EASTERN RAILWAY GREEN INITIATIVE

As a part of the ongoing round the year cleanliness drive aiming at a cleaner and greener environment, Eastern Railway has adopted a series of measures including on-board housekeeping services (OBHS), solar lights at level crossing gates, bio-toilets in different trains and mechanized laundries.
At present, 74 trains (Howrah – 26, Sealdah – 36, Asansol – 3 and Malda – 9) are covered under OBHS for cleanliness of trains. During 2016-17, 11 more trains are likely to be covered under OBHS.
At present, 251 level crossing gates (Asansol-65, Howrah-52, Malda-74 and Sealdah-60) have been electrified with 74WP solar module (SPV). More level crossing gates will also be electrified with solar lighting system in near future.
Presently, 562 coaches (in 14 rakes of 9 trains) have been covered with bio-toilets. Total 2015 bio-toilets were retrofitted.
Apart from these, 3 mechanized laundries one each Sealdah, Howrah and Malda are operating under the jurisdiction of this Railway and the combined capacity of these laundries are 10 tonnes per day.
Eastern Railway is committed to provide passengers/rail users a cleaner and hygienic environment in trains, platforms, Railway premises and different offices and all out effort will be on towards this direction.
