EXTRA COACHES FOR SPECIAL TRAINS

To ease the extra passenger congestion during the festive season, the following special trains have been added with extra coaches (resaved accommodation) as detailed below:

·Train No. 02668 / 02667 Coimbatore – Nagercoil – Coimbatore Special trains will have Two Sleeper Class Coaches and o­ne General Second Class Coach Ex. Nagercoil journey commencing from 30.10.2021 to 08.11.2021 and Ex. Coimbatore journey commencing from 31.10.2021 to 09.11.2021.

·Train No. 06616 / 06615 Coimbatore – Mannargudi – Coimbatore Special trains will have One Sleeper Class Coach on and from 02.11.2021to 09.11.2021 in both directions.

·Train No. 02084 / 02083 Coimbatore – Mayiladuturai – Coimbatore Special trains will have Two Second Class Sitting Chair Cars on 01st, 03rd and 07th November, 2021 in both directions.

·Train No. 02680 / 02679 Coimbatore – Dr. MGR Chennai Central – Coimbatore Special trains will have One Second Sitting Chair Car  on 03.11.2021 in both directions.

·Train No. 06618 / 06617 Coimbatore – Rameswaram – Coimbatore Special trains will have One General Second Class Coach Ex. Coimbatore journey commencing o­n 02.11.2021 and Ex. Rameswaram journey commencing o­n 03.11.2021.

·Train No. 02694 / 02693 Tuticorin – Chennai Egmore - Tuticorin Special trains will have One Sleeper Class Coach Ex. Tuticorin journey commencing o­n 30.10.2021 to 07.11.2021 and Ex. Chennai Egmore 02.11.2021 to 10.11.2021.

·Train No. 02633 / 02634 Chennai Egmore - Kanniyakumari – Chennai Egmore Special trains will have One Sleeper Class Coach Ex. Chennai Egmore journey commencing o­n 31.10.2021 to 08.11.2021. and Ex. Kanniyakumari journey commencing o­n 01.11.2021 to 09.11.2021.

·Train No. 02206 / 02205 Rameswaram – Chennai Egmore - Rameswaram Special trains will have One General Second Class Coach Ex. Rameswaram journey commencing o­n 31.10.2021 to 10.11.2021 and Ex. Chennai Egmore journey commencing o­n 31.10.2021 to 13.11.2021.

·Train No. 06723 / 06724 Chennai Egmore - Kollam – Chennai Egmore Special trains will have One Sleeper Class Coach Ex. Chennai Egmore journey commencing o­n 01.11.2021 to 11.11.2021. and Ex. Kollam journey commencing o­n 02.11.2021 to 12.11.2021.

·Train No. 06852 / 06851 Rameswaram – Chennai Egmore - Rameswaram Special trains will have One General Second Class Coach Ex. Rameswaram journey commencing o­n 31.10.2021 to 02.11.2021 and Ex. Chennai Egmore journey commencing o­n 01.11.2021 to 03.11.2021.

·Train No. 06866 / 06865 Thanjavur  – Chennai Egmore - Thanjavur Special trains will have One General Second Class Coach Ex. Thanjavur journey commencing o­n 31.10.2021 to 02.11.2021 and Ex. Chennai Egmore journey commencing o­n 01.11.2021 to 03.11.2021.

All the extra coaches will have reserved accommodation

Coastal shippers demand more Railway and Container facilities at Ports
NEW DELHI: Coastal shipping players want priority berthing and more free time at ports as India looks to increase the share of coastal cargo movement. This emerged at a conference organised here recently by CONCOR and Maritime Gateway.
Container Corporation of India (CONCOR), the PSU which started a weekly coastal shipping service in January, between Kandla and Tuticorin, is witnessing an increase in the total logistics costs as its ships face delay due to lack of dedicated infrastructure for coastal cargo at ports, where priority is given to foreign vessels to berth, according to CONCOR CMD V Kalyana Rama.
Higher charges
  • The ports give priority to foreign vessels as they pay higher charges to the ports.
  • “The Shipping Ministry’s proposal to provide 40 per cent lower port charges for coastal cargo vessels tends to get diluted when the terminals are operated by the partners in the public-private partnership model,” said PK Agrawal, Director-Domestic, CONCOR. The customs paperwork tends to vary for coastal cargo in different ports.
  • These hitches need to be cleared if India has to achieve the Shipping Ministry’s target of moving about 12 per cent of cargo through coastal shipping against the current seven per cent.
  • “Tuticorin Port is already working on a proposal to increase the free time that coastal cargo vessels get,” said TK Ramachandran, Chairman, VO Chidambaranar Port, erstwhile Tuticorin Port, adding that the proposal is awaiting the Board’s approval.
  • “CONCOR plans to expand its coastal shipping service to other ports as well,” said G Ravi Kumar, Executive Director, CONCOR.
  • Meanwhile, CONCOR plans to operationalise its coastal cargo service between India and Bangladesh this year.

Cargo shipping
  • The service is likely to run between Krishnapatnam Port on the East Coast and Chittagong Port in Bangladesh, and would consider calling on other ports like Paradip and Hadia if the demand arises.
  • It is also working on a proposal to send cargo to ports in Iran, from where it can be moved to Russia using the rail route.
  • Goods are already moving on this route between India and Russia, but CONCOR is not a part of it.

THREE IMPORTANT PROJECTS FOR SOUTHERN RAILWAY APPROVED BY CABINET

The Cabinet has approved three important projects for Southern Railway
1.Cabinet approves construction of doubling of line with electrification between Thiruvananthapuram and Kanniyakumari
The Cabinet Committee o­n Economic Affairs, chaired by the Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi, has approved the construction of double line with electrification between Thiruvananthapuram in Kerala and Kanniyakumari in Tamil Nadu.The total length of the line will be 86.56 km.  The estimated cost of the Project will be Rs.1431.90 crore and completion cost of Rs.1552.94 crore with 5% escalation per annum.  The project is likely to be completed in four years by 2020-21.  The project will generate direct employment during construction for 20.77 lakh mandays.
The project would not o­nly speed up the operation of goods and coaching trains, but also provide additional capacity for meeting the increase in traffic in future.The section is heavily passenger oriented which also serve the goods traffic from nearby ports.  Operations from Vizhinjam port is likely to start by 2019 and 30% of its gateway traffic is likely to be handled by Railways.  Present line capacity of Thiruvananthapuram-Nagarcoil section of this route has already saturated which is causing heavy detention to trains moving towards Kanniyakumari and Chennai.   Line capacity of this route needs to be enhanced to meet the demands for additional trains and smooth movement of trains through the route.  Hence, doubling of Thiruvananthapuram and Kanniyakumari line needs to be taken up.
2.Cabinet approves construction of doubling of line with electrification between Madurai-Vanchi and Maniyachchi-Tuticorin
The Cabinet Committee o­n Economic Affairs, chaired by the Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi, has approved the construction of double line with electrification between Madurai-Vanchi and Maniyachchi-Tuticorin in Tamil Nadu. 
The total length of the line will be 160 km. The estimated cost of the Project will be Rs.1182.31 crore and completion cost of Rs.1272.51 crore with 5% escalation per annum. The project is likely to be completed in four years by 2020-21. The project will generate direct employment during construction for 38.40 lakh mandays.
The project would not o­nly speed up the operation of goods and coaching trains, but also provide additional capacity for meeting the increase in traffic in future.
Demands are being received for introduction of additional trains for this area to serve the local people, the ever increasing tourists desiring to visit the area and the traffic originating to/from Ports. Present Line Capacity utilisation of the section o­n trunk route is 106% which is likely to increase to 154% in next four years. This would cause detention to passenger and goods trains o­n trunk route and that originating to/from Tuticorin Port in future if double line is not provided o­n this 160 km section. Hence, doubling of Madurai-Vanchi Maniyachchi-Tuticorin with electrification needs to be taken up.
3.Cabinet approves construction of doubling of line with electrification between Vanchi-Maniyachchi- Nagercoil via Tirunelveli
The Cabinet Committee o­n Economic Affairs, chaired by the Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi, has approved the construction of double line with electrification between Vanchi-Maniyachchi- Nagercoil via Tirunelveli in Tamil Nadu.
The total length of the line will be 102 km. The estimated cost of the Project will be Rs.1003.94 crore and completion cost of Rs.1114.62 crore with 5% escalation per annum. The project is likely to be completed in four years by 2020-21. The project will generate direct employment during construction for 24.48 lakh mandays.
The project would not o­nly speed up the operation of goods and coaching trains, but also provide additional capacity for meeting the increase in traffic in future.
Vanchi-Maniyachchi- Nagercoil via Tirunelveli is an important trunk route serving Southern end of Tamil Nadu and Kerala. The section is heavily passenger oriented which also serve the goods traffic from nearby ports. Present line capacity of the section has already gone beyond 90% which is causing detention to the moving trains. Line capacity of this route needs to be enhanced to meet the demands for additional trains and smooth movement of trains through the route. Hence, doubling of Vanchi-Maniyachchi- Nagercoil via Tirunelveli with electrification needs to be taken up.

SUMMER SPECIAL TRAINS

The following special trains will be run to clear the extra rush of passengers during the ensuing summer season.

1.Special fare special trains between Chennai Central and Kollam (via. Ernakulam Jn. & Alapuzha)
Train No.06037 Chennai Central – Kollam Special fare special train will leave Chennai Central at 16.30 hrs. o­n 6th, 20th & 27th April 2017 (Thursdays) and reach Kollam at 05.35 hrs. the next day.
Train No.06038 Kollam – Chennai Central Special Fare special train will leave Kollam at 12.55 hrs. o­n 7th, 14th, 21st& 28th April 2017 (Fridays) and reach Chennai Central at 04.55 hrs. the next day.
Composition:  First AC– 1, AC 2-tier – 3, AC 3-tier – 3, Sleeper Class – 12, General Second Class - 2 & Luggage-cum-brake van – 2 coaches.
Stoppages:  Katpadi, Salem, Erode, Coimbatore, Palakkad, Thrissur, Ernakulam Jn. and Alapuzha. Train No.06038 Kollam – Chennai Central Special fare special train will stop at Perambur also.

2.  Suvidha special train from Nagercoil to Chennai Egmore
Special fare special train from Chennai Egmore to Nagercoil (via. Tirunelveli, Madurai, Tiruchchirappalli, Mayiladuthurai, Villupuram)
Train No.82608 Nagercoil – Chennai Egmore Suvidha Special train will leave Nagercoil at 17.05 hrs. on 2nd, 9th, 16th, 23rd, 30th April 2017, 7th, 14th, 21st, 28th May 2017, 4th, 11th, 18th & 25th June 2017 (Sundays) and reach Chennai Egmore at 07.20 hrs. the next day.
Train No.06040 Chennai Egmore – Nagercoil Special fare special train will leave Chennai Egmore at 11.10 hrs. on 3rd, 10th, 17th & 24th April 2017 (Mondays) and reach Nagercoil at 04.15 hrs. the next day.

(in the state of Madhya Pradesh) and back, organised by the South Zone of IRCTC.  Four Sleeper Class coaches of this special train will be available for booking through PRS centres.  The round trip is classified into different legs i.e. Madurai to Chennai Central, Chennai Central to Kurnool City, Kurnool City to Parli Vaijnath and so on.

The final leg of the special train – from Chennai Central to Madurai - will be available for reservations by the public as detailed below.

Container Digital Exchange (CODEX) goes live in Tuticorin

Tuticorin: VO Chidamabaranar Port Trust in Tuticorin and Tuticorin Container Freight Station Association have jointly announced that India’s First Container Digital Exchange (Codex) went live on 1 July.

The platform was successfully processed in over 42,000 containers during pilot run of the project, thereby eliminating paper documents accompanying container movement at the port.

Association president David Raja in a press release said all the major stakeholders, including shippers, shipping lines and agents, will now have complete access to container movement through both online portal and the mobile application.

Kale Logistics Solutions, which developed Codex, announced the Go Live of the platform at the end of three months of pilot run.

The release said that the Go Live was executed today by the Chief Commissioner of Customs Chennai Pranab Kumar Das, VOC Port Trust S Anantha Chandra Bose and Commissioner of Customs Tuticorin KC Johny at a function in Tuticorin.

Container Digital Exchange (CODEX) is an EDI based electronic platform through which communication, information exchange, connectivity and electronic processing of key business transactions/operations can be facilitated between all container stake-holders at the Port and its related logistics value chain.

Last year, Tuticorin CFS Association (TCFSA) and Kale Logistics jointly signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to deliver India’s first Container Digital Exchange (CODEX), which will automate the container movement at Tuticorin Port and reduce the container dwell times considerably.

As per the MoU, TCFSA and Kale Logistics have agreed to co-operate with a view to provide a Digital Community platform to enable effective management of cargo information & documentation flows such that it eliminates/reduces manual paperwork considerably. This move promises to improve and contribute to the seamless movement of Export Import containers in and out of the Tuticorin Port from/to the Tuticorin based CFS/ICDs. The CODEX platform will electronically connect CFS/ICDs, Transporters, Port authority, Customs, Port terminal Operators and Security forces (Central Industrial Security Force-CISF).

This development is a path breaking and pioneering initiative in enabling ease of business, and following the Honorable Prime Minister’s initiative of “Digital India” Mr. S. Anantha Chandra Bose, Chairman, V.O.Chidamabaranar (Tuticorin) Port Trust said,  “Tuticorin is a progressive and  prominent port in the region. We have recently expanded the Port Gates and are introducing Toll Gate to enable Seamless access to the port. The Container Digital Exchange is the first of its kind initiative at an Indian Port which promises to reduce the current documentation process from 2 hours to almost 1/4th its time.”

Mr. David Raja, President – TCFSA stated, “We were impressed with the work Kale Logistics has done on Airport cargo handling side for Mumbai Airport and also at other port CFS/ICDs in India and abroad. They completely understand our business and that of our extended logistics value chain. With the CODEX platform, we look forward to better manage multiple document exchange between our members & trade partners, streamline the processes involved in container movement, track queue issue at port and reduce overall dwell time.”

Tuticorin (TN): Residents of Tuticorin and traders are expecting more rail infrastructure to connect Madurai and other cities since Tuticorin has been announced as one of the Smart Cities in India by the Centre, according to D.R.Kodeeswaran, Secretary, Indian Chamber of Commerce and Industry.

The much awaited project of new and short railway route between Tuticorin and Madurai via Aruppukottai should be prioritised with allocation of more funds.

This dream project would create a platform to improve the industrial growth in the southern region of Tamil Nadu since a strong industrial growth is envisaged from the Madurai-Tuticorin industrial corridor, Mr. Kodeeswaran told here on Sunday.

Moreover, the intercity railway link between Tuticorin and Madurai had become the most sought after service among people here, he said. “Since Madurai happens to be the next biggest city falling within 150 km and people have lots of business and other purposes in frequenting Madurai, all are looking forward to this development,” he said.

Doubling of rail track between Tuticorin and Madurai was gaining significance as it would ensure free flow of cargo traffic from Tuticorin seaport and passenger rail traffic.

To tide over delay of trains due to single track, doubling of rail track was essentially required, he reiterated.

In connection with the launching of precast boxes and slabs for Limited Use Subway between Srirangam and Tiruchchirappalli Town stations o­n 6.7.2015, the following changes have been made in train services o­n  Villupuram - Tiruchchirappalli section (chord line)

1. Trains diverted:

The following trains will be diverted via. Main line viz. Tiruchchirappalli, Thanjavur, Mayiladuturai & Villupuram o­n 6.7.2015 (Monday).
