Time-tabled Freight Train ‘Auto Express’ flagged off from Gurgaon

Time-tabled Freight Train ‘Auto Express’ flagged off from Gurgaon

Time-tabled Freight Train for Auto Sectors

Gurgaon: After launching a time-tabled container freight train, the Ministry of Railways launched a time-tabled freight train for the auto sector on Delhi-Bengaluru route.

Targeting 25 per cent rail share in automobile traffic, railways launched time-tabled Auto Express from Gurgaon to Nidvanda to ensure faster delivery of cargo on 12th July, 2016.

The domestic auto sector is one of the largest in the world with annual production of about 24 million vehicles. During year 2015-16, IR has loaded 708 rakes carrying 2,35,907 units of four-wheeler / three-wheeler / two-wheeler.

IR’s present rail share in the automobile transportation is only about 3 per cent. Railways has also opened up good-sheds for container train operators, subject to certain conditions.

“Like our ever-growing population, auto population is also increasing on a faster rate. In fact auto sector is a fastest growing economy. If railways can tap it then it will be major source of revenue,” Railway Minister Suresh Prabhu said after launching the first time-tabled auto car freight train service between Gurgaon and Nidvanda (Bangalore) from here through video-conferencing.

He said that with today’s flag off that too with time-table run of auto-car freight train would ensure timely delivery of the automobiles which would increase confidence of auto industry on railway’s credibility.

At present about 2000 cars move per month between Gurgaon and Nidavanda. With launch of the time tabled run of the freight train for automobile traffic, the volume will go up and the number of trips are likely to increase resulting transportation of about 6000 cars a month.

Railway Board Member (Traffic) Mohd Jamshed said railways has earlier launched time-tabled Cargo Express and now Auto Express to ensure faster movement of traffic.

“These special trains have wagons to run 100 km per hour. So the travel duration has decreased from 70 hours to 57 hours.”

Jamshed further said auto cargo is time sensitive and hence time-tabled running is important to ensure quality service.

New Gurgaon and Old Gurgaon Metro Feasibility Studied by DMRC

New Gurgaon and Old Gurgaon Metro Feasibility Studied by DMRC

Gurgaon Metro | DMRC to study feasibilty of linking old and new Gurgaon

Gurgaon: The movement to extend the Metro rail network to old Gurgaon has got a fresh impetus, with the Haryana government roping in Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) to conduct a feasibility study for the proposed route.

Additional chief secretary of town and country planning department, P Raghvendra Rao, told TOI on Wednesday that the state government has written to DMRC for conducting the feasibility study and it will start the work at the earliest.

“We have decided to take the help of DMRC for the proposed Metro route, which will connect old Gurgaon with new Gurgaon,” he said.

“On the basis of the feasibility report, we will take a call on the extension of the Metro network to the old city. We will also decided whether to engage some other agency for execution of the proposal or continue with DMRC, after getting the report,” he added.

Earlier the state government had invited quotations for conducting a feasibility study, following which three companies – DIMTS, UMTC and RITES – had come forward. DMRC had not submitted any quotation on the ground that they do not want to compete with other consultancy organisation for taking up the work.

According to a response to an RTI query, filed by activist Aseem Takyar, DMRC has expressed its desire to work only on mutually agreed terms and condition.

Rapid Metro Gurgaon receives its First Train of South Extension

Rapid Metro Gurgaon receives its First Train of South Extension

Gurgaon (GGN): Rapid Metro Gurgaon today announced the arrival of its first train of South Extension in Gurgaon. The trains are from Siemens and will be similar to trains of Phase- 1. Welcoming the first train, Mr.Rajiv Banga, Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer, IL&FS Rail Ltd said, “The work on South Extension is in full swing and we are hoping that we will start our operations as targeted. The arrival of first train reflects our commitment to serve people in Gurgaon.” The start of South Extension will increase the reach of Rapid Metro and further make inroads into Gurgaon offering a safe and convenient option to commute. Due to increase in pollution levels and traffic congestion, it is time for people to switch to a sustainable mode of transport. Rapid Metro Rail Gurgaon Ltd., an initiative by IL&FS Rail, is the first fully privately funded metro project.

About Rapid Metro

Rapid Metro Gurgaon is the initiative of IL&FS Rail, is developing country’s 1st fully privately funded Metro Rail system. The driving force behind Rapid Metro is IL&FS Rail which is a subsidiary of Infrastructure Leasing & Financial Services Limited (IL&FS), India’s leading infrastructure development and finance company. The Rapid Metro is being constructed at a cost of Rs. 1,088 crore.

About IL&FS

IL&FS Rail is part of Infrastructure Leasing & Financial Services Limited (IL&FS) group, India’s leading infrastructure development and finance company. Pioneer in ‘Public Private Partnership’ model IL&FS has significant experience and expertise in the area of Project Development, Project structuring, Project Monitoring and construction, administration and operations. IL&FS has developed an array of innovative solutions on the public private partnership platform to develop commercially viable models for infrastructure projects.

About Siemens

Having built the metro line in the Gurgaon Cyber City business district with a connection to the Delhi Metro, Siemens has also constructed approximately seven-kilometer extension to the south as a turnkey rail system. A corresponding order with a volume worth about 70 million Euros has been placed with Siemens by the local concessionary IL&FS Rail Limited (Infrastructure Leasing and Financial Services). The scope of delivery includes the rolling stock, the entire electrification and the signaling system. In addition, Siemens is responsible for the complete system integration. The line extension is due to be commissioned as early as the end of 2015.

For the new section of the Gurgaon line, Siemens is delivering seven aluminum-bodied metro trains. The trains are to run on standard-gauge track at a top speed of about 80 km/h. The modern signaling and train control system will make sure that the required service interval of 120 seconds is achieved during rush-hour traffic. This short headway will enable the metro trains to transport more than 30,000 passengers per hour.

Safe and reliable operation will be achieved by using the Sicas ECC type electronic interlocking, the LZB 700 M automatic train control system with ATP (Automatic Train Protection) and ATO (Automatic Train Operations), as well as the Vicos OC 501 ATS (Automatic Train Supervision) system. To fully electrify the new line extension, Siemens will install a 750 V DC traction power supply along with a third-rail system for current collection. Power will be supplied to the extension and the rest of existing line from the 66 kV grid. A medium-voltage ring will supply four substations, six metro stations and the depot with 11 kV AC.

Megacities like Delhi are marked by rapidly rising populations. New districts are emerging and growing into autonomous cities – such as Gurgaon, which already has a population of more than 500,000. In order to connect this area to the center of Delhi, Siemens was given the order in 2010 to build a metro line linking the residential and business district of Gurgaon with the capital’s metro system. Passenger service on the line is to commence at the end of May 2013, thereby substantially boosting the transport capacity of the urban rapid transit system.

The section now contracted to Siemens is to run further to the south and will extend the existing metro line by around seven kilometers and six stations. As of the end of 2015, twelve automatic Siemens trains will be operating on the completed 13-kilometer-long line and serving twelve stations.

Siemens succeeded in entering the Indian mass transit sector in 2004, when the company completely equipped Line 3 of the Delhi Metro with signaling and rail communication systems. All extensions of Line 3 to an overall length of 60 track kilometers were also equipped with control and signaling systems by Siemens. These were followed up in October 2008 by the order to supply the signaling, electrification and baggage logistics for the 23-kilometer-long Delhi Airport Rail Link. For the first time in India the Siemens scope of supply and services for the new metro link to Gurgaon Cyber City included not only subsystems, but also responsibility for the key components and their integration as well as interfacing for the construction of a turnkey system.

Rapid Metro Phase-II expected to be completed by March 2016

Rapid Metro Phase-II expected to be completed by March 2016

Gurgaon (GGN): The construction for the Rapid Metro Phase-II is expected to be over by March next year.

The Phase-II will add seven kilometres of double track stretching south of Sikanderpur station along Golf Course Road, with six new stations.

It was disclosed by Rapid Metro Chief Executive Officer and Managing Director, Rajiv Banga, speaking to the media persons at the launch of the ‘road rage’ campaign to promote responsible driving and road safety. “The construction for Phase-II is on schedule. We expect it to be over by March next year. We are also in the process of procuring rolling stock for the Phase-II line. It is expected to reach Gurgaon by this month end,” said Mr. Banga.

Mr. Banga said that the ridership of the Rapid Metro had gone up by 25 per cent over the past four-five months and saw another increase of 25 per cent on August 7 and August 10 due to traffic snarls on the Delhi-Gurgaon Expressway. Disclosing the plans to further increase the ridership, Mr. Banga said an approval was being sought for the construction of a foot overbridge connecting Udyog Vihar Phase-IV to IndusInd Bank Cyber City metro station. “We expect to get the necessary approvals in a month’s time. After approvals, it may take another 5-6 months for the construction. So we expect the proposed foot over-bridge to be ready by March-April next year. It will have escalators on both sides and cater to 50,000-60,000 working population in Udyog Vihar. We expect it to add to the ridership of the Rapid Metro,” said Mr. Banga.

In a reply to a question on plans for Phase-III of the Rapid Metro, Mr. Banga said that they were waiting for Haryana Government to finalise the alignment for metro connectivity between Dwarka and Gurgaon. Replying to a question on frequent jams on Delhi-Gurgaon Expressway, Gurgaon Police Commissioner Navdeep Virk, who was present on the occasion, said that the infrastructure was not adequate to handle the rush.
