Indian Railways Institute of Signal Engineering and Telecommunication (IRISET), the premier training institute o­n Indian Railways celebrated its 59th Annual Day today i.e. 27th November 2016 at its premises at Tarnaka, Secunderabad. Shri Akhil Agrawal, Director General (Signal & Telecom), Railway Board, New Delhi was the Chief Guest. Shri Ravindra Gupta, General Manager, South Central Railway presided over the function. Shri N. Kashinath, Additional Member, (Signal), Railway Board, Shri M.S.Mahaboob Ali, Director, IRISET & Chief Signal & Telecommunication Engineer, South Central Railway and other officials participated.
Speaking on the occasion, Shri Akhil Agrawal stated that IRISET is a Pioneering Institute o­n Indian Railways which imparts training to Signal & Telecommunication Officers and Supervisors with excellent teaching modules. He appreciated the role of Signal & Telecom department in running the high volumes of traffic with safety and punctuality. He advised them to imbibe new technologies and systems to further the growing demands of Traffic o­n Indian Railways.
Shri Ravindra Gupta, General Manager while addressing the gathering opined that IRISET is o­ne of the best Institutes with very good facilities. He said that with the emerging scenario in traffic patterns the emphasis o­n safety has reached optimum and role of Signal & Telecom department has become crucial.  IRISET plays a vital role in designing, imparting training, operating and trouble shooting in the maintenance of S&T assets. IRISET has been always alive in changing needs of its technical cadre. IRISET has been upgrading the teaching content and introducing new courses as per the requirement of the systems o­n Indian Railways.
Shri M.S.Mahaboob Ali, Director, IRISET in his annual report said that IRISET organized 121 courses were conducted and trained 2923 persons during the current calendar year up to October, 2016. 19 Refresher training courses have been conducted in which 912 trainees have attended. Seven special courses o­n safety have been conducted in which 106 trainees participated. Further, IRISET also took initiative by developing E-learning modules for interactive learning o­n “Anywhere Anytime” basis, which is uploaded o­n IRISET Website. The Institute has extended its class room virtually to all Zonal Training Centres which are spread over length and breadth of the country through video conferencing and E-learning.
Shri N.Kashinath, Additional Member, (Signal), Railway Board also spoke o­n the occasion. Later, merit awards were given away to the trainees by the dignitaries present and the in-house newsletter ‘Gyandeep’ Technical Magazine was released. This was followed by cultural programmes performed by the trainees.
Earlier, Shri Akhil Agrawal, Director General (S&T) inaugurated a Gymnasium and Solid State Block proving Axle Counter (Digital)-Block Signalling Lab at IRISET premises.
