RELAXATION IN REFUND RULES TO AVOID CROWDING
Govt. Advisory in wake of Covid -19 to avoid crowding and practice social distancing. Indian Railways relaxes Refund Rules for PRS counter generated tickets. 
All rules for e-ticket remain the same as passenger does not need to come to Station for refund of ticket.
This relaxation for PRS Counter Generated tickets is for journey period from 21st March - 15 April 2020. 
1) CASE 1- Train cancelled by Railways for journey period 21 March - 15 April 2020. 
• Refund across counter can be taken o­n submission of Ticket upto 45 days from date of journey. (Instead of extant rule of 3 hours/72 hours)
CASE 2: Train NOT cancelled. Passenger does NOT want to perform journey. 
• TDR ( Ticket Deposit Receipt) can be filed within 30 days from date of journey at the station. (Instead of extant rule of 3 days)
• TDR can be submitted to CCO/ CCM Claims office for getting the refund within 60 days of filing of TDR subject to verification from Train chart. (Instead of extant rule of 10 days)
• for passengers who want cancel ticket through 139 can get refund across the counter within 30 days from date of journey. (Instead of extant rule of upto scheduled departure of the train.)
PASSENGERS ARE ADVISED TO AVAIL THE FACILITY AND AVOID COMING TO RAILWAY STATION DURING THE SPREAD OF VIRUS.

WESTERN RAILWAY to equip TCs with Hand-held Devices for long distance trains in 3 months

Mumbai: Western Railway is to bring in hand-held devices for long distance trains within the next three months in the hope that ticket collectors (TCs) will no longer take bribes and allot berths to passengers far back on the waiting list instead of those supposed to be allotted the same berths as per the list when passengers cancel or don’t turn up.

With this, the WR will be one of the first railways to initiate hand-held devices to directly connect with the Passenger Reservation System (PRS) and do away with the old system of long paper lists carried by TCs who then tick if passengers have occupied their seats and allot empty seats to waitlisted passengers who board the train in the hope they will get seats in the event of cancellations.

“One of the main reasons behind bringing in hand-held devices is reducing corruption that occurs on passenger trains by TCs who give vacant or cancelled berths to the highest bidder. We will do away with this completely as officials under whose jurisdiction the trains come will also have information in front of them and will know if TCs are allotting berths to people out of turn,” said an official on condition of anonymity.

Another reason for bringing in hand-held devices is convenience as many a times, the list of passengers stuck to the train tends to get washed away during monsoons and passengers who might be catching the train from somewhere in the middle of the journey have to run to the station master or TC, leading to chaos as the train doesn’t stop for more than five to 10 minutes on most stations, “If a train has left from Bombay Central to Ahmedabad, many times by the time the train reaches Dahanu or even before, the list is washed away since we all know how intense the Indian monsoon can be,” the official added.

The hand-held devices are said to be revolutionary in the ticketing system of passenger trains on Indian Railways and are being billed as a big step in keeping mass transport up-to-speed with the latest technology.

Fortress Check at Secunderabad Railway Station Yields Rs 5.37 Lakh

Secunderabad Division of South Central Railway conducted a fortress check against ticketless and irregular travel at Secunderabad station o­n 8thAugust, 2014.The Check was conducted under the direct supervision of Shri P. Ravi Padi, Senior Divisional Commercial Manager and Assistant Commercial Manager, Ticket Checking, Secunderabad Division, SCR.

137 Ticket checking staff along with 19 Railway Protection Force (RPF) personnel carried out the drive and checked the tickets of each passenger.During the fortress check, all the exit points at Secunderabad Railway station were plugged to prevent ticketless travellers escaping from the fortress check. 42 Express Trains, 06 Passenger Trains and 45 MMTS Trains were checked.

A total of 1349 persons, comprising of 657 persons travelling without ticket, 428persons travelling irregularly and 264 cases of un-booked luggage were apprehended. An amount of Rs. 5, 37, 450/- was realised towards penalty from these persons.
