SCR Personnel have come forward to help Licensed Porters (Railway coolies) in the Prevailing Lockdown
Licensed Porters (Railway Coolies) are authorized by Railways to assist rail users in carrying their personal luggage at railway premises by collecting stipulated porterage charges as prescribed by Railway authorities, which is their livelihood. As a precautionary measure to combat COVID-19, nationwide lockdown has been implemented and All Passenger carrying trains have been cancelled till 14thApril, 2020 resulting in unprecedented shutdown of Railway stations. This has resulted in the loss of income source by the licensed porters.
Staff of Commercial Department over SCR zone has come forward generously to lend a helping hand to the Licensed Coolie Porters who have lost their source of revenue in the prevailing lockdown condition. Accordingly, staff of commercial department has contributed money oÂn charity basis and purchased essential items for distribution to the Licensed Porters as detailed below-
- ·Hyderabad Divisionhas distributed Rice, Dal, Oil Packets, Atta, Salt, Soaps, Sanitary kits and other grocery items to 101 coolie porters across the division which include Kacheguda, Kurnool City, Gadwal, Kamareddi and Nizamabad. In addition, Rs 2600 cash per person has been given to porters at Kurnool city station.
- ·Guntakal Divisionhas distributed basic grocery items kit containing Dal, Atta, Soaps and other grocery items and Rs 500 cash per person to 40 licensed coolie porters across the division. At Guntakal, the Kits were handed over to coolie porters by Shri Alok Tiwari, DRM/Guntakal in presence of the commercial officers.
- ·Guntur Divisionhas distributed Rice, Atta, Oil, Sugar etc along with Rs 1500 cash per person to 33 licensed porters across the division by the hands of Shri R. Mohan Raja, DRM/Guntur.
- ·Nanded Divisionhas distributed 5 kg wheat, Dal, Oil, Salt, Tea, Chilli Powder etc to 13 coolie porters across the division which include Nanded, Parbhani, Washim and Hingoli.
Shri Gajanan Mallya, General Manager, South Central Railway has complimented the Officers and staff of commercial department for taking a good and timely initiative of helping the Licensed porters who are in desperate situation. They stand as a torch bearers and remain as ideal to the rest of people in the Organization as well as society, he opined. He also advised that other employees who are interested to show their gesture to help the needy persons may come forward with such ideas in these critical times.
