Mandya likely to get MEMU train service

Mandya likely to get MEMU train service

We are contemplating extending the proposed MEMU (mainline electric multiple unit) train services up to Maddur or Mandya, said Railway Minister D.V. Sadananda Gowda.

Speaking to press persons at Maddur on Sunday, he said the Railway Department was keen on extending the services of the proposed electric trains to the Bangalore-Ramanagaram route.

As announced in the Railway Budget, the department will run three pairs of electric trains (MEMU) on the 40-km Bangalore-Ramanagaram route six days a week (except Sundays) for the convenience of suburban commuters, he said.

Mr. Gowda, however, clarified that the proposed extension plans would be a reality only after the completion of the ongoing track doubling works between Mysore and Bangalore.

Electrification work on the track from Bangalore to Channapatna had been completed, he added.
