No Day Block on WR this Sunday
NIGHT BLOCK on FAST LINES BETWEEN MATUNGA ROAD AND MUMBAI CENTRAL (LOCAL) STATIONS
DURING MIDNIGHT OF 15th & 16TH DECEMBER, 2018
To carry out maintenance work of track, signalling & overhead equipment, five hours jumbo block will be taken on Up fast lines and 5th line between Matunga Road and Mumbai Central (Local) stations during midnight of Saturday, 15th December, 2018 & Sunday, 16th December, 2018 from 23.45 hrs to 03.45 hrs.
During the block, all Up fast line trains will run on Up slow line between Santacruz and Churchgate stations.Therefore, this Sunday, no day block is scheduled on W.Rly's Suburban Section. Detailed information to this effect is available with concerned Station Masters. Passengers are requested to take note of the above arrangements.

SUBWAY BETWEEN ANDHERI AND JOGESHWARI WILL REMAIN CLOSED FOR FOUR DAYS
Subway No.40 situated between Andheri and Jogeshwari will remain closed for road traffic from 00:00 hrs during 2nd & 3rd February, 2018 to 08:00 hrs of 6thFebruary, 2018 for 4 days approx. for re-girdering work on Up & Down through lines (Fast Line). During Re-girdering, machineries and equipment will be placed in the subway. Hence, the subway will be occupied by these equipments during the re-girdering work. The subway will thus be closed for vehicular road traffic. Inconvenience caused is deeply regretted by Western Railway.

To carry out maintenance work of track, signalling & overhead equipments, four hours jumbo block will be taken on Up fast line and fifth line between Santacruz and Goregaon stations during midnight of Saturday, 4th November, 2017 & Sunday, 5th November, 2017 from 23.30 hrs to 03.30 hrs.
During the block period, all fast line trains will run on slow lines between Goregaon and Santacruz stations and Down fifth line Mail/Express trains will run on Down fast line.
Detailed information to this effect is available with concerned Station Masters. Passengers are requested to take note of the above arrangements.

Punctuality on WR’s Churchgate-Borivali stretch is expected to improve with Signalling upgrade
Mumbai: Punctuality on Western Railways slow corridor is expected to improve in a year as the authorities have decided to improve the signalling system on the Churchgate-Borivali stretch.
More than 700 services run on the slow corridor but punctuality has been a problem, especially when a failure or a trespassing related incident happens.
WR’s divisional railway commissioner Shailendra Kumar said, “There are 86 signals on the Churchgate-Borivali slow stretch, which will have to rectified. The work will cost Rs 8 crore but it will take at least 18 months to complete this take this task.”
These 86 signal, on Up and Down corridor, have three aspect signal. It means that signal switches from red to yellow and green. WR wants to convert this signal to four aspect that allows signal to turn from red, yellow, double yellow to green
Shailendra Kumar said, “In the three aspect signal, the motorman has to restrict his speed. Whereas, in four aspect the motorman can run at faster speed, thus ensuring that there is no loss of punctuality.”
The present punctuality gets hindered because there as as many as 156 signal, of which almost half of them are on three aspect.
WR also runs Bombardier rakes, which have a speed restriction of 70 kmph on slow corridor. WR officials are hopeful that this speed restriction can be relaxed to 80 kmph once the work is completed.
The tenders are likely to be finalised in six months and thereafter it would take almost 8 to 12 months but impact on punctuality can be felt as and when the work progresses.
As of now, around 10-15 services lose punctuality but it has a cascading effect for longer period, especially during the peak hours when frequency comes down to 3-4 minutes. The signalling system beyond Borivali is not a problem.

Western Railway fails to commission new line, left red-faced
Western Railway authorities were left embarrassed and short of answers on Monday after they failed to commission the newly-constructed fifth line link between Bandra and Santa Cruz due to the protest on Sunday by residents of shanties through which the line passes.
The stretch of track is the missing link of the fifth line — also called the Suburban Track Avoidance line — that runs between Mumbai Central and Borivli and is used in both directions by long-distance trains. This missing link will ensure that long-distance trains don't come onto the fast tracks between Bandra and Santa Cruz and hit the punctuality schedules of suburban trains during the peak hours.

Central Railway will operate Mega Block on its suburban sections for carrying out maintenance work on Sunday 10.8.2014: -
MATUNGA-MULUND DN FAST LINE FROM 10.45 AM TO 3.15 PM
Dn fast line services leaving Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus from 10.08 am to 2.51 pm will be diverted on DN slow line at Matunga, halting at all stations from Sion to Mulund and arrive destination 20 Minutes behind schedule. Fast line services beyond Thane will be re-diverted on Dn fast line proper.
Up fast line services leaving Thane from 10.46 am to 3.25 pm will halt at Mulund, Bhandup, Vikhroli, Ghatkopar and Kurla stations in addition to their respective scheduled halts and arrive destination 15 minutes behind schedule.
