GM/ICF flags off the 1st Rake of Series Production of the New Generation 1600 HP DEMUs

Chennai: The 1st Rake in the Series Production of the New Generation 1600 HP DEMU (Diesel Electric Multiple Unit) with 3-phase AC (Alternate Current) transmission was flagged of by Ashok K. Agarwal, General Manager, today at the Integral Coach Factory, Perambur.

L.C.Trivedi, Chief Mechanical Engineer and other Senior Officials were also present during the occasion. The rake has been dispatched to the Northern Railway.

The 1600 HP DEMUs with IGBT (Insulated Gate Bipolar Transistor) technology is maintenance friendly and has high energy efficiency than the conventional 700 HP DEMUs and 1400 HP DEMUs.

These DEMUs are provided with micro processor based control system and 3-phase motors for powering train. Each rake of these DEMU contains 10 coaches against 8 coaches in the existing DEMUs.

These coaches have more seating capacity and improved interior passenger amenities and will provide better travelling experience for the commuters. Stainless Steel body, GPS based Passenger Information System, aesthetic Interior paneling with concealed screws, wider sliding doors, wider vestibule openings for easy movement of passengers, stainless steel chequered anti-slip flooring, polycarbonate hand holds with nylon straps, improved design cushion seats with stainless steel frames with bottle holder, toilets in the trailer coaches are some of the salient features of these coaches.
