In this lockdown period in wake of COVID-19,Western Railway is o­n the move and has successfully fulfilling the responsibility of transporting ‘Essential Supplies’ to various parts across the country. In this hour of need, essential commodities such as Medical Equipment, Medicines, Food Items, Amul Products, Milk, Face Masks, Sanitizers etc. are promptly transported through WR's time tabled COVID-19 Special Parcel Trains. In continuation to this, o­ne more parcel special train is scheduled by Western Rly to run between Dewas and New Delhi.
According to a press release issued by Shri Ravinder Bhakar - Chief Public Relations Officer of Western Railway, one more parcel special train with 2 trips will be running between Dewas and New Delhi. Train No 00931 Dewas – New Delhi parcel special train will depart from Dewas o­n 20th May, 2020 at 20.00 hrs and reach New Delhi at 17.00 hrs the next day. Similarly, Train No 00932 New Delhi - Dewas parcel special train will leave New Delhi o­n 22ndMay, 2020 at 08.00 hrs to reach Dewas at 21.30 hrs o­n the same day. The train will halt at Nagda, Sawai Madhopur and Jaipur in both directions.
Shri Bhakar stated that, since 23rd March to 18th May 2020, commodities weighing approx 35500 tonnes have been transported by Western Rly through its 233 parcel special trains, which included agricultural produce, medicines, fish, milk etc. The earnings generated through this transportation, has been approx Rs 10.57 crore.Under this transportation, twenty nine milk special trains were run by Western Rly, with a load of more than 21,000 tonnes and 100% utilization of the wagons, generating revenue of more thanRs 3.65 crore. Similarly, 200 Covid-19 special parcel trains were also run to transport essential commodities, for which the revenue earned was approx Rs 6.14 crore. In addition to this, 4 indented rakes were also run with 100% utilization for earnings of approximately Rs. 78 lakh. Shri Bhakar stated that in addition to the parcel special trains, from 22nd March to 18th May, 2020, total 4089 rakes of goods trains also have been used to supply essential commodities amounting to 8.08 million tonnes. 8160 freight trains were interchanged with other railways, including 4123 trains handed over and 4037 trains taken over at different interchange points. 235 Millennium Parcel rakes of Parcel Vans / Railway Milk Tankers (RMTs) have been sent to different parts of the country to cope with the demands of essential materials such as milk powder, liquid milk, medical supplies and other general consumer goods.
Shri Bhakar informed that eight parcel special trains, including a milk rake left from WR for various parts of the country o­n 19th May, 2020, viz. Okha – Guwahati,Dadar – Bhuj,Bandra Terminus – Okha, Okha – Bandra Terminus, Rajkot – Coimbatore, Mumbai Central – Firozpur and Palanpur - Salchapra special trains. o­ne milk rake also ran from Palanpur to Hind Terminal. He stated that the total loss of earnings over Western Railway inclusive of suburban & non - suburban sections, since March, 2020, has been Rs 926.45 crore o­n account of lockdown. Inspite of this, resulting to the cancellation of tickets till now, Western Railway has ensured to return refund amount ofRs 276.89 crore. It's worth mentioning that in this refund amount, Mumbai division alone, has ensured refund of Rs 133.15 crore. Till now, 42.09 lakh passengers have cancelled their tickets over entire Western Railway & have received their refund amount accordingly.
