Students permitted to travel in Chennai Suburban Network

In view of popular demand, Students will be permitted to travel in Chennai Suburban train services effective from 15th February, 2021.  Students, both male and female, will be allowed to travel throughout the day including peak hours in Chennai suburban trains. 

Students are required to carry valid Photo Identity Card issued by their educational institution and produce the same at ticket booking counters while purchasing tickets or passes.  The ID card should also be produced along with ticket/pass during journey for verification by Ticket examiner.

Students are requested to strictly adhere to all the COVID standard safety protocols such as wearing of masks and social distancing.  

In view of COVID pandemic situation, Southern Railway has been permitting various categories of passengers in a phased manner in Chennai Suburban services.  It may be noted that all women passengers have already been allowed to travel in Chennai Suburban train services throughout the day without time restrictions.

 Unique features of Academic Programmes at NRTI

National Rail and Transportation Institute (NRTI), Vadodra has launched  7 new Programmes, 2 B. Tech UG Programmes, 2 MBA and 3 MSc Programmes on core applied sector.

The 2 B Tech Programs are focused on Rail Infrastructure, Rail Systems and Communications Engg, while the MBA programs are focused at Transportation and Supply Chain Management which are of highest priority in the coming years, the MSc Programs are focused on the Systems Engineering and Integration, Systems and Analytics, Policy and Economics which are the core areas the Nation is looking forward to. The MSc Program on Systems Engineering and Integration is offered in association with the University of Birmingham, UK and is highly promising. The international exposure to the students will be unparalleled.

These programmes are highly inter-disciplinary and application oriented and not being offered by any other Institute in India and thus, unique in its contents.

Speaking on the occasion, Shri V.K.Yadav, Chairman & CEO, Railway Board said, "NRTI has adopted an interdisciplinary approach for research of transport systems -it is bringing together academicians, scientists and engineers from various backgrounds, and plans to leverage its academic and industry partnerships and collaborations. It intends to develop a set of core values—dedication to nation building, commitment to innovation and academic excellence, compassion towards people and society and responsibility towards the environment. It offers  project-based learning at Railway establishments. Indian Railways will be at the core of implementing the key features of the programmes. It will serve as an experiential learning laboratory for the student community as well as the faculty development initiatives, thereby creating a distinct character for the University: through a highly experiential and application-based learning approach. The students passing out of these programs as tomorrow’s citizens could add great value in nation building."

Indian Railway Passenger Train Ticket Transfer to Another Name :-Rules

Change in the Name of Passenger Holding Confirmed Reservation  
1. Save as otherwise, a berth or a seat reserved in the name of a person shall be used only by the person and shall not be transferable to any other person.
2. Chief Reservation Supervisor of important stations are authorized by Railway Administration to permit the change of name of a passenger having a seat or berth reserved in his name in the following circumstances namely :
(a) Where the passenger is a Government Servant, proceeding on duty and appropriate authority, makes a request in writing 24 hours before the scheduled departure of trains
(b) Where the passenger makes a request in writing 24 hours before the scheduled departure of the train that the reservation made in his name may be transferred to another member of his family, meaning, Father, Mother, Brother, Sister, Son, Daughter, Husband and Wife.
(c) Where the passengers are students of a recognized educational institution and the Head of the institution makes a request in writing 48 hours before the scheduled departure of the train, that the reservation made in the name of any student be transferred to any other student of the same institute.
(d) Where the passengers are members of a marriage party and any person deemed to be Head of such party makes a request in writing 48 hours before the scheduled departure of the train that the reservation made in the name of any member of the marriage party be transferred to any other person.
(e) Where the passengers are a group of cadets of National Cadet Corps and any officer who is the head of the group, makes a request in writing at least 24 hours before the departure of the train that the reservation made in the name of any cadet be transferred to any other cadet.
Such request will be granted only once. Regarding item no. (c), (d) and (e), such request for change in excess of 10% of the total strength of group shall not be granted.

Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan (SSA), a programme for universalising elementary education for all children from 6-14 years of age aims to provide inclusive education to all children including
differently abled in general schools. SSA ensures that every child with special needs (CWSN), irrespective of the kind, category and degree of disability, is provided quality inclusive education. This includes special training, in the form of school readiness programmes for CWSN, education through special schools, home schooling and community
based rehabilitation.
Similarly, the Government is also implementing the component of Inclusive Education for Disabled at Secondary Stage under Centrally sponsored scheme Rashtriya Madhyamik Shiksha Abhiyan with an objective to enable all students with disabilities who have completed eight years elementary education, an opportunity to complete four years of secondary schooling (Class IX to XII).
The University Grant Commission (UGC) has implemented a scheme called Higher education for Persons with Special needs which is basically meant for creating an environment at the higher education institutions to enrich higher education learning experiences for differently-abled persons. Creating awareness about the capabilities of differently-abled persons, constructions aimed at improving accessibility, purchase of equipments to enrich learning etc. are the broad categories of assistance under the scheme.
The focus of SSA programme is on inclusive education, wherein all differently abled children are given admission in neighbourhood schools. Section 3 of the Right of Children to Free and Compulsory Education (RTE) Act mandates free and compulsory education to all children from 6-14 years of age in the neighbourhood schools, including differently abled children.
