EASTERN RAILWAY TO ESCORT MORE TRAINS WITH LADY CONSTABLES

·Special RPSF Constables deployedfor security in Suburban Night Trains

Shri R. K. Gupta, General Manager, Eastern Railway addressed the media at Eastern Railway’s Headquarters at Fairlie Place today (9.11.2015) o­n the development, progress & achievement made by Eastern Railway during the year in particular and Indian Railways in general.

Shri Gupta informed that Eastern Railway has carried 674.331 millions of passengers upto October 2015 in comparison to 679.196 during the period 2014-15. In freight loading also Eastern Railway has carried 32.617 Million Tonnes upto October 2015 in comparison to 36.483 million tonnes during the period 2014-15.

Shri Gupta emphasized o­n the Eastern Railway’s punctuality which stands at 92.54% which is 3.26% higher than the corresponding period of last year. This year Eastern Railway has surpassed the Railway Board’s target of 90% and achieved 92.54% in running of Mail/Express trains.

So far as the safety is concerned, Eastern Railway had o­nly o­ne consequential accident and the safety record of Eastern Railway is satisfactory during the year.

In security front, 160 Mail/Express trains were escorted while 118 suburban trains were also escorted by the RPF staff. However, 68 trains has yet to be provided with lady constables which will be provided by the end of December. All the late night trains have been provided with RPF & RPSF lady constables escort party. He praised the activities of the security for giving more safety by controlling drug menace, unearthing fake appointments racket, fake tickets and booked 61096 offenders for various offences from the Railway premises. RPF also rescued 344 children since January and handed over them to their parents or at child welfare centers.

Shri Gupta informed that this year Eastern Railway has provided 218 special trains during Chhat Puja, Durga Puja and Summer vacations. Last year, 194 trains were provided. Uptill October this year, Eastern Railway has augmented 1939 coaches o­n temporary basis and 53 coaches o­n permanent basis.Frequency of 2 passenger trains increased and 8 passenger & 9 EMU trains are extended its run and 2 passenger trains and ENU trains have been introduced in the new Timetable. Due to the acceleration of a few trains, the arrival time has been reduced.

He informed that Rs.78.84 lakhs has been received from the Hon’ble MPs under MPLAD Scheme for various passenger amenities work at stations.

3 Nos. of Mechanized laundries were commissioned at Tikiapara, Sealdah and Malda. 64 pairs of Mail/Express trains of Eastern Railway base have been covered in o­n Board House Keeping Services (OBHS) to provide cleaning services in coaches during travel. All major and medium coaching depots of Eastern Railway have been covered under mechanical cleaning. Asansol and Malda have been nominated as Clean Train Stations.

418 coaches are fitted with Bio-toilets in place of open discharge toilets to reduce environmental pollution. All coaches of 11 rakes of Eastern Railway have been provided with Bio-toilets. Introduction of the Bio-diesel RCD already implemented in Andal and Beliaghata. Jamalpur, Malda, Howrah and Rampurhat are under process.
