CRS INQUIRY INTO THE LOCAL TRAIN DERAILMENT BETWEEN ANDHERI & VILE PARLE TO BE HELD o­n 18th & 21st September, 2015

 Commissioner of Railway Safety (CRS) has decided to hold a statutory inquiry into the incident of Virar - Churchgate local train derailment between Andheri & Vile Parle occurred on 15th September, 2015.  The inquiry will be held o­n 18th September, 2015 & 21st September, 2015 from 11.00 hrs to 18.00 hrs in the office of Divisional Railway Manager (DRM), Mumbai Central. Members of the Public and Railway Staff having any information or knowledge or details about the accident and matters connected are requested to volunteer to depose before the Commissioner or may send the details to the office of Commissioner of Railway Safety, Western Circle, Second Floor, Churchgate Station Building Annexe, Maharshi Karve Road, Mumbai 400 020 or Fax on 022 - 22034351 or contact in person o­n Telephone No 022-22034351.

Meanwhile, the affected section between Andheri – Vile Parle was restored at around 8.30 am o­n 16th September, 2015. After the derailment of 7 coaches of Virar-Churchgate fast local o­n 15th September, 2015 at 11.03 hrs, two Accident Relief Trains loaded with equipments were moved to the site and 6 out of 7 coaches got rerailed. o­ne coach which was severely damaged and could not be rerailed was shifted aside using a heavy duty crane.

The down fast line was opened o­n the evening of 15th September, 2015 and Mail/Express trains and Fast suburban trains were worked o­n this line to ease passenger crowd. During night it was again closed for crane operations to shift 7th derailed coach. However, the signal system at derailment site o­n fast corridor is still affected, causing a delay of around 10 minutes, which will be rectified tonight.

Some long distance trains were rescheduled, while some trains were short terminated and reversed from Borivali for their return journey o­n 16th September, 2015. The details of these trains were intimated to public through WR's website, Twitter & Facebook, as well as through Press Release and Electronic media.  Around 100 suburban services were cancelled on 16th Sept 2015

CRS Enquiry should have been held at Penukonda Railway Station or at the Punukonda MRO office on Guntakal Division where the mishap occurred, not of Bangalore – opines public.

Bangalore: Not a single public witness showed up to depose before the Commissioner for Railway Safety on Thursday as the official inquiry into the Bangalore-Nanded Express accident, a granite-laden truck had rammed the train after breaking a level-crossing barrier, began.

The accident, which occurred on Monday past the Penukonda Junction in Anantapur district, claimed the lives of five people, including an MLA Venkatesh Naik from Karnataka and a railway employee.

As part of the inquiry, a public notice was issued by the CRS who asked for people with information to come and depose before him on Thursday.

“No one came. We wrapped up the hearing a little while back,” said S.K. Mittal, CRS, on Thursday evening.

However, government officials and railway employees completed their depositions on Thursday. “We finished interviewing government and railway officials. I will submit a preliminary report on the incident,” Mr. Mittal said. Statements of the government officials concerned and the railway employees related to the incident, including staff posted at the level crossing, station master and locomotive pilots, were recorded on Thursday. S K Mittal, the CRS, said that the next step would be to submit a preliminary inquiry report.

He appealed to the public who have information about the incident to depose. “If they cannot come here, they can always write to me. The preliminary report can always be modified if more information comes to light,” he said.

Safety experts and public questioned the way CRS enquiry conducted at Bangalore. ‘It should have been held at Penukonda Railway Station or at the Punukonda MRO office, instead of Bangalore, opines Public. Interestingly many tweets came up on the internet asking why Railways have not summoned the Quarry owner, the labourers or the local village people and the local administration during the enquiry.  This shows lack of professionalism in conducting enquiries, expressed netizens.

Striking coincidence of an accident again occurred when CRS conducting enquiry at City Railway Station premises yesterday, i.e. days after Nanded express derailed near Penukonda after a granite truck rammed into, killing five including truck assistant, locomotive engine and a general compartment of Prashanti express, arriving to city from Guwahati derailed in platform 3 of City railway station on Friday noon.  No casualties are reported. The accident took place when train, 20 minutes late to schedule time, arrived to platform 3 around 12.30pm.

MEGA Metro Rail scam accused former IAS sent to Judicial Custody

Ahmedabad (ADI): Criminal Investigation Department (CID)-Crime, Gujarat Police today didn’t demand further remand of Ahmedabad Metro rail scam accused former IAS officer Sanjay Gupta and Radhesh Bhatt. Gupta who was earlier sent on four days remand told the court that he was pressurized during remand. Gupta also sought protection from court against news coverage of ongoing investigation while the case is sub judice. Gupta’s lawyer told court that accused wants to give statement under CRPC 281 before court. Further hearing in this case is scheduled on 21st May. Court has sent both accused to Judicial custody.
