Kolkata Metro Puja gift: Wi-Fi & app to track trains
KOLKATA: Metro rolled out free Wi-Fi at Park Street and Maidan stations on Tuesday and promised to extend it along the length of the network very soon.
Along with Puja gift came the announcement that Metro will run a record 738 services during the festive days, starting at 1.40pm on October 20, 21 and 22 and continuing till 4 am on October 22. On October 23, services end at 11pm. Metro has also launched an app through which passengers can track trains and stay updated about special services.
"We'll run 200 services each on Saptami, Ashtami and Navami, and 138 on Dashami. Special security arrangements have been made," said Metro Railway general manager A K Kapoor, adding that an additional lift is being installed at Dum Dum and centralized AC plants have come up at Kalighat and Rabindra Sarovar.
Kapoor said that more counters will be manned during the Pujas to sell paper tickets to pandal hoppers. No tokens will be issued during the Pujas to prevent confusion among first time users. Metro has received proposals from two cellular firms to introduce seamless service along the route. They will use the Metro's co-axial leaky cable in the tunnels.
