Unhappy Over Pay Hike, Central Employees To Agitate For 3 Days

The Constituent Unions of National Council Joint Consultative Machinery of Central Government employees has called for a three-day agitation, from January 19 -21, to draw the attention of central government to modifications it is seeking in the recommendations of the 7th Central Pay Commission.

The unions called an agitation after the Cabinet gave its approval for constitution of an Empowered Committee to study the 7th Pay Commission report for implementation Process.

We don’t think that the pay matrix recommended by 7th CPC is final, we won’t accept the fitment factor recommended by the Commission, the union leaders voiced unanimously.

They said that the take-home pay is very much less when compared to previous pay commissions. If the Central Government accepts to increase the Minimum Pay, then that would be the criteria for arriving subsequent pay scales. Hence expecting changes in Pay Matrix is inevitable.

Subject: Postponement of proposed Strike on 02.09.2015

Dear Brothers & Sisters

Sadar Namaskar,
Your attention is invited to this federation’s Circular No BPMS / 11/ CIR / 2015, dated 17.07.2015 whereby all the unions have been directed to take strike ballot and serve the strike notice to the head of establishments to go on strike on 02.09.2015 on the call of Central Trade Unions along with Bharatiya Mazdoor Sangh.

Now, it is worth to mention here that an Inter Ministerial Committee meeting held on 26th & 27th August, 2015 under the Chairmanship of Shri Arun Jaitley, Hon’ble Finance Minister and assured for justifys of workers, welfare of labour, concepts of tripartism in the matter of labour relations and appealed to reconsider the proposed call for strike on 02.09.2015.

Since the Government has come forward with positive assurances on the basic demands and assured to continue dialogue, it has been decided to defer/postpone the proposed strike on 02.09.2015 for next date to be decided in future.

Therefore, you are requested to apprise to your Head of Establishment regarding postponement of the proposed strike of 02.09.2015. Kindly see the format in this regard.

One Rank One Pension – Ex-servicemen launch nationwide stir

Ex-servicemen have launched a series of protests all over the country demanding the implementation of the One Rank One Pension scheme. A massive relay hunger strike began in New Delhi.

In select cities around the country, ex-servicemen gathered in huge numbers to express their dissatisfaction against the government.

Ex-servicemen are being given pension depending on the year of their retirement, their ranks, and the number of years that they had served. Soldiers who had retired before 1996 continue to get very low pensions compared to those who had retired after 1996, leading to a great dissatisfaction among those who belong to the former category. A senior officer who had retired before 1996 draws lesser pension than his junior officers who had retired after 1996. Despite the fact that budgetary allocations were made to resolve this issue, nothing was done.

In addition to Delhi, similar protests are also on in Bihar, Jalandar, and Bengaluru.

National Federation of Railway Union announces Indefinite Strike on 23 Nov 2015

New Delhi: National Federation of Indian Railwaymen (NFIR), a trade union body representing 77 per cent of Indian railways’ 1.31-million workers, has called a nationwide strike from November 23 against the government’s plan to bring in private participation in railway projects and the foreign direct investment (FDI) policy.

“The strike will bring to halt 19,000 trains across the nation beginning 6:00 am on November 23 impacting 20 million passengers. The call for the strike was announced at a massive protest today (Tuesday) outside Sansad Bhawan by NFIR,” said the federation’s press secretary S N Malik.

NFIR general secretary M Raghavaiah said around 100,000 central government employees – largely belonging to Railways apart from other sectors including defence – participated in the protest. “About 3.4 million central employees representing these sectors are part of this protest against FDI and public private partnership policy,” he said.

NFIR has also demanded immediate withdrawal of a recent report by NITI Aayog member Bibek Debroy on resource mobilisation for Indian Railways, which has recommended roping in private sector participation.
