Training programme on Donning and Doffing of Personal Protective Equipment in Metro Rly Hospital
With a view to keep medical staff fully prepared to tackle any emergency, if arises, due to the outbreak of COVID -19 , a training-cum-interactive session was organised at Tapan Sinha Memorial Hospital, Metro Railway on 04.04.2020.
This training programme was conducted to train the medical staff of Metro Railway on Donning and Doffing of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
In this interactive session, Medical staff, especially grass root level workers were apprised of the action plan being undertaken and the expected role of different categories of staff was also explained.Grass root level workers raised different types of queries on this matter which were answered by the doctors and medical experts present in this Training Programme. All the Medical staff and doctors of Metro Railway participated in this training-cum-interactive session.

More doctors and paramedics being recruited on a temporary basis by various zones
Around 5,000 beds in 17 dedicated hospitals and 33 hospital blocks in Railway Hospitals identified for treatment of COVID-19 patients getting ready any contingency
5000 train coaches across Indian Railways to be converted as quarantine/isolation facilities for COVID-19; 3250 coaches already completed
Coach Factories, Railway workshops, coaching depots and hospitals have all risen to the occasion locally producing PPEs type overalls, sanitizers and masks etc to supplement the national efforts

Sustaining the fight against COVID-19,Indian Railways is making an all out effort to supplement the health care efforts of Government of India. The spectrum of steps include equipping the existing Railway Hospitals to meet the needs for COVID-19, earmarking of hospital beds to meet the contingencies, recruitment of additional doctors & paramedics, modification of passenger coaches as isolation coaches, availability of medical equipments, in-house production of PPEs and Ventilators, etc.
Health Department of Railways is getting ready and equipped to supplement the healthcare efforts of Government of India in its fight against COVID-19 .It may be noted that Railways have a chain of 586 Health Units, 45 Sub Divisional Hospitals, 56 Divisional Hospitals, 8 Production Units Hospitals and 16 Zonal Hospitals spread all over the country. A significant portion of these facilities will now be dedicated to combat the Corona virus.
With a total of 2546 posts of Doctors and 35153 paramedic staff including Nursing staff, Pharmacist and other category of staff, Railways is ready to face any challenge in the fight against COVID-19. In a new initiative Railway Health Services have been made available to all Central Government Employees across the country now. The services include Primary, Secondary, and tertiary care in certain Specialties.
Following initiatives have been taken by Indian Railways in the fight against COVID-19:-
1. Conversion of coaches to serve as quarantine/isolation facilities: Indian Railways is converting 5000 train coaches across the country to serve as quarantine/isolation facilities for 80000 beds for COVID-19.Action has been started by Zonal Railways on a war footing. Conversion of 3250 coaches has already been completed.
2. 5000 beds earmarked for treatment of COVID patients: Around 5,000 beds in 17 dedicated hospitals and 33 hospital blocks in Railway Hospitals have been identified for treatment of COVID-19 patients. These hospitals and blocks are being made ready for this purpose.
3. 11,000 quarantine beds: 11,000 quarantine beds have been made available across the Indian Railways establishments to fight COVID-19.
4. Availability of medical equipment-Ventilators and PPEs: Availability of sufficient number of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), Ventilators etc. would be critical in fight against COVID-19. Action has been taken by Railway zones and production units to procure ventilators, PPEs and medical equipment to meet their needs to fight COVID-19.
5.It may be noted that Railways has already started In-house production of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE). It is striving to produce around 1000 PPEs per day which may be upscaled further.
6.Railway Health Services offered to all Central Government Employees: Railway Health Services have been made available to all Central Government Employees across the country on showing their Identity cards at the Railway Hospitals/Health Centres.

Indian Railways in a race against time to make In-house PPE overall
Railways strives to make up to 1000 such protective overall for Railway Doctors & Paramedics every day
As a need of the hour gesture, Railways is considering to supply 50% of the overalls to other medical professionals on the front line
Jagadhari based Railway workshop was the first to make such an overall . Around 17 railway workshops are now gearing up to do so
Indian Railways has taken up the in-houseproduction of PPE type overall on a mission mode. An overall produced by Jagadhari workshop was recently cleared by a DRDOlab, authorised for the purpose. Approved design and material will now be used for making this protective overall by other workshops under different zones. This PPE overall will offer much needed protection to Railway Doctors and paramedics working on the front line of COVID care at hospitals of Railways.
Facilities are being geared up in Railways to make up to 1000 such protective overall for Railway Doctors & Paramedics every day. Around 17 workshops would be striving to contributeto this exercise. Railways is considering to supply 50% of the innovated PPE garment to other medical professionals of the country. Material for all the overalls is being procured centrally at Jagadhari which is located near many big textile industries in Punjab.
In the days to come, the production facilities can be further ramped up. The development of this overall and innovation by Indian Railways is being welcomed by other Government agencies engaged in the war against COVID. Technical specifications of these PPEs are now ready, and material suppliers are in place. Now the production can start in right earnest. This development is big boost to equip our doctors and paramedics on the front line of this battle against Covid -19.
Indian Railways is aiming to produce three sets per sewing machine per hour for as many days as required in its Production Units & Workshops. It may be noted this internal effort of Railways is over and above a centralised request projected to Government of India and also indicated to HLL through Indent. Development of this kind of PPE in a quick time can set a benchmark for others to follow and this will help boost the production of one the most vital protection for those on the front line.

WORKSHOP ON WOMEN’S HEALTH AWARENESS AT TAPAN SINHA MEMORIAL HOSPITAL OF METRO RAILWAY
As part of the ongoing International Women’s Day Campaign, 2020 Metro Railway organized a workshop on Women health awareness at Tapan Sinha Memorial Hospital on 05.03.2020 where ladies staff of Metro Railway participated.
Dr. Sipra Biswas , ACMS , Dr. Monita Dutta , Gynae , Dr. Chaitali Patra , ADMO , Dr. Anamika Das , Psychiatrist were present in the workshop. They gave their valuable speeches to make lady staff aware about certain health issues. They also interacted with the lady staff and gave them valuable advices to solve these issues.
