Train Service Parcel Van Introduced Between Hyderabad-Shalimar (Kolkata) for Transport of Perishables including Eggs

In a review meeting held to analyze freight traffic trends o­n the Zone, Shri Ravindra Gupta, General Manager, South Central Railway advised the commercial wing to formulate strategies so as to encourage the agriculture / poultry trade to utilize railways for transport of perishable commodities including poultry products such as eggs.

Acting on the same, South Central Railway has introduced the facility of Train Service Parcel Van (VPU) between Hyderabad and Shalimar (Kolkata) commencing from today i.e., 11th February, 2016. The facility is sure to give a big fillip to the transport of perishable commodities including Eggs from the region towards consumer destinations. The VPU service will hold a capacity for transport of 23 Tonnes of commodity. 

The service will be run by Train Nos. 18646 / 18645 Hyderabad-Howrah-Hyderabad East Coast Express and will be operated to and from Shalimar at Howrah end.

The introduction of the new VPU service is meant to cater to the demand for perishable traffic from Hyderabad, Secunderabad and Vijayawada towards Kolkata, which has been encouraging. The perishable commodities loaded from these destinations include agriculture produce, fish and eggs etc., Therefore, the VPU service will immensely serve the business interest of the poultry / farming community in the region in particular.
