6+2=8 berths. o­n entire coach there are 72 berths.
ØOut of these 9 cabins, presently o­nly 2 cabins i.e. second cabin from either end are modified as a prototype isolation cabin.
ØIn these 2 cabins (earmarked for isolation), both middle and upper berths and also side lower and side upper berths were removed.
ØOut of these 2 cabins, o­ne cabin provided with half partition sheet& half curtain and the other cabin provided with twofull plasticcurtains.
ØIn both the cabins the width of the lower berth earmarked for the patient widened by 90 mm for sleeping comfort.
ØOne of the two cabins was wrapped with Vinyl o­n panels in cabin area for good aesthetics.
ØProvisionof Mosquito Wire Mesh in lieu of Venetion shutters.
ØLadders for upper berth removed.
ØStainless Steel bottle holders 2 Nos.provided.
ØDust bins with cover provided.
ØIn both the cabins 3 sockets of 5-amp capacity with switch provided to meet the power supply needs.
ØEntrance of cabin provided with two half plastic curtains.
Modification in Toilet Portion:
ØThe toilet pans of the Indian style toilets available at both the ends of the coach wereremoved and converted for bathing facility.
ØToilet floor provided with PVC & drain hole.
ØWash basin inside the toilet removed to make the bathing facility comfortable.
ØAdditional tap with lift type handle and in proper height has been provided so that bucket can be filled without much difficulty. In addition, health faucet & Shower facility are also provided.
ØBucket, bath stool and mugprovided.
These facilities are in addition to quarantine / isolation beds provided by the Zone at Railway Hospitals / Health Units / Training Institutes spread around 30 locations over the South Central Railway accommodating more than 1000 beds.

Central Railway has decided to run 6 more special trains between Lokmanya Tilak Terminus – Ratnagiri and augment Dadar – Sawantwadi Tutari Express by 3 Additional Sleeper Class Coaches to clear the extra rush of passengers during Ganpati Festival. The details are as under -
(A) Lokmanya Tilat Terminus – Ratnagiri specials (6)
01227 Special will leave Lokmanya Tilak Terminus at 20.50 hrs on 30.8.2019, 31.8.2019 and 1.9.2019 and arrive Ratnagiri at 06.40 hrs next day.
01228 Special will leave Ratnagiri at 08.00 hrs o­n 31.8.2019, 1.9.2019 and 2.9.2019 and arrive Lokmanya Tilak Terminus at 16.25 hrs same day.
 Halts: Thane, Panvel, Roha, Mangaon, Veer, Khed, Chiplun, Savarda, Aravali Road and Sangameshwar Road

(B) Augmentation of Dadar – Sawantwadi Tutari Express by 3 Additional Sleeper Class Coaches
Central Railway has decided to augment Train No. 11003 / 11004 Dadar – Sawantwadi – Dadar Tutari Express by 3 more Sleeper class coaches with immediate effect upto 10.9.2019 to clear the rush of passengers during Ganpati Festival.
Wait listed passengers of Dadar – Sawantwadi Tutari Express are requested to check the reservation status before commencement of journey.

Bihar: Seven dead as 11 coaches of Seemanchal Express derail

In an unfortunate incident, seven people died on Sunday after 11 coaches of the Delhi-bound Seemanchal Express (12487) derailed in Bihar.
The accident took place at 3:58am in Sahadai Buzurg.
The derailed coaches include one general coach, one AC coach B3, three sleeper coaches (S8, S9, S10) and others.
Rescue operations are underway, and the death toll is expected to climb.
Railway Minister Piyush Goyal has announced compensation for those affected

Limit of Free Luggage in Trains 
Passengers travelling over all Indian Railways are permitted to carry luggage free of charge with them in the compartment up to 70 Kgs. in First AC, 50 Kgs. in First Class/AC-2 tier, 40 Kgs. in AC 3-tier/AC Chair Car/Sleeper Class and 35 Kgs. in Second Class.   
Passengers are allowed to book and carry excess luggage beyond free allowance, with them in the compartment up to the maximum prescribed class-wise limit on payment of charges at 1.5 times of luggage rate. The classwise maximum limit is as under:

Following are the facilities announced by the Government for passenger of sleeper and general second class coaches wherein implementation has already started: 

1.Provision of cushioned seats in General Second class coaches. 

2.Magazine bags, bottle holder and snack table in non-air conditioned Sleeper Class coaches. 

3.Provision of dustbins in all Sleeper and General class coaches. 

4.Provision of Braille signages. 

5.On-Board House Keeping services wherein internal cleaning of sleeper class coaches on identified trains is carried out on run. 

6.Cleaning of coaches under Clean Train Station scheme at nominated stations including Non-AC sleeper class coaches. 

7.Mobile charging points in all new coaches. 

This Press Release is based on information given by the Minister of State (Independent Charge) of the Ministry of Communications and Minister of State for Railways in a written reply to a question in Rajya Sabha on 22.07.2016 (Friday).

CPI-M asks Railways to withdraw order on sleeper tickets

CPI(M) today demanded that Railways withdraw its order stopping on the spot issue of sleeper tickets for long distance trains in reserved coaches and urged Kerala Chief Minister Oommen Chandy to immediately take up with the Railways the hardships faced by commuters . 

Party State Secretary Kodiyeri Balakrishnan told reporters here that this step by Railways had led to hardships for the passengers. 

He demanded that the Chief Minister immediately intervene on the matter and alleged that it was an 'open challenge' by the Railway towards commuters. 

CPI(M) veteran and Opposition leader V S Achuthanandan requested the Railways to reconsider the decision and withdraw the order. 

As per the directive of Railway Board, booking counters have stopped issuing sleeper tickets to those wishing to travel without reservation on trains. 

Only ordinary tickets will henceforth be issued. 

Earlier, passengers were issued sleeper class tickets in long distance trains to travel during daytime.

AUGMENTATION OF TRAIN NOs. 12007/12008 CHENNAI-MYSORE-CHENNAI SHATABDI EXPRESS WITH ONE ADDITIONAL SECOND CLASS AC CHAIR CAR PERMANENTLY BY SOUTHERN RAILWAY:--
Southern Railway has advised that an additional Second Class AC Chair Car has been attached permanently to Train Nos. 12007/12008 Chennai-Bangalore City-Chennai Shatabdi Express, with effect from 29th June, 2015 from both ends. 

These trains are now running with total 13 coaches (instead of 12 coaches earlier), consisting of One First Class AC Chair Car, Ten Second class AC Chair Cars and Two Luggage & Brake with Generator (Vestibule) Cars, with effect from 29th June, 2015. 

EAST CENTRAL RAILWAY AUGMENTS TRAIN NOs. 15228/15227 MUZAFFARPUR-YESVANTPUR-MUZAFFARPUR WEEKLY EXPRESS WITH ONE ADDITIONAL AC 3-TIER COACH PERMANENTLY :-

East Central Railway has decided to augment Train Nos.15228/15227 MUZAFFARPUR-YESVANTPUR-MUZAFFARPUR WEEKLY EXPRESS with ONE additional AC 3-tier coach, by replacing One Second Class Sleeper Coach permanently, with effect from Muzaffarpur end from 02nd November, 2015 and from Yesvantpur end from 04th November, 2015.

These trains will be running with total 24 coaches, consisting of One AC 2-tier coach, Four AC 3-tier coaches, Eleven Second class Sleeper coaches,Four General Second Class coaches,Two Second Class Luggage-cum-brake van-cum-disabled coaches, One Parcel Van and a Pantry Car.
