Secunderabad Division DRUCC Meeting Held
The 163rd Divisional Railway Users Consultative Committee (DRUCC) Meeting of Secunderabad Division, South Central Railway, was held o­n 30thJanuary, 2019 at Divisional Railway Manager’s Conference Hall, Sanchalan Bhavan, Secunderabad. The meeting was chaired by Shri Amit Varadan, Divisional Railway Manager, Secunderabad Division. Dr. Sumit Sharma, Senior Divisional Commercial Manager and other officers of the Secunderabad Division along with 15 DRUCC members attended the meeting.
Shri. Amit Varadan highlighted the performance and major developments of Secunderabad Division to the Members. Later the agenda sent by the Members were discussed at length duly impressing upon the members about the value they add while deciding o­n provision of Passenger Amenities and Stoppages of the Trains.
The members expressed their satisfaction over the improvements made at stations especially with respect to passenger amenities and cleanliness, introduction of special trains, augmentation of coaches etc. DRUCC members also provided their suggestions for improvement of facilities.

Want to know running status of Mumbai local trains? Just give a missed call 

Commuters would not need to have an internet connection and the service is totally free of cost
In a bid to reduce commuter woes by keeping its suburban passengers informed about delays and disruptions, the Western Railway has launched a unique service through which commuters would be able to know the running status of local trains by simply giving a missed call.
The commuter needs to dial the toll free number 1800 212 4502 and the call will get disconnected automatically after two rings. An SMS will then be sent informing the running status of the suburban trains.
This service was launched on Monday and the initial feedback from the commuters was very exciting, said Ravindra Bhakar, chief PRO of WR adding that Western Railway has hired a private agency to facilitate this service.
Outlining the importance of the service, Bhakar said, “This service will be a convenience to the commuters as they will be aware of the running status of local trains and will be useful, in particular, during unusual occurrences or disruptions.”
“The information regarding running of services shall be communicated to the firm by the Railways at a stipulated schedule time, which in turn will be conveyed to the passengers accordingly,” Bhakar said adding that the best part of this service is that the system can be used by any kind of mobile phones be it smartphone or high end mobile or basic mobile phone. Commuters would not need to have an internet connection and the service is totally free of cost. They can also alternately register themselves with www.mobitip.info for daily periodic updates at scheduled times. Passengers’ representatives and commuters have, however, hailed this initiative with a cautionary note. Kailash Verma, member of WR’s Zonal Railway Users Consultative Committee (ZRUCC), said, “This is good that railway is launching such tech-savvy initiatives, but the most important thing is that it should stick with such initiatives because in recent past many other message based services were launched, but were scrapped over a period of time.” Another member of WR’s Divisional Railway Users Consultative Committee (DRUCC), Rajiv Singal also maintained the same and said, “Use of technology to empower the commuters is always welcoming, but it must keep its servicing intact so that its importance does not fade away.”

About 500 to 550 trains on the Central Railway (CR) were delayed by 15 to 20 minutes for the fifth day in a row

Mumbai: About 500 to 550 trains on the Central Railway (CR) were delayed by 15 to 20 minutes for the fifth day in a row, due to the speed restrictions laid by the conversion from direct current (DC) to alternating current (AC) from CST to Kalyan. The restrictions were supposed to be lifted by Tuesday or Wednesday.

Contrary to CR officials’ information that the restrictions have been put at only three locations, i.e, Byculla viaduct, Hancock rail overbridge at Sandhurst and Mumbra tunnel, an additional block of 30 kmph has been operated at another location at Byculla, two locations at Parel and one at Ghatkopar. A CR official, on the condition of anonymity, revealed that this has been going on since the conversion on Sunday night.

The official said, “On Sunday evening we had been promised that these restrictions would go on for a maximum of two to three days, but it seems after the conversion no one, including the Railway Board, is concerned about what is happening to the trains’ schedule. Around 500 to 550 trains are late every day with the maximum effect felt during morning and evening peak hours.”

According to sources, top CR officials are throwing a ‘conversion bash’ at the plush railway officers’ colony at Nirmal Park, Colaba.

Divisional Railway Users Consultative Committee (DRUCC) member Subhash Gupta said, “I am not taking away from the fact that the CR has achieved a big feat, but the celebrations should stop after they realised that punctuality has been hit so badly. Commuters are suffering for five days and there seems to be nothing being done about it.”

Railway Board disbands all ZRUCCs and DRUCCs

New Delhi:  The railway ministry has once again disbanded all railway users’ consultative committees constituted at the suburban, divisional, zonal and national level. A circular issued by the railway board to all the general managers of 17 zones, including Metro rail, Kolkata and deputy general manager, Konkan Rail, ordered the dissolution of existing committees and their replacement with new committees.

The circular has cut short the tenure of all railway users’ consultative committees formed in April 2013 whose tenure was supposed to end in March 2015. Central Railway, Western Railway and Konkan Railway have informed members of these committees about the decision.

The committees comprise experts of different fields who provide objections and suggestions to railway officials and the Railway Board to bring in passenger-friendly policies. In the past too, when then rail minister Pawan Kumar Bansal had taken over, he had disbanded all the consultative committees set up by his predecessor Mukul Roy, cutting short the period of the railway users’ committees. In its circular, the Railway Board also directed all zonal heads to formulate new committees from August 1 so that the voices of railway passengers do not go unheard. Hence, officials have started working to set up new committees at suburban, divisional, zonal and railway board levels.
