SCR Personnel have come forward to help Licensed Porters (Railway coolies) in the Prevailing Lockdown
Licensed Porters (Railway Coolies) are authorized by Railways to assist rail users in carrying their personal luggage at railway premises by collecting stipulated porterage charges as prescribed by Railway authorities, which is their livelihood. As a precautionary measure to combat COVID-19, nationwide lockdown has been implemented and All Passenger carrying trains have been cancelled till 14thApril, 2020 resulting in unprecedented shutdown of Railway stations. This has resulted in the loss of income source by the licensed porters.
Staff of Commercial Department over SCR zone has come forward generously to lend a helping hand to the Licensed Coolie Porters who have lost their source of revenue in the prevailing lockdown condition. Accordingly, staff of commercial department has contributed money o­n charity basis and purchased essential items for distribution to the Licensed Porters as detailed below-
  • ·Hyderabad Divisionhas distributed Rice, Dal, Oil Packets, Atta, Salt, Soaps, Sanitary kits and other grocery items to 101 coolie porters across the division which include Kacheguda, Kurnool City, Gadwal, Kamareddi and Nizamabad. In addition, Rs 2600 cash per person has been given to porters at Kurnool city station.
  • ·Guntakal Divisionhas distributed basic grocery items kit containing Dal, Atta, Soaps and other grocery items and Rs 500 cash per person to 40 licensed coolie porters across the division. At Guntakal, the Kits were handed over to coolie porters by Shri Alok Tiwari, DRM/Guntakal in presence of the commercial officers.
  • ·Guntur Divisionhas distributed Rice, Atta, Oil, Sugar etc along with Rs 1500 cash per person to 33 licensed porters across the division by the hands of Shri R. Mohan Raja, DRM/Guntur.
  • ·Nanded Divisionhas distributed 5 kg wheat, Dal, Oil, Salt, Tea, Chilli Powder etc to 13 coolie porters across the division which include Nanded, Parbhani, Washim and Hingoli.
Shri Gajanan Mallya, General Manager, South Central Railway has complimented the Officers and staff of commercial department for taking a good and timely initiative of helping the Licensed porters who are in desperate situation. They stand as a torch bearers and remain as ideal to the rest of people in the Organization as well as society, he opined. He also advised that other employees who are interested to show their gesture to help the needy persons may come forward with such ideas in these critical times.

SECUNDERABAD: The charges for engaging licensed porters at Railway stations to cart the passengers luggage have been revised over South Central Railway. The revised rates will be implemented as detailed below:

Mumbai: Western Railway to revise porterage, waiting room charges

The Western Railway has decided to revise porterage charges with effect from July 1, a senior official said in Mumbai on Wednesday.
"The rates of porterage charges to licensed porters at railway stations will be revised with effect from July 1, 2016 on Western Railway," the official said. "The porterage charged for passengers with luggage weighing up to 40 kg per head load per trip will be Rs 50 for all 'A1' and 'A' class stations; Rs 45 for All 'B' and 'C' class stations and Rs 40 for all other remaining stations."
Mumbai Central, Bandra Terminus and Surat stations on Mumbai division come under the category of A1 stations. Railway stations under A1 category are those with an annual income of Rs 50 crore or above, while A category stations are those which earn annual revenue between Rs 6 crore and Rs 50 crore.
The official also informed that the revised rates for wheeled barrow for luggage weighing up to 160 kgs carried on two-wheeled or four-wheeled barrows will be Rs 80 per trip, while rates for carrying sick or disabled persons on a wheel chair or a stretcher by two persons will be Rs 80 and when carried by four persons it will be Rs 130.
To carry luggage from Western Railway to Central Railway and vice versa at Dadar station the charges will be Rs 50," he said, adding the passenger will be charged this amount if he is availing the service lasting not more than 30 minutes.
Western Railway has also revised the waiting charges applicable to passengers availing the facility of its rest rooms. "Waiting charges after 30 minutes for every half an hour or part thereof has been revised to Rs 50 for all 'A1' and 'A' class stations; Rs 45 for all 'B' and 'C' class stations and Rs 40 for all other remaining stations.
"Licensed porters are available at all important stations for carrying luggage of passengers. These porters are not railways employees but are licensed by railways and must be paid authorised charges displayed at prominent places at railway stations," he said.
The official added that for identification the porters have been provided with a red shirt and an arm badge with a license number engraved on it.
