New App for Bangalore Metro once Phase-1 gets fully operational

New App for Bangalore Metro once Phase-1 gets fully operational

Bangalore: The Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Ltd (BMRCL) is set to launch a new mobile app to help commuters by the time the first phase of Namma Metro becomes fully operational. That may happen by March 2016.

The BMRCL had launched a mobile app almost two years ago, but that didn’t achieve much success. That app was available on Android but had limited features and lacked a user interface.

The new app, however, will have an interactive user interface for commuters besides information about BMTC buses connecting the Metro stations, fare details, etc. Users would also get train timings.

MoU signed

The BMRCL recently signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Centre for Development of Advanced Computing (C-DAC) for developing the new app. While no deadline has been set for the app to be developed, BMRCL officials hope that by the time the first phase of Namma Metro gets completed (by March 2016), the app would be ready too.

As of now, the BMRCL is focusing on completing the Phase 1 which, once fully operational, would be used by more than one-and-a-half lakh commuters.

The mobile app will come in handy then. At present, around 25,000 people travel by Metro every day, on Reach 1 (from MG Road to Baiyappannhalli) and Reach 3(A, B) (from Sampige to Nagasandra). The number touches 35,000 during weekends.

The BMRCL is now getting ready to launch commercial operations on Reach 2 from Mysuru Road to Magadi Road and Reach 4 from National College to Puttenahalli. All construction works have been completed on these two stretches.
