Pune-Lonavala connectivity: PMRDA sanctions Rs 380 crore for new train tracks
The estimated cost of project is Rs 2,306 crore and the Mumbai Railway Development Corporation Ltd would be developing the 70 km-rail route.
TO PUSH the much-awaited project, the Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority (PMRDA) on Monday has approved to allot Rs 380.49 crore to develop two additional tracks for local trains from Pune to Lonavala in a bid to increase facilities for those commuting in the sector.
The estimated cost of project is Rs 2,306 crore and the Mumbai Railway Development Corporation Ltd would be developing the 70 km-rail route. The 50 per cent expenditure would be taken care of by the state and the rest would be done by PMRDA, Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) and Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC). Accordingly, the three together would be equally contributing towards it .
The meeting chaired by PMRDA chief and guardian minister Girish Bapat also decided to urge the state government to allow the authority to implement the outer ring road project.
