Microsoft integrates digital payments into Kaizala app

Microsoft integrates digital payments into Kaizala app
With the aim to help the first-line workforce become more productive, Microsoft on Tuesday enabled digital payments services on its enterprise social network app “Kaizala” in the country.
To begin with, Microsoft has integrated payment services of Yes Bank and MobiKwik. Payment integration with Microsoft Kaizala will enable users to quickly send or receive money without having to leave the “Kaizala” application.
“We see an opportunity for technology to give first-line workers more intuitive, immersive, and empowering experiences and, thereby, help organisations achieve greater efficiency, enhance their customers’ experience,” said Rajesh Jha, Executive Vice President, Office Product Group, Microsoft.
“Office 365, including Microsoft ‘Kaizala’, Microsoft ‘Teams’ and Outlook, aims to connect this mobile-first and mobile-only workforce for modern collaboration and teamwork,” Jha added.
With Microsoft Kaizala, users have the option to make peer to peer payments in one to one and group chat conversations via the MobiKwik wallet and via Yes Bank’s Unified Payment Interface (UPI) integration.
The UPI payment integration on Microsoft Kaizala works with all 86 banks that are already participating in UPI. There are nearly 1.9 billion first-line workers globally, and a large portion of this workforce is based out of India.
“When we launched Microsoft Kaizala for India in July 2017, we provided consumers as well as businesses with a secure chat platform to collaborate and be productive on the go,” said Rajiv Kumar, Corporate Vice President, Office Product Group, Microsoft.
“Payment transactions within the app was a key demand from our users for getting work done and we are happy to offer it today in collaboration with Yes Bank and MobiKwik,” Kumar added.

New App for Bangalore Metro once Phase-1 gets fully operational

New App for Bangalore Metro once Phase-1 gets fully operational

Bangalore: The Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Ltd (BMRCL) is set to launch a new mobile app to help commuters by the time the first phase of Namma Metro becomes fully operational. That may happen by March 2016.

The BMRCL had launched a mobile app almost two years ago, but that didn’t achieve much success. That app was available on Android but had limited features and lacked a user interface.

The new app, however, will have an interactive user interface for commuters besides information about BMTC buses connecting the Metro stations, fare details, etc. Users would also get train timings.

MoU signed

The BMRCL recently signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Centre for Development of Advanced Computing (C-DAC) for developing the new app. While no deadline has been set for the app to be developed, BMRCL officials hope that by the time the first phase of Namma Metro gets completed (by March 2016), the app would be ready too.

As of now, the BMRCL is focusing on completing the Phase 1 which, once fully operational, would be used by more than one-and-a-half lakh commuters.

The mobile app will come in handy then. At present, around 25,000 people travel by Metro every day, on Reach 1 (from MG Road to Baiyappannhalli) and Reach 3(A, B) (from Sampige to Nagasandra). The number touches 35,000 during weekends.

The BMRCL is now getting ready to launch commercial operations on Reach 2 from Mysuru Road to Magadi Road and Reach 4 from National College to Puttenahalli. All construction works have been completed on these two stretches.

Railways to develop App to improve commuter Security

Railways to develop App to improve commuter Security

Chennai (MAS): After introducing an app to buy suburban tickets, Southern Railway is planning to develop an app to enhance passenger security. It will be on the lines of the one developed by Central Railway and Western Railway for suburban commuters in Mumbai.

The public transport app called m-Indicator, aimed primarily at women, was launched in January. The move to develop an app comes after an instruction from Railway Board that all railway zones should develop apps for passengers to access services of Railway Protection Force (RPF). Now, passengers use helplines.

A senior railway official said, “We are trying to rope in a few private app developers . The idea is to improve upon the one available for commuters in Mumbai. Our requirements are different, so we need more features.”

The commuter security feature of the app does not require internet to function. It sends out SMSes to RPF when a commuter presses a panic button and a call is connected automatically. RPF will be able to track the commuter and send a team for assistance.

“There is no deadline set for completing it but we are trying to get it done in a few months. The app will take time to be developed as it needs customisation to suit the needs of Chennai commuters. These changes and improvements are being decided upon,” he added. More than 10lakh commuters use suburban trains in Chennai.

m-Indicator also offers other services including suburban timetable, bus and mono rail schedules and fares.

The app has generated a lot of interest among the commuters in Mumbai. Western Railway received more than 46,000 messages from commuters in a month after it was launched.

IRCTC Windows App disappoint users

IRCTC Windows App disappoint users

New Delhi: In September last year, the ministry of railways quietly announced an application for users of its e-ticket portal Indian Railway Catering & Tourism Corporation Ltd (IRCTC), but made it available only for Windows phone and Windows 8 device users, who account for less than 10 per cent in the Indian market.

The app, which is available free-of-cost on then Windows store, has been rated four stars by 2,199 users since September 2013, when it was launched. However, most users of the Windows operating system who have tried to use the app have been disappointed so far.

“The app requires you to generate a TPIN before logging in. It took me multiple tries and over 30 minutes before I gave up the attempt,” said city-based school teacher Prerna Maggu.

“I managed to generate the TPIN, but when I tried to book a ticket, the site was down for maintenance,” said Bangalore-based IT professional Mayur Naidu.

Reviews like these abound on the Windows Store. Problems range from not being able to book or cancel tickets, to slow connection issues and the app not syncing with the online application.

The app can be used to “plan a trip, make railway reservations, check the PNR status and perform all the tasks already available on the IRCTC website,” the press note from the railways ministry had said last year.

Last week, the ministry had announced a Train Enquiry Mobile App on the Window platform, which will be followed by an Android version soon.
