1.Be in possession of complete details of reservations made in the coach and make all occupation details in the reservation chart along with number of vacant berths/seats.
2.Check the travel authority of the passengers in the coach, guide them to their berths/seats and also prevent unauthorized persons traveling in the coach.
3.Realise fare and any other charges due from the passenger and give receipt for the same.
4.Allot accommodations which are vacant to RAC passengers on demand at intermediate stations on realization of fare, surcharge,  reservation charges as per rules on first come first serve basis or according to the priority in the waiting list.
5.Pay prompt attention to all complaints from passengers in regard to non-working of lights, fans, tap etc., and take remedial action to get them rectified. Ensure cleanliness in the coach and also ensure the doors of the coaches are kept closed while on run. The doors of the vestibules are to be kept closed between 22.00hrs. and 06.00 hrs.
6.Always be polite, tactful and courteous in assisting passengers, leaving no room for complaint.
7.Wake up passengers to alight as requested.

Faridabad, July 17

Prem Singh Meena (45), a travel ticket examiner (TTE) on board of the Dehradun- Bandra Express train was pushed off the running train near Old Faridabad here last night, allegedly by pickpockets. He has been admitted to a private hospital with multiple fracture and injuries. His condition is stated to be stable.

The TTE was checking the tickets as the train bound to Mumbai crossed the Tuglakabad station and was approaching Old Faridabad when six youths approached him. He said he was standing near the gate of S-8 sleeper coach when one of accused called him by name and asked for tickets as he claimed that they could not procure the tickets before boarding the train.

Meena said while he started preparing the tickets and asked for money, one of the them took him close to the door and pushed him out of the train. Meena, who is under treatment at Fortis- Escorts Hospital, told the police that the youths who had thrown him out of the train could be part of a gang of pickpockets and thieves active on trains on section of the railway network.

New Delhi: The 'High-occupancy' traind all over Indian railways which include prominent trains from Lucknow division like superfast Lucknow Mail and Pushpak Express will have a facility in place that will not require passengers 'bargain' over vacent berths aboard the train with the Train Ticket Examiner(TTEs).

Most of the passengers will not deny that 'requesting' a TTE to allot a vacant berth in a train is aharrowing experience.To cut down the role of TTE and make the allotment of vacant berths a transparent process,railways have started giving hand-held machines to TTE's to update the information regarding berths left vacant in a train due to passengers who do not show up.

TTE will have to update the status of vacant berth which gets updated on the hand-held will show in the railways reservation system as well as in the charting of the next station in the route of the train.It will also show at the current reservation counter at the station.Facility will soon be launched in trains from Lucknow division.'This will make allotment of vacant berths a transparent process," said senior divisional commercial manager(DCM) Northern Railways,Lucknow,Ashwini Srivastava.

TTEs will neither be able to hide the information nor extort money  from passengers for alloting vacent berths.TTEs on-board high-occupancy trains will get the machines first. Railways have already conducted trials for the new move in few trains.

NHRC directs CRB to pay Rs.4 lakh Compensation in a case where TTE threw a man out of running train

Bhubaneswar (BBS): National Human Rights Commission has directed Chairman of Railway Board to pay compensation of Rs. 4 lakh to Benudhar Bhoi, who was thrown out of a running train by a train ticket examiner (TTE) for not having a valid ticket in Odisha.

Although NHRC had recommended the award of compensation more than two years ago, the Indian Railways was delaying the payment of compensation on different pretexts.

In its latest direction, the Commission asked the Chairman, Railway Board, New Delhi to submit the compliance report along with proof of payment of compensation within six weeks.

It was alleged that Mr. Bhoi sustained serious injuries after being pushed by on-duty TEE from train at Jajpur-Keonjhar Road under Khurda Road Division on May 11, 2009. The Government Railway Police that conducted the investigation found that there was prima facie evidence suggesting that the victim was indeed thrown out of the train. Mr. Bhoi, an unemployed youth, had lost one leg due to the injury.

Indian Railways, however, said the victim met with the accident while getting down hastily from the train. He was travelling without any ticket. The Indian Railways had submitted that there was delay in payment of compensation since a local court was adjudicating the matter.

NHRC observed that there is a prima facie case of human rights violation; and the results of the criminal case in the local court as well as the claims case before the Railway Claim Tribunal had nothing to do with the compensation recommended to the victim. The commission has ordered immediate payment of compensation.

Mumbai: The railway establishment was left embarrassed after the wife of one of its hierarchy’s top-most officers was robbed in the prestigious 12951 Mumbai-New Delhi Rajdhani Express, in the wee hours of Friday.

Preeti Sood, the wife of Central Railway General Manager S.K.Sood, was in coach A3, when her purse containing cash, debit and credit cards and a gold bangle, were apparently stolen when the train was somewhere between Ratlam in MP and Kota in Rajasthan. Another passenger, Dipika Chawla, also lost her purse around the same time. The train, which left Mumbai Central around 5pm on Thursday, traverses the Ratlam to Kota stretch between half-an-hour past midnight and around 3:30am.

A station house officer at New Delhi railway police station told that as per the reports filed by the two ladies, the losses for Sood included Rs.10,000 in cash and a 15 gram gold bangle. Chawla reported a loss of Rs.50,000 in cash and a 20 gram gold chain.

Officials said that since the 2nd AC coaches still have curtains unlike the 3rd AC ones, which have no curtains, thus making the job easier for the thieves as it might have been difficult for passengers to see them with the curtains drawn.

Incidentally, the WR Senior Commandant of the Railway Protection Force (RPF) Anand Vijay Jha, was travelling in the same train. Officials said Jha played sleuth and questioned several of the staff to get a clearer understanding of the theft but was unable to make much headway. The commotion, however, forced the thieves to leave the two purses in the toilet of the same coach with all their items intact expect the cash. A senior RPF officer said that it is possible that the thieves might have had a ticket and managed to gotten off either at Kota or Delhi.
