Metro should be useful for visitors too: Rao on Hyderabad Metro

Hyderabad: The metro rail in Hyderabad should be useful not just for the residents but also those visiting the city and the rail and air passengers, Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao said here today.

Rao, who reviewed the ongoing metro rail work, said the metro rail should be available to people travelling by major railway and bus stations, a release from his office said.

Rao felt that those who designed the metro rail project earlier ignored the international airport. The metro rail should connect the airport with Falaknuma and Rayadurgam localities, he said.

He noted that the metro work, which began in March 2012, is going on as expected and is scheduled to be completed by April 2017.

He had agreed to provide electricity to metro rail project at subsidised rates, the release said.

The state government has allocated Rs 2,000 crore for the project.

Rao directed the metro rail project officials to take the help of state police and prepare the security strategy in consultation with the police officials. He suggested implementing the security system adopted by Delhi metro rail authorities, the release added.
