CHANGE IN THE ROUTE AND TIMINGS OF NAGERCOIL – CHENNAI PARCEL SERVICE
In the Daily Parcel services announced by Southern Railway upto 3rdMay 2020 between Chennai and Nagercoil with a composition of o­ne High Capacity Parcel Van and 1 Luggage cum Brake Van,, the route and timings ofthe Nagercoil – Chennai service portion alone is changed as under with effect from 22nd April 2020 :-
With Additional stoppages of Thanjavur, Kumbakonam, Mayiladuthurai and Cuddalore Port, The revised timings and stoppages of Train No.00658 Nagercoil – Chennai Egmore Daily Parcel Cargo Express Special Train are : -
Nagercoil (Dep 06.00 hrs) Tirunelvei (Dep 07.30 hrs)Virudhunagar (Dep 10.00 hrs) Madurai (Dep 11.00 hrs) Dindigul (Dep 12.10 hrs) Tiruchchirappalli (Dep 14.00 hrs) Thanjavur (Dep 14.55 hrs) Kumbakonam (Dep 15.55 hrs) Mayiladuthurai (Dep 16.40 hrs) Cuddalore Port (Dep 18.20 hrs) Villupuram (Dep 19.30 hrs) and reaching Chennai Egmore at 22.30 hrs the same day.
There is no change in the stoppages and timings of Train No.00657 Chennai Egmore – Nagercoil Daily Parcel Cargo Express Special which will continue to leave at 05.00 hrs daily from Chennai Egmore to reach Nagercoil at 19.00 hrs the same day with stoppings at Villuppuram ( Dep 08.00 hrs)Vridhachalam (Dep 09.00 hrs) Ariyalur (Dep 09.55 hrs)Tiruchchirappalli ( Dep 11.00 hrs) Dindigul ( Dep 12.40 hrs)Madurai (Dep 13.50 hrs)Virudhunagar ( Dep 14.50 hrs) and Tirunelveli ( Dep 17.40 hrs)

Bombay High Court seeks survey to decode overcrowding in local trains. Ask Railways to Try bogies without seats in local trains

Consider having an all-standee bogie in local trains: Bombay High Court to railways

Mumbai: The railways should keep experimenting with crowd management techniques to ensure a smooth ride for suburban railway passengers, the Bombay High Court said on Wednesday.

A division bench of justices Naresh Patil and SB Shukhre said, “Consider having an all-standee bogie in suburban trains to better manage crowds. At least, do it as a pilot project to check the results.”

The bench was hearing a public interest litigation after the court had taken suo moto cognisance of a letter written by a senior citizen, AB Thakkar, in 2009. Thakkar had said entering a jam-packed train during peak hours was a nightmarish experience for the elderly.

The bench also suggested to the railways to consider having double-decker suburban trains. Moreover, the state government has been told to consider appointing a private agency to carry out a survey to analyse the movement of passengers during peak and non-peak hours to come up with ways to better management.

The railways informed the court that around 38,000 senior citizens travel daily on suburban trains. The railways has, after court orders, reserved 14 seats in a compartment for the elderly. Justice Patil suggested to the railways to consider having space for senior citizens in ladies special trains.

The bench, however, going back to its original issue of overcrowding, said, “During peak hours, can a senior citizen enter the compartment? If not, then how can s/he even be able to reach to his/her seat?”

The court has given the railways time till November 18 to get back to it on the suggestions made.

The Bombay High Court asked the Central and Western Railway authorities to adopt crowd management techniques to ensure a smooth ride for suburban railway passengers, including elderly commuters.

The Bombay High Court asked the Central and Western Railway authorities to adopt crowd management techniques to ensure a smooth ride for suburban railway passengers, including elderly commuters.

“Consider introducing an ‘all standing’ boggie in suburban trains to accommodate the crowd… at least do it on a pilot project to check the results,” a bench of Justice Naresh Patil and Justice S B Shukhre said.

The court had taken suo moto cognisance of a letter written by a senior citizen, A B Thakkar, in 2009 and converted it into a PIL.

Thakkar contended that entering a jam-packed train during peak hours was a nightmarish experience for the elderly.

The bench also suggested the railways consider having double decker suburban trains to help crowd management during peak hours.

The Judges further asked the state government to consider appointing a private agency to carry out a survey to analyse the movement of passengers during peak and non-peak hours to come up with ways to improve crowd management.
