Introduction of MEMU Service between Coimbatore and Mettupalayam
Mettupalayam, on the foothills of Nilgiris is the gateway to Nilgiri Mountain Railway. NMR, the UNESCO listed Mountain Railway System gets scores of tourist footfalls from all over the world. Coimbatore Junction, the major railhead near Mettupalayam is well connected by train services from major destinations in South India. Presently, there are 5 train services interconnecting Coimbatore and Mettupalayam that include Blue Mountain (Nilgiri) Express and 4 Passenger trains.
To handle the extra rush of passengers travelling to NMR destinations, a new MEMU service will be run between Coimbatore Junction and Mettupalayam from 01.02.2020. The details are mentioned below:
  • T.No.66622 Coimbatore – Mettupalayam MEMU service (Daily) will depart from Coimbatore Junction at 20.25 hrs and with Stoppages at Coimbatore North Junction (20.31/20.32), Tudiyalur (20.36/20.37), Periyanayakanpalayam (20.41/20.42), Karaimadai (20.52/20.53) and reach Mettupalayam at 21.15 hrs the same day.
  • T.No. 66623 Mettupalayam – Coimbatore MEMU service (Daily) will depart from Mettupalayam at 19.00 hrs and with Stoppages at Karaimadai (19.09/19.10), Perianayakanpalayam (19.19/19.20), Tudiyalur ( 19.24/19.25), Coimbatore North Junction (19.29/19.30) will reach Coimbatore at 19.50 hrs the same day.

Understanding the tourism potential of the state in terms of the temples it houses, it has been decided by IRCTC to launch the maiden Temple tour covering Tamilnadu in the name of “Ram Sethu Express –Tamil Nadu Temple Tour” o­n 28.02.2019 early morning (00.15 hrs) from Chennai (Tambaram Railway Station) and return o­n 03.03.2019 late evening (22.30 hrs).

Indian Railways provide exclusive coaches that can be attached to regular trains for large groups travelling together and availing the convenience of travelling according to one’s own itinerary. These tourist cars are available in second class, Sleeper class, first class &
Air conditioned classes. Special coaches can not be attached to certain trains due to operational restrictions.Applications for such coaches must reach the Chief Passenger Transportation Manager in the zonal headquarters of the tour
originating station, at least 60 days in advance and not more than six months prior to the commencement of the journey. The application must include details such as destination, route to be followed , halts enroute and the specific train to which the tourist car/
railway carriage is to be attached. An initial payment of Rs. 10,000/- per coach as security deposit is to be made to the Station Manager of the originating station. In special cases, coaches can be arranged at shorter notice with the approval of the competent
authority.

NBT Bureau, Lucknow: Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC) will run Bharat Darshan Train for pilgrims to have a glimpse of seven Jyotirlingas next month. For every 11 night-12 day trip, every devotee will have to spend 11,340 rupees. There will be a stay at the dharamshalas along with a sleeper status and vegetarian breakfasts, lunch and dinner facilities. IRCTC Chief Regional Manager Ashwani Srivastava said that on the 2th of June, Bharat Darshan will be offering Visarshan special devotees to Mahakaleshwar, Omkareshwar, Nageshwar, Somnath, Bhimashankar, Trimbakeshwar and Ghrishneshwar Jyothirlinga. This train will return on June 13. Visitors will be shown Dwarkadhish Temple in Dwarka, Sabarmati Ashram in Ahmedabad and Sai Temple in Shirdi. In the train, Varanasi, Jaunpur, Shahganj, Akbarpur, Ayodhya, Barabanki, Lucknow, Seating will be available from Kanpur and Jhansi. After landing from the train, people will be taken away from non-AC buses.

To afford the pleasure of steam engine rides during the current tourist season in the northern region, the Indian Railways is currently running Steam Trains between Delhi Cantt. and Rewari and back on the 2nd Saturday of each month from October to April 2017. After a celebratory first run tomorrow o­n 14.10.2017, the next days of run of the Steam train between Delhi Cantt. and Rewari and back are scheduled o­n 28.10.2017, 25.11.2017, 23.12.2017, 27.01.2018, 24.02.2018, 24.03.2018 and 28.04.2018 respectively.The train hauled by steam locomotive will begin its journey from Delhi Cantonment at 10.30 AM and will reach reach at Rewari at 1 PM. In the return journey, it will start from Rewari at 4.15 PM and shall reach Delhi Cantonment at 6.15 PM.

Maharajas’ Express , operated by Railways PSU, IRCTC, to begin its Two new tour circuits focussing especially on Domestic Travellers from June this year.

The Indian Railway PSU, Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation Ltd (IRCTC) has decided to start two new circuits of their flagship luxury train Maharajas’ Express, this year. These two new trips have been named as “Southern Sojourn” and “Southern Jewels” which will cover prominent destinations in West and South India. The Southern Sojourn will cover Goa, Hampi, Mysore, Ernakulam, Kumarakom and Trivandrum. The Southern Jewels will cover Chettinad, Mahabalipuram, Mysore, Hampi and Goa.

Maharajas’ Express is known for recreating the royal journeys of yesteryears.  Though the regular trip of these two new journeys will take place in September 2017 for this year, however two new tour circuits with a view to cater especially to domestic travellers are being planned during monsoon period of June/July 2017.

Tariff in Indian Rupees has been introduced for the Monsoon Special itineraries. Lucrative offers to attract domestic travellers have also been planned. On the booking of first adult on twin sharing at full cost, the second adult sharing the same cabin will be on Complimentary Basis. Moreover, a guest booking a Deluxe Cabin gets a chance to upgrade to a Junior Suite by paying only 50 % of the difference in tariff between Junior Suite and Deluxe Cabin.

For the very first time part journey has been introduced in the Monsoon Special itineraries of Maharajas' Express. Passengers are allowed to avail part of the total journey on a fixed price of  USD 500 / ₹ 33250.00 per day per person on twin sharing basis. On single occupancy basis the charges would be USD 800 / ₹ 53200.00. The prices are exclusive of taxes and limited to a maximum of 2 nights 3 days

The Southern Sojourn – Monsoon Special shall start from Mumbai on 24th June 2017 & stop at Goa, Hampi, Mysore, Cochin, Alleppey before terminating at Trivandrum. The Southern Jewels – Monsoon Special shall depart from Trivandrum on 1st July 2017 and terminate at Mumbai covering Chettinad, Mahabalipuram, Mysore, Hampi and Goa. Each journey shall be of 8 Days/7 Nights duration.

The regular trip of Southern Sojourn will start from Mumbai on 9 Sep 2017 and Southern Jewels will start from Trivandrum on 16 Sep 2017.

In addition to visits to monuments and sight-seeing at each destination under these trips, the guests shall have an opportunity to enjoy traditional cultural performances at Cochin, visit a Coir Factory and enjoy a cruise with lunch at Alleppey, savour traditional Chettinad Cuisine demo and much more on these fabulous journeys.

For Guests booking online or directly through phone, a special facility is being offered free of cost in the form of redeemable voucher of USD 250 (approx Rs. 16000/-) for each individual guest. Although the vouchers cannot be encashed they can be redeemed against all off-board optionals, liquor bills, on-board boutique purchases and laundry bills.

Maharajas’ Express commenced its operations in 2010, and since then the train has become the Leading Luxury Train of the World with comparisons to the Royal Scotsman and the Eastern and Oriental Express. Get a taste of India’s rich cultural heritage by touring in IRCTC’s The Maharajas’ Express

If you want to experience one of the world’s greatest train journeys, try the Indian Railways’ very own “the Maharajas’ Express. It was voted as the “World's Leading Luxury Train” at the World Travel Awards for the fourth consecutive year in 2015. Every year ,about 1,000 travellers from across the world flock to India to ride this train and get a taste of India’s rich cultural heritage.

The train runs five tours covering different destinations in the North and West of India. For instance, “The Heritage of India” starts at Mumbai and makes it way to Ajanta, Udaipur, Ranthambore, Jodhpur, Bikaner, jaipur, Agra before reaching Delhi.

The tariff for the different tours range from $3,850-6,840 for the basic cabins and $12,900-$23,700 for the premium ones. Tariffs for Indian nationals range from ₹2.5-4.5 (four days and eight days) lakh for basic cabins and ₹8.5-15.75 lakh for presidential suites. The suites usually accommodate two people, while presidential suites have space for four.

While there are three other luxury trains in India operated by respective state tourism development corporations — The Golden Chariot (Karnataka), The Deccan Odyssey (Maharashtra) and Royal Rajasthan on Wheels (Rajasthan), Maharajas’ Express is a class apart.
Extravagance
Riding one of their tours, which usually lasts for seven to eight days, can make you feel like a King. Its train has about 43 cabins to accommodate 88 guests. Cabins are categorised as deluxe, junior suite and presidential suite with facilities including wifi, direct dial international phones and personal safe.

The carved wooden panels on windows and marble tile floorings give it the look of a five-star hotel. The presidential suite on the train has 448 sq ft of cabin area along with a living room, two bed rooms and wash rooms. Guests in the presidential suite get a 24-hour personal valet service and a guide who can speak their language.

Inside the train are two restaurants — ‘Rang Mahal and ‘Mayur Mahal’ — that serve Indian and international cuisine. Hand-painted fresco ceiling of the ‘Rang Mahal’— with its light yellow lights and red carpets — is bright and refreshing.

To unwind, walk into either the ‘Rajah Club’ or ‘Safari Bar’— a thematic bar — where you can also grab books to read a line or two or play board games. There is something on offer for the teetotaller too — some fresh mocktail. To make guests feel comfortable throughout the journey, the train has a pneumatic hydraulic suspension that ensures the best quality ride.

The Maharajas’ Express’ cabins are the biggest among all luxury trains in the world (at least that is what Indian Railways claims). And to ensure that guests have a delightful experience, sight-seeing is also arranged on high-end luxury cars and Volvo coaches . The icing on the cake is the opportunity to meet the Royal family at Jaipur and Balasinor (if it is part of the tour).
What you can see
The Maharaja’ Express runs between October and first week of April (the schedule for the next one year is available on the website www.the.maharajas.com). There are six different tours that the Maharajas’ Express operates — ‘Treasures of India’ (4 days/3 nights), ‘Gems of India’ (4 days/3 nights), ‘The Indian Panorama’ (8 days/7 nights), ‘The Indian Splendour’ (8 days/7 nights), ‘The Heritage of India’ (8 days/ 7 nights), and ‘The Jewels of India’ (7 days /6 nights). The departure dates for each of these tours are listed well in advance.

‘The Jewel of India’ tour was introduced recently; it covers six destinations from Delhi, including Agra, Jaipur, Jodhpur and Udaipur. This is currently open only for one trip in March next year. Here, guests get to see Taj Mahal, Fatehpur Sikri (the capital of the Mughal Emperor Akbar) at Agra on day 2, while embarking on a safari at Ranthambore National Park (Rajasthan) — located at the junction of the Aravalli and Vindhya hill range — on day 3. Over the next three days, the train covers the remaining destinations taking guests to the ‘must visit’ spots including the sprawling palaces in Jaipur.
Surprise-Surprise
At each destination you stop — irrespective of the tour you choose — you will have a surprise awaiting you. It could be dancers in a sparkling yellow-gold costume or musicians to welcome you with garlands and the beating of drums.

Moreover, as part of the package, enjoy champagne breakfast at Agra overlooking the Taj Mahal or get an opportunity to play with elephants (by feeding them bananas or going on an elephant ride ) at City Palace, Jaipur. Kolkata: Now, plan your trip within Kolkata on Google maps on your phone. With all data of routes under state transport utilities available on Google, one can touch and select the public transport bus or tram services he/she wants to avail to reach his/her destination. The map suggests the best route to reach one's destination, giving citizens a respite from rogue taxi or auto drivers who swindle passengers by taking winding routes to take them to their destinations.
The state transport department, a month ago, shared data on bus and tram services with Google, which later put them on its map. The Google representatives, said a source, held the meeting with state officials at Paribahan Bhawan.
But how will it help the commuters? One needs to put the origin and destination on the map. Google map will give options to reach the destination - multiple routes under different modes of transport on real-time basis. Google will also give the approximate time to be taken by each mode of transport.
"For a tourist, the system will come very handy to reach any place of interest from any point of the city. For an office-goer, it will be only a matter of few seconds to know the route he must take to reach his or her office. Eventually, one can also locate the bus he needs to catch on the map," said managing director of West Bengal State Transport Corporation Narayan Swarup Nigam.
Already, the state transport department has shared the details of route, fleet size and stoppage details of buses and trams under state transport utilities (STUs) with Google. Gradually, Metro rail, ferry services, suburban trains will also be embedded in the system, there to give a commuter a holistic picture about his best possible route to take, said a transport department officer.
This development comes at a time when several technology-driven passenger amenities are being developed by the transport department. The STUs are already working on GPS-based smart-transit system which will help a commuter locate his or her bus on the map and plan the trip accordingly.
The state transport department, with the help of World Bank, will do a study on bus-route rationalization and integration of bus services with other modes of transport like Metro and ferry services. Google Maps will eventually adopt the data of rationalized routes. Google will give real-time picture of snarls on road and thoroughfares to avoid so that a commuter finds a less-congested route to travel to his destination.
"We have a plan to make all private buses GPS-enabled so that they also come under this mapping system. The autos will also be brought under this system and that's why a number of studies are being undertaken. These studies will also make clear the modal split of the transportation," said a source.

Secretary to the President, Smt. Omita Paul held a meeting today (30.06.2016) with 24 prominent tour operators at Rashtrapati Bhavan in order to publicize three tourist circuits that are being developed within Rashtrapati Bhavan. The three new tourist circuits will be the Rashtrapati Bhavan main building, museums and the gardens which the visitors can see singly or in combination.

These circuits will be inaugurated on 25th July, 2016. Addressing the tour operators, Ms. Omita Paul, Secretary to the President said the Rashtrapati Bhavan is looking forward to serving as a major tourist destination. She asked them to create greater awareness and attract visitors from both India and abroad.

The Secretary to the President informed the tour operators that since the beginning of the 13th Presidency in July 2012, the efforts of the President Shri Pranab Mukherjee have been to demystify every aspect of Rashtrapati Bhavan and bring it closer to the general public. It was important as many people as possible have the opportunity to view this great monument of living heritage. Visitors to Rashtrapati Bhavan now have the convenience of booking and paying for their visits online. In addition to the Rashtrapati Bhavan building, now two museum complexes and beautifully manicured gardens of Rashtrapati Bhavan will be added to the tourist circuits.
