Content o­n Demand – Infotainment Service by Central Railway & SugarBox Networks enabled in 10 suburban rakes

Central Railway and M/s Margo Network Pvt. Ltd have joined hands in providing commuters free infotainment service in suburban trains.  As a part of non-fare revenue of Central Railway, M/s Margo Network Pvt. Ltd through its Sugar Box App will provide this facility to the commuters while travelling in suburban train. The futuristic vision to bring alive better customer experience through adoption of new and emerging technologies thus enabling a digital experience for commuters in 10 suburban rakes in first phase was enabled o­n 11.2.2022.

Shri Anil Kumar Lahoti, General Manager, Central Railway had a first hand experience of this content o­n demand and interacted with media persons at CSMT.  While briefing them, he said that Non Fare Revenue of Central Railway for the period April to Jan 2021-22 is 22.57 crore which is 295% more than that of the corresponding period of last year and  is placed first among all zonal railways. The contract for “Content o­n Demand” inside 165 suburban EMU rakes will fetch Rs. 8.17 crore for Railways in five years’ tenure.  Shri Lahoti said that the commuters of Mumbai Division, Central Railway will now be able to avail an infotainment experience through this Content o­n Demand Service. 

For availing this service passengers will have to download Licensee’s Sugar Box App. For accessing the content, no internet will be required. Passengers do not have to pay any charge for the data consumption.

Shri Shalabh Goel, Divisional Railway Manager, Mumbai Division and Team, Ms. Ity Pandey, Chief Commercial Manager (Passenger Service), Central Railway, SugarBox Networks co-founders Rohit Paranjpe, Ripunjay Bararia and Devang Goradia said that this partnership will enhance in-transit consumer experience through technology. Passengers can now enjoy seamless access to Digital services throughout their train journey and get continuous access to information, entertainment, shopping, education & upskilling services, payment platforms and more, even when the cellular network is irregular or unavailable.

The event was held following all COVID protocols.

MOSR announces start of Indore-Guwahati train from June 30

GUWAHATI:  In a major boost to the residents of Indore region, minister of state for railways Manoj Sinha has announced the flag off of the much awaited train between Indore and Guwahati on June 30.
Speaking at a function organised by Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL), Sinha, who is also the minister of state (independent charge) for communications, said, “The Indore-Guwahati train will connect Indore to eastern states of the country.”
The train between Indore and Guwahati will run via Lucknow and Patna enhancing the connectivity with major cities of the eastern states.
The minister said, “There was a long pending demand from the people of the region and several organisations to improve the connectivity of the city with Patna and other eastern cities. During my last visit in the city several sections of the society had put forth this demand and now it will be fulfilled in June.”
Sinha held a meeting with the railways officials from Indore and Ratlam to discuss the status of the new train and various other issues such as internet connectivity on the move.
The service between Indore and Guwahati was delayed due to lack of an extra pit line at the Indore railway station.
Earlier there were only four pit lines at the railway station making it impossible to manage extra train traffic, but with the functioning of the new fifth pit line at Indore station, the railways has given a green signal to the Indore- Guwahati train.
The minister also said that the department will work on to improve the internet connectivity on the move to provide a hassle free journey to passengers.
“I have learnt that the internet connectivity remains poor during the journey. We are working on improving the connectivity and providing an uninterrupted internet facility to all passengers by enhancing 2G and 3G network,” said Sinha.

Overwhelmingly, social media is winning the race to deliver your next news break, news feature or news analysis. Be it the refugee crisis in Europe, US presidential election debates, spats between different political parties in India, the public reaction to the scenario in Indian cricket, games, movies or events, whether crises or celebrations, we find our news now being frequently broken on social media platforms, rather than on traditional media. It wouldn’t  be incorrect to say news has become social.

REVISED TIMINGS FOR BOOKING OF TICKETS THROUGH INTERNET

Kolkata, September 18, 2015:

The timings of the availability of booking facility through internet will be changed from 20 September, 2015.

The facility of booking of reserved tickets through internet will be available from 00:30 hrs. to 23:45 hrs. daily with effect from 20.9.2015.

The current booking counters at train originating stations will also function from 00:30 hrs. to 23:45 hrs.

In the past 65 years, cable has emerged from a fledgling novelty for a handful of households to the nation’s preeminent provider of digital television, movies and state-of-the-art broadband Internet service available to millions of Indians

Today, thanks to broadband cable and other breakthroughs, the technological landscape is unrecognizable compared with even a few years ago. Consumers now enjoy video content and Internet access from multiple services, multiple service providers and on multiple devices. They can go online anytime, anywhere with more options and opportunities than ever and arrival of the new millennium brought with it hopes and plans for acceleration of advanced services over cable’s broadband networks.  As the new millennium got under way, cable companies began pilot testing video services that could change the way people watch television. Among these: video on demand, subscription video on demand, and interactive TV. The industry was proceeding cautiously in these arenas, because the cost of upgrading customer-premise equipment for compatibility with these services was substantial and required new business models that were both expansive and expensive.

Indian Railways is all set to become your neighbourhood cable, video and broadband service provider. RailTel Corporation of India Ltd – the Telecom PSU arm of Indian Railways would soon take the project nationwide, which till now was tested in different states successfully.

RailTel, a wholly-owned subsidiary of the Railways, in 2013 began its project on a pilot basis to provide broadband and content to households particularly in remote areas in association with cable operators and other access network providers, by utilizing their last mile.

The project, now called RailWire, has not moved much since, being restricted to just about 30,000 households in southern states like Kerala, Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh.

“We are now looking at going to other regions and looking for partners who will provide the last-mile connectivity,” RailTel Chairman and Managing Director R K Bahuguna said.

RailTel would be eyeing mostly the non-metro areas where reaching out to households is not exactly a profitable proposition for many of the MSOs (Multi-System Operators), he said. RailTel was formed in 2000 to commercially exploit the Optical Fibre Network laid along railway tracks, which then covered 47000 route kilometres.

“As of now we have laid OFC network of 47,000 km and within a year’s time we would reach 50,000-km mark,” Bahuguna said. Leveraging this network, RailTel provides services like connectivity to government departments and undertakings. It connects some remote mines of Coal India, provides networks like National Knowledge Network connecting IITs, IIMs. Banks and other research establishments, offers services to telecom operators as well in the short haul and long haul distances, and also provides services like telecom tower collocations.

RailTel’s revenue in the last fiscal was Rs 550 crore, and around 10% of it came from parent Indian Railways. Most of RailTel’s services till now are on an enterprise level. Its household broadband service would give it a retail face. But challenges lie ahead as the market is highly competitive, which makes entry into metros restrictive as such markets are already being catered to by the Multi-System Operators or MSOs.

In cities, RailTel plans to provide high-speed 10 mbps broadband services with the help of the MSOs who have the access network, he said.

These apart, RailTel is also banking on its recently launched HD video-conferencing service, called Telepresence in partnership with Cisco, offering corporates and government bodies to hold virtual meetings on a rental basis without having to invest in hardware or connections.

Train No. 02045 Premium Weekly AC Special will leave Lokmanya Tilak Terminus at 01.10 hrs o­n Thursday 28.8.2014, 4.9.2014 and 11.9.2014 (3 trips) and arrive Karmali at 11.30 hrs same day.

Train No. 02046 Premium Weekly AC Special will leave Karmali at 11.55 hrs o­n Thursday 28.8.2014, 4.9.2014 and 11.9.2014 (3 trips) and arrive Lokmanya Tilak Terminus at 22.15 hrs same day.
