NOW AVAIL OPTIONS FOR CATERING IN 2 RAJDHANI & 2 SHATABDI EXPRESS TRAINS
In the pursuit to fulfill the budgetary promises, Indian Railway has decided to introduce the provision of optional catering in select trains on a pilot basis.
Hon'ble MR, Shri Suresh P. Prabhu in his budget speech had announced to explore the possibility of providing optional catering service in place of mandatory catering service to the passengers in trains and to make available local cuisine of choice to passengers.
Accordingly, two Rajdhani Express and two Shatabdi Express trains has been nominated to conduct a trial to this effect for a period of 45 days from 15th June, 2016. Trial will be conducted on Train No.12953/54 Mumbai Central – Nizamuddin August Kranti Rajdhani Express, 12310/09 New Delhi – Rajendra Nagar Terminal Rajdhani Express, 12025/26 Pune – Secunderabad Shatabdi Express and 12277/78 Howrah – Puri Shatabdi Express trains.
During the trial period catering services will be included by default, however, the passengers have to specifically 'opt out' from the mandatory food option. Accordingly, the catering apportionment charges will be excluded from the total ticket fare. However, passengers will not be allowed to change their options, once the option has been exercised. This facility is available in all tickets such as tickets from PRS counters, e-ticketing portals of IRCTC and such tickets shall be issued with reduced fare. Railways will also ensure provision of E-catering facilities at enroute stations, as per the extant policy, so that local cuisine of choice is made available to the passengers of these trains.
