Shri D.K. Sharma, General Manager, Central Railway gave away Swachhta Hi Sewa Pakhwada - cleanliness awards in 11 categories (Zonal level) on the occasion of 150th birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhiji on 2.10.2018 at Railway Auditorium, Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus Mumbai.
Shri Sharma presented certificate and cash award to Kurla Car Shed which won the first prize for best maintained EMU card shed followed by Kalwa card shed and best maintained control office won by Mumbai followed by Nagpur. Mumbai-Gondia Vidarbha Express won the best maintained express train followed by Mumbai-Amravati Express.Other category awards are as under:
 Best maintained workshop – first Matunga workshop, second Track Machine Workshop, Nasik
Best maintained diesel/electric shed – first Ajni Electric Loco Shed, second Diesel Loco Shed, Kalyan
Best maintained coaching depot – first Pune, second Solapur
Best maintained divisional hospital – first Bhusaval, second Nagpur
Best maintained headquarters office – first Office of Principal Chief Operations Manager, second Principal Chief Mechanical Engineer
Best maintained Stores Depot – first Vidyavihar, second Matunga
Best maintained TTE rest room – first Nagpur, second Bhusaval

Earlier, Shri D.K. Sharma, General Manager, Central Railway commissioned the digital wall at suburban concourse, Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus Mumbai in presence of Shri A.K. Agarwal, Principal Chief Mechanical Engineer, Shri D.K. Singh, Principal Chief Operations Manager, Shri Shailendra Kumar, Principal Chief Commercial Manager, Dr. Shyam Sunder, Principal Chief Medical Director, Shri S.K. Pankaj, Senior Deputy General ManagerSmt Reena Ranjan, Principal Financial Adviserand other Principal Heads of Departments, Shri S.K. Jain, Divisional Railway Manager, Mumbai and commuters.Similar digital walls were commissioned at Thane, Lonavala, Pune, Daund, Sewagram and Wardha.
Shri Sunil Udasi, Chief Public Relations Officer, Central Railway said that Central Railway School, Kalyan and Kalva Car Shed employees had jointly painted an EMU rake with national tricolour and Mahatma Gandhi theme which is a unique initiative on Indian Railways.This local is presently running on Thane-Vashi/Panvel transharbour line section, and is the main attraction of commuters and others spreading message of Swachhta.
In addition, three diesel locomotives and one electric locomotive was painted with Gandhiji’s theme are hauling Mumbai-Hyderabad Express, Mumbai-Chennai Central Express, Dadar-Ratnagiri Passenger and Mumbai-Pune Deccan Queen on 2.10.2018. This initiative was also appreciated by one and all.
An outstanding cultural programme was presented by Kids of Railway officers’’ Club, Mazgaon and Central Railway Cultural Academy at the function followed by Mahatma Gandhi’s live painting session synchronised with instrumental song, santoor and nukkad natak.
Central Railway observed Swachhata Hi Sewa Pakhwada from 15.9.2018 to 2.10.2018 involving Station Managers and Station Directors along with Railway Colony Staff, NGOs, Charitable Institutions, Passengers and Public at large with their voluntary physical contribution towards cleanliness drive at headquarters Mumbai, Pune, Bhusaval, Nagpur and Solapur divisions.
