Central Railway & India Post join hands for the first and last mile connectivity
In current situation of COVID-19 lockdown, individuals and commercial establishments are finding it difficult to move their large size consignments containing the essential and other items. Speed Post service is being widely used by a large number of public for sending their parcels. However, for consignments in highway weight slabs, the customers find it difficult to transport these items to the Post offices for booking.
Keeping in view the special parcel trains being operated by the Central Railway, the Central Railway and Maharashtra Postal Circle decided to synergise the capabilities of India Post and Indian Railways within Maharashtra State by offering India Post Railway Parcel Service w.e.f. 15/05/2020.
To begin with, India Post Railway Parcel Service shall be available from and between Mumbai, Pune and Nagpur stations, to be extended to other stations later. India Post shall pick up the consignments from the premises of the customers and deliver to the consignee at destination through special parcel trains being operated by the Central Railway and Postal Mail Motor Service. As a trial run, the consignment picked up from Hingana in Nagpur on 09.05.2020 was transported through India Post Railway Parcel Service and reached destination at Mumbai on 10.05.2020. Thus, the first and last mile of the journey will be covered by India Post and transported between the origin and destination station through Railways. This service enables the customers to avail transportation of the consignments at economical rate and with door service facility. This marks further diversification of postal services into the logistics segment in a bigger way since this scheme is economical for larger consignments of two quintals or more. This also underscores the coming together of Indian Railways, started in 1853, and India Post, started in 1854, to offer convenience and value to customers.

The Department of Posts comes under essential services and reiterated at para -11 (iii) of MHA OM No. 40-3/2020-DM-I (A) dated 15.04.2020. The Postal employees including Gramin Dak Sevaks are performing various duties to provide customers mail delivery, Post Office Saving Bank, Postal Life Insurance, the ease of money withdrawal at his/her doorstep from any bank and any branch under the AePS facility. Additionally, the Post Office is also delivering COVID-19 kits, food packets, rations and essential medicines etc. across the country by liasioning with local State administration and police authorities. Thus, Post Office is performing departmental duties as well as serving the social cause in the COVID-19 crisis times.
In the context of COVID -19 situation, it has been decided to extend payment of compensation of Rs.10 lakhs to all Postal employees including Gramin Dak Sevaks (GDS) succumbing to the disease while brought on duty. The guidelines will come into effect immediately and continue for the entire period till the crises of COVID-19 is over.

PRIMARY OUT-PATIENT CARE TO THE GENERAL PUBLIC AT CGHS WELLNESS CENTRES FOR DENGUE FEVER AND CHIKUNGUNYA AND SYMPTOMS LIKE DENGUE AND CHIKUNGUNYA
Government has initiated various steps to deal with the situation arising out of spread of Dengue Fever , Chikungunya Fever and Swine-flu and their complications.
As one of the initiatives in this regard., all doctors at various CGHS Wellness Centres shall provide consultation services and primary outpatient medical care to all citizens – whether CGHS beneficiaries or not – who may visit the Wellness Centres with symptoms of Dengue Fever , Chikungunya or Swine-flu primarily high fever.
CGHS Wellness Centres will function from 7.30.A.M. to 2 P.M. on all working days.

At present, Indian Railways is having ticket reservation facility at 3604 locations across the country. The computerised reservation centres are provided as per policy at District Headquarters, important hill stations/tourist & pilgrimage centres/post offices on the basis of proposals received from public/public representatives and the zonal railways as per technical feasibility and commercial justification. Additionally, online reserved ticketing has become very popular and about 58% of reserved tickets are now booked online by passengers from comfort of their homes. Hence, it is no longer required to travel to reservation office for booking of reserved accommodation on trains.
In addition to this Indian Railways also started railway ticket reservation facility at 08 post offices in following locations in Chattisgarh: Jashpur Nagar, Korba, Bemetara Baloda Bazar, New Mantralaya, Kanker, Kawardha, Khairagarh

Atal Pension Yojana:Rs 100 crore released towards Government of India co-contribution in APY
Atal Pension Yojana is being implemented through the APY Service Providers comprising of Public Sector Banks, Private Sector Banks, Regional Rural Banks, Cooperative Banks and Department of Post both in urban and rural areas across the country. The total number of subscribers registered under APY as on 30th June 2016 has crossed 30 lakh and every day nearly 5000 new subscribers are added.
The scheme provides for a co-contribution from Government of India for those who have registered before 31/3/2016 with an amount of 50% of the subscribers contribution up-to a maximum of Rs. 1000/- and these subscribers will be eligible for co-contribution for a period of 5 years from 2015-16 to 2019-20. Only those subscribers who are not income tax payers and not part of any other social security schemes are eligible for Government of India co-contribution. Keeping in view the above, Government of India through PFRDA has released co-contribution for the FY 2015-16 for 16.96 lakh eligible subscribers amounting to Rs. 99.57 crores. The Subscribers who have any pending contributions in their APY account till March 2016 won't be paid with co-contribution. They have been advised by PFRDA to regularize their APY account so as to get Government of India co-contribution in the month of September. Government of India co-contribution is payable only when accounts are regular and the admissible Government of India co-contribution is paid into the Savings Bank account of the Subscribers.
Atal Pension Yojana, provides minimum guaranteed pension ranging between Rs. 1000/- to Rs. 5000/- per month for the subscriber from the age of 60 years. The Same amount of pension is paid to the spouse in case of subscriber’s demise. After the demise of both i.e. Subscriber & Spouse, the nominee would be paid the pension corpus. There is also option for Spouse to continue to contribute in APY account of subscriber for balance period, on premature death of subscriber before 60 years, so that pension can be availed by Spouse. Also, if the actual returns on the pension contributions during the accumulation phase is higher than the assumed returns for the minimum guaranteed pension, such excess returns are passed on to the subscriber, resulting in enhanced scheme benefits.

In six months, those having accounts with post offices can use their postal debit cards to withdraw cash from Automated Teller Machines (ATM) operated by banks too.
With the inauguration of an ATM facility at the Park Town head post office on Monday, all the city’s nine head post offices, including the ones at Mylapore, Avadi and St.Thomas Mount, have ATMs now.
In the Park Town head post office, to start with, 250 customers will be provided with debit cards and more customers will get theirs soon. Charles Lobo, chief postmaster general, Tamil Nadu circle, inaugurated the ATM and distributed debit cards.
Once the facility of interoperable ATMs are in place, bank customers can withdraw cash from ATMs at post offices too, said Mervin Alexander, postmaster general (Chennai City Region) at the function.
At present, there are 52 lakh postal savings account holders in the Chennai city region. Of these, nearly 16,000 account holders have been provided with debit cards.
Officials of the postal department say that such cards were given to those who maintain a minimum balance of Rs. 500. Steps are being taken to create more awareness about postal ATMs among customers.
Customers are likely to soon enjoy the benefits of net banking with the department now operating it on a trial basis. Post offices in the Chennai north division are conducting a campaign to get residents, especially autorickshaw drivers and vendors in the Park Town area, to take up Pradhamar Natchathra Paadhukappu.
