Why 5G in Railways ? How it's Serve to the Users in Network Breakdown?

Why 5G in Railways ? How it's Serve to the Users in Network Breakdown?
5G is the culmination of the process that will take us on a new trajectory of technological innovation, with the help of new framework that merges Cloud, Big Data, IoT, automation and AI to gain insights generated from billions of connected devices. Due to the extensive technological sophistication of 5G, selecting a site for 5G cells requires certain is more complex than selecting a site for 3G or 4G.
5G need minimum 50 times more antenna locations than 3G or 4G. Also, 5G signals are more powerful but they are unable to travel far and wide like its previous incarnations.
The main advantage of 5G is that of one cell site is not working; the other site would cater to customer demands. Instead of concentrating a large number of cells at a single location, 5G cells are spread at different locations so that in case of a network breakdown issues, users can continue to get efficient services. 5G’s higher frequencies which is needed to carry huge amounts of data have a very short range which can be impacted by smallest of the obstructions. The signal is so sensitive that it can be blocked by the palm of your hand, or even a raindrop.
5G will also require denser telecom network more towers placed selectively and strategically. Therefore, accurate, authoritative geospatial data is fundamental here to plan network towers.
Since the 5G network cells would be evenly distributed in a large area, it is important to select a location. As such, 5G and geospatial will together power future cities.

Aadhaar eKYC verification for existing mobile subscribers to start soon

Aadhaar eKYC verification for existing mobile subscribers to start soon

NEW DELHI: All existing subscribers of mobile services will have to go for Aadhaar-based re-verification soon, with the government instructing telecom operators to initiate the process.
Cellular operators' body COAI said its members may meet this week to discuss the modalities of rolling out the verification process for the existing one billion-plus mobile phone users.

"...all licencees shall re-verify all existing mobile subscribers (pre-paid and postpaid) through Aadhaar-based eKYC process...," a notification issued by the telecom department said.

It further added that all licencees will have to inform existing subscribers -- through advertisements in print and electronic media as well as SMS -- about the order of the Supreme Court for re-verification activity. They have also been asked to upload the details of the exercise on their website.

The Supreme Court, in an order in February this year, had observed that, "an effective process has been evolved to ensure the identity verification, as well as, the addresses of all mobile phone subscribers for the new subscribers. In the near future, and more particularly within one year from today, a similar verification will be completed, in case of existing subscribers".

The telecom department has said the operators will use and share common device eco-system through mutual agreements, and will work out mechanisms to avoid public inconvenience and long queues.

When contacted, cellular operators association COAI said that the industry supported the move, but pointed out that the entire exercise will cost Rs 1,000 crore for infrastructure and training, which will have to be borne by the operators.

"The issue of fake subscribers will go away. We will try our best to cover the entire base within the stipulated time frame of one year but in case we cannot, we may ask DoT for an extension," COAI Director General Rajan Mathews said.

For re-verification through Aadhaar-based eKYC process, the operator will send a verification code to the mobile number of the subscriber. Prior to starting the eKYC, the operator will verify this code from the subscriber so as to confirm the SIM card of the mobile connection is physically available with the subscriber.

"After the completion of the eKYC process, before updating or overwriting the old subscriber detail in database with the data received through eKYC process, the licencee will seek confirmation from the subscriber about the re-verification of his/her mobile number after 24 hours through SMS," the notification said.

The operator can re-verify more than one mobile connection in one service area through a single eKYC but not bulk connections. For issuing additional mobile connections to re-verified subscriber, the operator would have to follow a separate eKYC process.

Verification of a subscriber would not be required in case of conversions - that is pre-paid to postpaid connections or vice versa, it clarified.

EPFO plans housing scheme for members, says Labour Minister

"We have to see that by retirement every EPFO subscriber has his own house... We are considering this," he said while unveiling 'Nidhi Aapke Nikat' or 'PF Near You', a public outreach initiative for its 6 crore members.

While he did not provide details of the scheme, sources informed the Ministry intends to collaborate with PSU banks, housing finance companies, state-owned construction firms like NBCC and authorities like DDA, PUDA, HUDA to build houses at prices to be fixed by the government. EPFO's Central Provident Fund Commissioner K K Jalan later told reporters that a committee comprising of EPFO trustees and senior Labour Ministry officials is working the proposal.

The panel is expected to submit its report soon. He also said EPFO has proposed to increase the maximum sum assured under the Employees' Deposit Linked Insurance Scheme 1976 to Rs 4.5 lakh, from Rs 3.6 lakh. At present, there are over 70 percent EPFO subscribers whose basic wages are less than Rs 15,000 per month who could benefit from the scheme.

MEET TOOST NEW CALLER ID MOBILE APP

What if we tell you about an app that not only identifies the caller, but also helps you search the numbers of local businesses, right from plumbers to doctors, restaurants and pest control, and also rate their services and get recommendation from friends — all in the same app.

Meet Toost, a new caller ID and number locator app that not only gives details about a caller, but also allows you to rate, receive and offer suggestions to friends and Toost users, about businesses and people. You can rate them and write a review explaining your experience with a business, and whether or not they offer reliable services.

What's more, it offers details about the people in your call log, which you can use to save contacts. Toost also allows you to access its database to connect with your friends or acquaintances (if you lose their contacts), after placing a 'connect' request to the person you wish to connect with.

We are not too sure about the efficiency of the latter service, but keeping in mind its database of businesses and services, Toost is definitely worth a try. The ratings (though very limited) can also come very handy in decision making before hiring a business/service. Happy Toosting!

Service tax hiked to 14%, mobile, hotel, railways, other services to be costlier from today

Service tax hiked to 14%, mobile, hotel, railways, other services to be costlier from today

New Delhi: People will have to shell out more from Monday while using mobiles, eating out and travelling as the service tax rate goes up to 14 per cent.

Finance Minister Arun Jaitley in his Budget had proposed to raise service tax from 12.36 per cent (including education cess) to 14 per cent. The proposal takes effect from June 1.

The tax is levied on all services, expect a small negative list.

Some of the key services that will attract higher tax and hence become costlier are: railways, airlines, banking, insurance, advertising, architecture, construction, credit cards, event management and tour operators.

Mobile operators and credit card companies have already started sending messages to subscribers conveying the increase in service tax rate which will have a bearing on the bills.

According to railway ministry officials, fares for First Class and AC classes in passenger trains, besides freight charges, will go up by 0.5 per cent from June 1.

"Currently, 3.7 per cent service tax is levied on train fares for AC Class, First Class and freight. This will go up to 4.2 per cent from June which means the rise is only 0.5 per cent," the official said. Currently, there is abatement of 70 per cent on passenger services.

Jaitley had proposed to raise the service tax rate to 14 per cent to facilitate a smooth transition to the Goods and Services Tax (GST) regime, which the government wants to roll out from April 2016.

Once implemented, GST will subsume service tax, excise and other local levies.

"To facilitate a smooth transition to levy of tax on services by both the Centre and the States, it is proposed to increase the present rate of service tax plus education cesses from 12.36 per cent to a consolidated rate of 14 per cent," Jaitley had said in Budget speech.

Education cess, which is levied on service tax, will be subsumed in the service tax rate with effect from June 1.

Although the Budget also proposed a 2 per cent Swachh Bharat cess on selected services, the government is yet to come out with a notification in this regard.
