Railway Board chief seeks enhanced passenger safety, security

Calling for special emphasis on safety and security of the passengers with focus on passenger amenities, Railway Board chairman A.K. Mital on Friday instructed carrying on more field inspections for the purpose.

Mital, who held a high-level meeting with various officials of the South Eastern Railway (SER) at its headquarters here to review and evaluate its performance, stressed on adherence to safety norms by all railwaymen in the field and instructed that more field inspections by officers should be carried out specially during night time.

He also stressed on the speedy completion of various pending SER projects.

Discussions relating to other aspects like safety, punctuality, freight loading, earnings, critical capacity enhancement projects, mobility, asset failures were also held.

SER general manager Radhey Shyam claimed punctuality of trains has improved in the first three months of the current fiscal as compared to the corresponding period of last year.
