IRCTC, MobiKwik Partner on E-Cash Payments for Tatkal Bookings

IRCTC, MobiKwik Partner on E-Cash Payments for Tatkal Bookings

This tatkal facility is available between 8am-12pm IST daily on IRCTC

In a bid to tackle the tatkal rush, payments app MobilKwik and IRCTC have joined hands to offer an alternative payment solution while booking tickets. Now, apart from paying via netbanking, credit cards, and other wallets, users can now opt to pay directly from their MobilKwik wallet while booking tatkal tickets.

MobilKwik claims that users can pay with the wallet within 2 seconds, whereas other modes of payment take five to ten times more time. This new e-cash payment introduction will eradicate the need to fill in card details, and wait for the bank to approve the transaction through authentication. Instead, IRCTC will instantly deduct the amount from your MobilKwik wallet without any authentication as a prerequisite.

Of course, for this to work, the user must have installed the app and have money in the wallet for seamless and fast payment. For those uninitiated, tatkal is a service provided by the Indian Railway to book emergency confirmed tickets one-day prior to travel. MobilKwik claims that over 15 percent daily ticket bookings for Indian Railways happen under tatkal, and the e-cash payment option helps in giving the user an added leverage to beat the rush.

This facility is available on the IRCTC website, and users can book their tickets using MobilKwik between 8am-12pm IST daily. "MobiKwik collaborated with Indian Railways to digitize payments on the IRCTC app and IRCTC FoodOnTrack app this year, and now we are powering payments for tatkal online, that will help users book tickets almost instantly. We are proud to support the largest rail network in Asia in their endeavor to digitize payments and provide the best payments experience to their users," Upasana Taku, Co-founder at MobiKwik said in a statement.

Last year, IRCTC made MobiKwik wallet as the first payment option on IRCTC's Connect Android App. IRCTC also partnered with Paytm in September this year to allow users to book train tickets through the payment app and website. It had even tied up with Paytm last year to enable e-catering payments.

To make service faster, all the links, images, ads, services, features which are not helping or not required at the time of premium tatkal ticket booking have been removed from the home page.

Reduction In Tatkal Quota in Indian Railway

Reduction In Tatkal Quota in Indian Railway

Although Zonal Railways can earmark a maximum of 30% of available accommodation as Tatkal, yet Tatkal quota like all other reservation quotas is reviewed on a periodical basis so as to earmark it based on realistic demand pattern, by reducing it if required. In 2015-16, approximately 18.20% of the total accommodation has been earmarked as Tatkal quota (including Premium Tatkal). Moreover, adequate safeguards have been built in the scheme and various steps have been taken to avoid misuse of the Tatkal scheme, some of which are as under:

i.No refund is granted on cancellation of confirmed Tatkal ticket.

ii.The facility of change of name is not permitted on the booking made under Tatkal Scheme.

iii.The timings of opening of booking under Tatkal scheme on the opening day of reservation have been staggered to 1000 hours and 1100 hours on the previous day of journey from train originating station for AC and non-AC classes respectively.

iv.Authorised ticketing agents have been restricted from booking Tatkal tickets during the first thirty minutes of opening of Tatkal booking i.e. from 1000 hours to 1030 hours and from 1100 hours to 1130 hours.

v.Web service agents have been permitted to book only one Tatkal ticket per train per day.

vi.Maximum four passengers per PNR are permitted for Tatkal Tickets. Individuals are allowed only 2 Tatkal tickets per IP Address from 1000 hours to 1200 hours and maximum number of tickets allowed to an individual user is limited to 6 per month.

vii.CCTVs are installed at important PRS locations to monitor the activity of touts. Regular inspections/drives are conducted to unearth activity of malpractice.

Railway personnel arrest three touts

The Railway Protection Force (RPF) personnel attached to Mangaluru Central Railway Station on Saturday arrested three persons on the charge of selling train tickets to passengers for a premium.

An RPF official gave the names of the arrested as Kiran J. Bhat (35) of Chilimbi, Umesh (41) of Kankanady and Ravi Rajendra Shetty (30) of Kenjar.

Kiran was in possession of a second AC tatkal ticket from Mangaluru Central and Vadodara; Umesh possessed a three AC tatkal ticket between Mangaluru Central and Mumbai LTT and Ravi had a three AC tatkal ticket from Mangaluru Central and Mumbai CSTM, all for travel on Sunday.

The tickets were worth over Rs. 20,000 as each ticket had at least four passengers.

Police claimed that the accused used to buy tatkal tickets in advance and sell them for premium to genuine passengers.

The accused were produced before the jurisdictional magistrate and were remanded to three-day judicial custody.

According to RPF Police Sub-Inspector Bharat Raj, the accused either used to occupy the queue on their own or deploy their men as soon as the tatkal window opened.

Priority to wait-listed Tatkal tickets in EQ

Priority to wait-listed Tatkal tickets in EQ

The railways have gone one step ahead in making the emergency quota (EQ) system more responsive and commuter-friendly by giving priority to wait-listed Tatkal tickets.

Henceforth, wait-listed tickets purchased from travel agents will not be considered for allotment of seats and berths under EQ, according to the new railway guidelines. This is aimed at preventing misuse of EQ and to ensure that its benefits reach needy commuters.

The directive follows a decision of the railways to make the EQ facility more commuter-friendly and to provide senior citizens and the needy priority during allocation of lower berths and to open a helpline. The EQ facility has so far been confined to stations from where trains originate, major stations and divisional headquarters.

Senior Divisional Railway Manager, Thiruvananthapuram, V.S. Sudheesh said the railways had received an overwhelming response from commuters for the initiative.

“Requests for EQ from the offices of elected representatives and officials have come down drastically all of a sudden, and the railways are getting requests from the needy now. We are acknowledging requests mailed to us (seniordcmtvc@ gmail.com),” he said on Sunday.

Meanwhile, officials have been directed to ensure that the warrant of precedence and guidelines on allocation of EQ are followed strictly. Mails are being checked regularly.

The helpline number, 0471-2326484, which is available from 9.30 a.m. to 5 p.m. on weekdays for EQ assistance will now be extended to Sundays soon, he added.
