UTS ON MOBILE
The facility for booking unreserved suburban tickets on mobile phones has been introduced on Southern Railway. This application is a pilot project and at stage one, tickets will be issued for journeys commencing on any of the following five stations.
Chennai Beach, Chennai Egmore, Saidapet, Chrompet and Tambaram.
This application can be downloaded on an Android/Windows based Smart phone. Using their mobile number as their identity, the customer can register as a user of this application and thereby can book an unreserved suburban ticket on his phone. Following registration, the passenger is given a zero value or account known as Railway-Wallet (R-Wallet). This R-Wallet can be charged by the user across the counter in any of the above five locations or through the Website www.utsonmobile.indianrail.gov.inon line. However, at present charging and recharging the R-Wallet will only be across counters. The online facility will be activated soon. The R-Wallet can be used only for booking of rail tickets. After booking a ticket, the passenger must go to an ATVM (Automatic Ticket Vending Machine) at the journey originating station and take a print out of the ticket. Passengers cannot travel without this printed ticket.
