GHANTIKHAL-NARAJ MARTHAPUR-CHUDANGAGARH DOUBLING WORK COMMISSIONED:
The doubling work for 12 KMs stretch between Ghantikhal Nidhipur-Naraj Marthapur-Chudangagarh section of 31 KMs long Rajathgarh-Baranga doubling project has been commissioned on 31stJuly 2016.
13 KMs stretch between Rajathgarh & Ghantikhal Nidhipur and from Machapur to Radhakishorepur have already been commissioned earlier. Out of 31 KMs doubling work, 25 KMs from Rajathgarh to Chudangagarh have been completed and ready for train movement. 06 numbers of Major Rail Bridges including Bridge at River Mahanadi have been completed in the commissioned doubling section. It is expected that, the doubling work of the project between Chudangagarh & Barang, a stretch of six kilometres will be completed in the current financial year. Rail Vikas Nigam Limited (RVNL) is giving priority to complete this project on war foot basis.

Titagarh Wagons forms JV with French firm ‘Matiere’ to make & sell Metallic Bridges
Kolkata: Titagarh Wagons Ltd has formed a joint venture with France’s Matiere SAS for manufacturing metallic and modular bridges in India. The duo plans to form a 50:50 joint venture in India.
“The Board of Directors of the Company at its meeting held on May 26, 2016 has approved execution of a joint venture agreement (JVA) with Matiere SAS, France pursuant where to a joint venture company between the joint venture partners would be incorporated in India to pursue manufacture of metallic and modular bridges in India,” said Titagarh Wagons in a BSE filing on May 27, 2016. The JV will also market its products in the neighbouring territories.
Speaking to media persons after the company’s board meeting, Titagarh Wagons vice chairman and MD Umesh Chowdhary said this business will be in addition to the manufacture of Bailey bridges that the company has been engaged in. “We are aggressively pursuing more orders for all segments of railroad rolling stock which will not only enable us to achieve the desired growth but also consolidate presence in the overseas markets,” he added.
Titagarh Wagons Limited already has an existing business of manufacture and sale of bailey bridges – portable prefabricated truss-bridges, initially designed for use by military engineering units to bridge gaps up to 200 feet in a single span. Being modular in design, bailey bridges can be supplied in completely knocked down (CKD) or semi-knocked down (SKD) conditions, thereby facilitating easy logistics, mobility and assembly with minimal aid from heavy equipment. Titagarh Wagons Limited is the only company in the private sector with necessary license for manufacturing bailey bridges in India.
The company, one of the largest private sector manufacturer of railway coaches (EMUs, MEMUs) with more than 39 per cent market share, is confident of wagon orders improving on the back of government’s investment focus on railways. Currently, they have received an order for around 2,118 wagons from Indianrailways valued Rs 302.46 crore. The total order book of the groat up currently stands at Rs 2,700 crore.
Titagarh Wagons has reported a consolidated net loss of Rs 20.2 crore in the fourth-quarter (Q4) ended March 31, which includes an exceptional loss of Rs 19.5 crore compared to a net profit of Rs 7.6 crore in the corresponding quarter previous year. The total income in the said quarter was up at Rs 316.5 crore Rs 237.8 crore while other income during the quarter under review surged to Rs 11.6 crore Rs 4.5 crore. EBITDA in Q4 stood at Rs Rs 17.6 crore Rs 22.7 crore and EBITDA margin at 7.2 per cent (7.4 per cent). Company officials claim the group achi Rs 959 crore with the French eved a turnover of subsidiary recording sales of euro 47.28 million and Italian subsidiary Titagarh Fireman Adler SPA (TFA) euro 33.45 million.

The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs, chaired by the Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi has given its approval for revised cost estimate amounting to Rs.2774 crore with Railway share as Rs.1247 crore and Ministry of Road Transport and Highways share as Rs.1527 crore for construction of Rail-cum-Road Bridge across River Ganga (14 kms) at Munger with a provision that the cost of land for road approaches may increase in future as the State Government of Bihar has not yet initiated acquisition proceedings for the same.
The railway line part of this project is likely to completed during the current financial year.
Munger, Khagaria, Saharsa, Bhagalpur districts of Bihar will be benefitted through this project.
Background:
Rail-cum-Road Bridge across river Ganga at Munger was included in supplementary Railway Budget for 1997-98 for providing adequate infrastructure for all season rail and road connectivity between North and South Bihar for rapid economic development of the State. This bridge would also produce an additional connectivity to North East region States.

Minister of State for Railways Manoj Sinha today said unmanned railway crossing were the main reason behind accidents and said more than 12,000 overbridges would be constructed to check the problem.
After laying foundation stone of railway bridge on Jaunpur-Mirzapur route, Sinha said that 40 per cent accidents took place while crossing unmanned crossing and 60 per cent lives were lost due to such incident.
He said that to check the problem the ministry would construct 12,330 overbridges across the country.
The minister said the cost would be shared by railway ministry and National Highway Authority of India in fifty-fifty ratio.
Emphasising on increasing investment in railway, Sinha said that number of passengers has increased 16 times since independence.
He said that railway safety and passenger facilities could be improved by increasing investment.
The minister said that instead of approving new projects, railway was completing old ones.

Inspection of bridges on Indian Railways ,not on the basis of age
Overlived Railway Bridges
There are a total of 1,38,912 bridges on Indian Railways out of which 35,437 bridges are more than 100 years old. However, the age of the bridge does not have any direct relevance on the physical condition of the bridge. There is a well established system of inspection of bridges on Indian Railways. All the bridges are inspected twice a year, one before the onset of monsoon and one detailed inspection after the monsoon. In addition, the detailed technical inspection of certain bridges is also carried out at specified periodicity by the designated officials. Repair/strengthening/rehabilitation/rebuilding of bridges is a continuous process and is undertaken whenever so warranted by their physical condition as ascertained during these inspections and not on the basis of age. If the corrective/remedial measures are expected to take a long duration due to the complexity of the site situation, etc., suitable safety measures like imposing speed restrictions and keeping such bridge under close watch are taken till the bridge is repaired/strengthened/rehabilitated/rebuilt. During the last five years, 4338 bridges have been repaired/strengthened/rehabilitated/rebuilt on Indian Railways.
This information was given by the Minister of State for Railways Shri Manoj Sinha in a written reply to a question in Rajya Sabha.
